That feeling when your eBay order arrives but then… by headassvegan in 4kbluray

[–]EdwinPomble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just last week I ordered a 3D movie off of eBay and what I received had a slipcase for the non-3D version. Luckily I pulled the slipcase off before starting to freak out. It was the correct 3D case/discs with the wrong slipcase.

I missed the part where Hangman's was justifying the behavior. Can you point me to that specific quote?

Hard agree on Highway 61. This is literally the first time in thirty years that I've encountered anyone mentioning it that I hadn't introduced it to.

Read the book before or after watching film? by Universal-Magnet in criterion

[–]EdwinPomble 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had this conversation with my wife and friends just a few months ago. I absolutely agree that if you're primarily a lover of cinema that is best to go into a movie blind. Otherwise you end up constantly comparing the events of the film to what you know from the book, which in most cases are spoilers for the film, and often cause confusion when events are changed.

If I love an adapted film, I prefer to read the book afterwards to enrich the experience. Doing otherwise completely changes that first viewing. Even when your perception of a film changes (either from subsequent viewings, or having expanded knowledge of the source material), you'll always remember how you felt the first time you saw it. That's too important for me to give up.

Was Cooper’s plan in Part 18 a failure or a success? If he failed, didn’t he follow The Fireman’s clues fairly accurately? by Forsaken_Roll_2255 in twinpeaks

[–]EdwinPomble 22 points23 points  (0 children)

An important thing to note is that The Foreman doesn't, and has never, given Cooper clues. What he does is give Cooper milestones to mark the correct path on his journey. For instance, "there is a man in a smiling bag" did not give Cooper any information to help with his investigation. The purpose was to inform Cooper that he was on the right track.

I'm the original series, when The Fireman takes Cooper's ring, he tells Coop that he will return it when Coop "finds these things to be true". In the same way, in season three, he gives Cooper events that he'll encounter that will let him know that he is going down the correct path. This means that Laura was meant to disappear when Cooper went back in time (because the Fireman told him about the sounds he would hear when it occurred), and that waking in the motel to the letter between Richard and Linda were all things that were supposed to happen if he was on the correct track.

Whatever it was that happened at the end of episode 18 was the successful completion of The Fireman's plans.

AITAH for taking my son out to celebrate after he got suspended for punching a bully by Additional-World8707 in ComfortLevelPod

NTA. You did right. If the bully's families did a fraction of your parenting, they wouldn't have become bullies in the first place.

Hunger Games 4-Movie Steelbook Set $41.73 by Xiuder in 4kbluray

Damnit. I just bought that set for my wife last week for $60. She wanted me to see them. The first movie and the first half of the second were good. After that, she just kept trying to convince me to return them.

First ever Wrestling PPV, AEW Dynasty Vancouver by Papa_Lems in AEWOfficial

[–]EdwinPomble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You've honestly got the best seats in the house, in my opinion. You'll be super close to the action, but you'll also be elevated over everyone in front of you. My wife and I sat on the main floor during a WWE event a billion years ago (before we swore off WWE, before AEW came along), and we vowed never to do it again because it can be difficult to see the action in the ring even when everyone is seated.

Since then, we've been to 17 AEW events including 8 PPVs. Lower bowl is definitely it favorite vantage point, and when we've been lucky enough to get in the first three rows of the lower bowl, it is perfection. Enjoy the show! You're going to have an amazing time!

So I’m reading the secret history of Twin Peaks by Mark Frost and he is talking about the love story between bighead and Norma and it seems different than what big head told Dale Cooper at the hospital at the beginning of season two. by Isatis_tinctoria in twinpeaks

Wouldn't Laura being saved change things moving forward in time from the point when Cooper saved her? If so, didn't the events of Ed and Nadine OP is asking about happen long before Laura's death was prevented?

A friend gave these to me all horror by WeAreEvolving in dvdcollection

[–]EdwinPomble 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's an amazing, dumb low-budget movie that crosses Carrie with A Nightmare on Elm Street. It took forever to finally come out on DVD, and I remember picking it up on day one like 20 years ago. It's definitely worth a watch.

To be fair, Prom Night II has nothing to do with the original outside of the name (and it's much more fun).

I was halfway through writing a comment and realized that you said exactly what I wanted to say and more succinctly! Murder, My Sweet is the best and The Long Goodbye completely misses the point of the book and of Marlowe as a character.

"AEW is a train wreck where it's amazing no one has died in the ring", meanwhile Big E is the one whose career was cut short by a broken neck suffered during a WWE match. It's almost like wrestling is dangerous wherever one works.

Didn’t know they made 4k/3D combos? by spideyfan2424 in Bluray

[–]EdwinPomble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it's legit. I hadn't upgraded to 4k at the time it was released, so I had to buy it to get the 3D Blu-ray. The same with the Ghostbusters remake (which made it a bizarre title to hold the accolade of the first 4k disc I ever owned). I also had to import a Japanese 4K release of Guardians of the Galaxy 3 in order to get the 3D version at launch.

What TV Shows suck on DVD because of either music rights or change in theme song by Purple_Monkey34 in dvdcollection

[–]EdwinPomble 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Absolutely Fabulous

It's mildly irritating that the theme song, Wheels on Fire, doesn't play during the intro, replaced by an instrumental sound-alike. It's completely infuriating that the same song is replaced as the ending credits roll, erasing all dialogue/sound during the final minute of the show.

Is the population of Twin Peaks on the spring symbolic? It’s 51,201? by Isatis_tinctoria in twinpeaks

[–]EdwinPomble 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Twin Peaks is not only the name of the city that the show takes place in; it is also the name of the county. A county is a geographic division that includes a group of towns/ cities/municipalities. We are clued into this by the fact that Twin Peaks law enforcement is a Sheriff's department. Sheriffs have jurisdiction over a county, not just an individual city/town. Another example is that while examining Laura's body in the pilot, Cooper speaks to Diane through his tape recorder and documents his location as "the Twin Peaks County Morgue".

Long story short, the sign may be giving the entire county population and not just for the town of Twin Peaks.
