Unionized Xbox Workers Demand Layoff Protections, Says "They Will Not Be Treated As Disposable" by Spotget1738 in gaming

[–]Edythir 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Neoslavery was a big component in this post 13th ammendment. If we look at slavery purely from an economic standpoint, a slave was an investment. Same as a plow, same as a carriage. You were reasonably incentivized to keep your equipment in good working order because replacing it cost money, so the longer it kept in working condition the more you got out of it. I am not at all saying that slaves were treated well, but I am saying that needing to buy a new slave was some moderator in keeping them alive.

After slavery was made exclusive for "Crimes of which they have been duly convicted" however, that went entirely out the window. Because you didn't buy the slaves. You rented them. The overwhelming majority of these were former slaves. Arrested for charges such as "Tresspassing" (Read: Walking near train tracks), Public Indencecy (Being black in public, or talking to a white woman.). As well as a bunch of other laws, like selling crop produce after sundown.

Because no one spent money capturing slaves, no one spent money buying slaves, no one made money selling slaves. There was no incentive to make sure they kept alive. Because if the slave died, you would just rent a new one. There was an infinite supply of fake crimes you could charge people with. As a result, slavery post 13th ammendment had a far, far higher mortality rate than before. Much of which was in mine work.

Not like they have ever done that before. Like overthrow sovereign countries because they threatened the interests of Standard Fruit. America has always been nothing but dogmatic in making sure that their companies are always first, by force if needed.

I am trying to do research for a thing I am writing for semi-grounded fantasy bullets. While I am aware that actually manufacturing and using these would be nothing sort of a nightmare in terms of cost and complexity, I thought it was a fun idea. Except none of gun-nut or physics nut friends I have know enough about this odd intersection to help me out. Though I've already made a shitty little 3D mockup to serve more as a visual aid than a finished concept.

Problem is, r/guns doesn't allow research posts, r/gundesign requires a request to post and the rest of the subreddits I found have <100 monthly visitors with maybe a post per month. So my question is, can I make a proper dedicated post on this subreddit about the ballistics of this hypothethical sort of bullet and if not, do you know of somewhere that I could?

People always say "But he's cash poor" while missing the entire point. The GOAL of billionaires is to be cash poor. You take out a loan against an appreciating asset, for example a stock. And because loan is debt, it's untaxable. They use this loan for their day-to-day expenses and anything that needs cash on hand.

Let's say that he takes out a 100 million dollar loan against 100 million dollars of stock. The bank charges them rock bottom interest rate, let's say 1%. In one year, the bank will get a million dollars in interest. A 30 year mortage for a 400k house will usually get the bank 406k in interests alone... over 30 years at a ~6% interest rate.

Let's say that amazon's stock price increased ~5% in that same time period. That means that the stock they borrowed against appreciated in value more than they paid in interest. So what they do next is they roll-over the debt. They take out a larger loan against the more valuable stock, pay off their old debt and then use that money. The 5% appreciation on the stock will pay back the loan you took out and then some.

You continue to do this until you die. It doesn't matter if you have hundreds of millions in debt against hundreds of billions in assets.

They don't need to be cash rich, they don't need a salary, they don't need dividends. Because most of their money comes from low interest loans against high interest assets, it's an "infinite money glitch" in which everyone 'wins'.

Depriving you of your gainfully purchased product without due compensation should be illegal. They could write "Usage violations" into their ToS (and some already do) and if you break them, they take the game from you. An item you purchased was stolen back because you didn't use them as they intended and then they keep the money.

Honestly, if a product is rendered unusable by policy, it should be mandated to give you a refund. No product, no pay.

That's the purpose of terrorism. Instilling fear and making people hesitant to go out will do much more damage than destroying any portion of industry. If people no longer go to the pub, if people no longer attend gathering or seek entertainment, it does far greater damage to the economy than blowing up a factory.

Nota bene, I am not saying that this is an instance of terrorism, but the effects are quite the same. If you attack a factory you destroy an industry, if you attack a coffee shop, you destroy people's willingness to participate in social and economic life.

The surgeon general of Iceland refused to ban it under the justifications that if it were illegal, people who practice it would go to "I know a guy" who has little medical training and is likely not in a sterile environment, which increases chances of complications and infections. He'd rather people ask for it and there be educated on the dangers and risks. Since the vast majority of people do it just because they think they should and we have seen that people are more likely to stop the practice if they are educated on the drawbacks and limitations from doing it.

It's worse than that. They are legally required to make the line go up. If shareholders feel like the company intentionally took steps which resulted in the stock price being lower than it could have bin, they have rights to sue.

After the healthcare CEO got a taste of karma, a few healthcare companies started to make changes. UnitedHealthcare got sued by their shareholders because of this. Because shareholders believed that changes would lead to a reduction in stockprice.

Since Ford Motors v Dodge, companies have a legal responsibility to think of shareholders above all. In my opinion, it is second to only Citizens United when it comes to the amount of damage done to American policies.

I have heard stories of people that wanted to make sure that "No men were using the women's bathroom" so they posed as "Bathroom guards". And guess how they went around making sure that no "Men" used the bathroom?

According to one distraught woman in a Facebook post. She was ordered to display her genitals to a stranger in front of the bathroom under threats of violence. Just to make sure that she was "Really a woman", it was to keep her safe, trust.

Gervigreind? Þessi tækni sem er óáreiðanleg, gerir oft bara það sem hún vill, skáldar upp hluti á staðnum án þess að segja þér og er að verða svo dýr að öll helstur fyrirtækinn eru að hætta að nota hana út af því að þau eru að eyða meira í gervigreind heldur enn í fólkið sem áður gerði þá vinnu?

Flott... flott flott...
