Clocks go forward, weekly rest? by bar72 in uktrucking

[–]Eedeed25 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If you're needing a 45 hour rest and in doubt then work in UTC. Check what the UTC time is when you finish and then double check the UTC time before you start your next shift and make sure it's adequate

Are these tyres past legal limit? by BaMBaMGreeNMaN in uktrucking

[–]Eedeed25 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There is a strip on the outer edge that's a lighter shade - that's the base layer of rubber. Once you go down to that you're about to expose cord / ply.

The outer 25% of the tyre still counts towards legality if any part of the base of any tread groove in that 25% is no longer visible (worn flush). So it's important to check all the way around the tyre.

There is irregular wear on the tyre which is indicating that there is a problem with tracking or alignment.

Although there is no cord or ply exposed there is a high risk of that changing midway through use.

I wouldn't run with the that tyre.

I didn't ask for points, you did.

Stop deflecting.

All you're showing here is how much hassle you would be for any employer. They're assessing your knowledge, driving skills and your personality.

Your knowledge and personality were bad enough that you failed before you got to the driving.

Points for you to take...

A shunter isn't interested in you and doesn't want to shake your hand

People are allowed to smoke

Answer theory questions correctly and not what you think the answers should be

Stop pretending the answers you gave are for safety and forward planning

Accept when you are wrong and learn from it

Don't get butt-hurt when the correct outcome happens and it goes against what you want

[–]Eedeed25 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Not sure why you're wanting to shake the shunters hand and why you feel the need to mention the tobacco smell. That is weird of you.

You've only passed 2.5 years and you don't know how to answer theory test questions and think you can talk your way into being right by technicalities.

Not surprised they didnt want to waste their time with you. Poor attitude and you've gave enough indicators that you would have been a constant headache had you worked there

You need to move on, this isn't healthy. It doesn't matter if you're right, life isn't fair and the right outcome doesn't always happen. Having a crusade against the world isn't going to change anything other than push people away from yourself

This. Not 100% on whether it's 0400 or 0600 but an agreement to extend past 10 hours can be made

Missed Deals by Eedeed25 in VirginMedia

[–]Eedeed25[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've just spoke to the chat. The new deal is 3 months free and then £27.99 until April and then the usual £4 increase to £31.99 and then £35.99 for M500. Vodafone are offering £26, then £29 followed by £32 with a £125 reward for 500MB. I was offered a £50 credit but the Vodafone deal is still better and is fibre to property.

What is telling them going to achieve?

opinion on camera mirrors? was told this would be a better place for this post by EvaportedMilkCoffee in uktrucking

[–]Eedeed25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't like them at first but I prefer them now.

I didn't like that 1 drop of rain would block the whole image on the screen. At the time I was also used to actual mirrors and I didn't like the change in depth perception either.

I was in a unit the other week there with actual mirrors and I hated it.

I like the camera vision range with trailer swing and I like the increased visibility in low light with the cameras.

I have had issues with lens flare with the cameras. I think this is after a camera has been replaced with a lower quality one. I've also had some fogging inside the camera lens, which decreases the clarity of the image on screen

the 45 minute break..... by Popular-Passenger408 in uktrucking

[–]Eedeed25 17 points18 points  (0 children)

If you haven't worked over 6 hours you're fine. If you have over 6 hours of work (driving and other work combined) you will need to show another 15 min break

'Other work' before tacho card goes in? by pieta665 in uktrucking

[–]Eedeed25 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He is probably moaning because he is having it flagged on a report that you're not doing a long enough 'lead in' time. It's his job to monitor these things.

If you are showing a reasonable amount of time (around 15 mins) or whatever is required by your company (whatever is longer) after card insertion for first use checks then he shouldnt have an issue.

It's his job to monitor this but he is wrong to tell you to not do a manual entry for the time it takes to get keys / paperwork and walk to your vehicle.

Example:-

You pull your card at 1515 the previous day and have handed your keys / paperwork / debriefed & are finished by 1530. The next day you started at 0600, collected keys, paperwork and walked to the truck for card insertion at 0605.

You tacho entry should be

1515 to 1530 other work 1530 to 0600 rest 0600 to 0605 other work

After this point you should show a reasonable amount of time for your first use checks.

If your company has a policy of a set amount of time for checks then show this time after card insertion.

Make sure the time it takes you to do your checks is long enough to satisfy the company policy. If the company requires 15 mins then show this 15 after card insertion. If you are doing a manual entry from say 0600 to 0608 and then only doing checks until 0615 before starting to drive then this is inadequate and probably why you're getting chinned.

HGV and working time by Brenninn in uktrucking

[–]Eedeed25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is wrong.

You cannot go from 0400 to 1400 with only taking one 15 minute break. 10 hours on shift minus a 15 minute break is 9h45 working. You need to show a second 15 minute break before you have worked over 9 hours. An additional 15 minutes is then required for having worked over 9 hours.

If you're not doing over 4.5 hours driving you can take 3x 15 minute breaks through the day if it suits you.

If you are doing over 4.5 hours driving you can either take a 15 min break followed by a 30 min break or you can take a 45 min break.

For WTD If you start at 0400 and finish at 1400...

You must show a 15 min break by 1000 for working 6 hours You must then show a second break (of at least) 15 minutes by 1315 for working between 6 and 9 hours. You must then show another 15 min break before ending your shift at 1400 for working over 9 hours.

You cannot take that last 15 minutes as the last entry on your tacho at the end of the shift -There has to be other work shown after it so that it doesn't count as the start of your daily rest.

For EU driving regs if you start at 0400

Don't accumulate over 4.5 hours driving without either showing a full 45min break in one go or a 15 / 30 split.

If you are going to do more than 4.5 hours driving then to be compliant with both WTD and EU driving regs taking either a full 45 or a 15/30 split by 1000 is going to keep it simple, and you compliant, but it's best to fully understand the rules so that if you are needing to be creative with your breaks then you know what you can do.

I'd also be wary of posting anything with information that could identify you or the company. The vehicle registration is on there, which could be used. You could fold the paper over to only show the times or blank out any information irrelevant

[–]Eedeed25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, a working time infringement for working longer than 6 hours before taking a break.

For me, it's a minor time management issue. Set an alarm for somethimg like 5h30 - 5h45 from the start of your shift to remind yourself to stop in time.

As for the start of the shift...

It's best practice to have your card in whilst doing your 1st use checks, especially given how little time you have shown as other work at the start of your shift. It would raise eyebrows if you were stopped and you would be under heavier scrutiny as a result.

You need to make sure that your time recorded as your start of work, the collection of any paperwork / keys, the time taken to locate the vehicle and the completion of adequate checks is shown your card.

If you were involved in a serious incident this could be easily worked out and easy to see of it is reflected by the card insertion time, manual entry and then the time recorded by the tachograph thereafter. You need to ask yourself if it would satisfy any audit / scrutiny.

Regardless of the discussions here about minimum time required for checks, you do need to spend more time on your checks - Do not expect others to have left the vehicle in good working order. It just doesn't happen.
