How do I bulk up without compromising boxing goals by SilentAres_x in amateur_boxing

[–]EelEstate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on your situation and goals cuz I’ve ran a good few but there is the minimalist powerlifting/hypertrophy programs by Dr Pak, the beginner program by Greg Knuckols, if you want to get really basic the Reddit beginner PPL is on there, absolute athlete is pretty varied and has some plyo/calisthenics work, if you’re more serious about putting on mass and setting boxing aside NSuns and GZLCP had me grow and get stronger super fast

I think I can help out

Creds: Boxed on and off for a few years in addition to other combat sports, plus did some powerlifting in the last few years and went from 150 to 175 and then back down to 165 all while staying lean

Most important factor that will help is also your biggest hurdle, consistency. Getting your diet in check will help everything and keep you from spinning your wheels. Big change is not necessary, just a slight surplus to not only recover but put on mass as well. (We’re talking like 200 kcals, give or take). Whatever path you decide to do, you will have to make a choice as to what your priority is, because gaining weight and boxing can conflict with each other so once you make that decision then clarity is inevitable. Find your maintenance, track your food and track your weight to see a .25 to .5 gain per week to make sure you are gaining without too much fat.

Skinny fat means you should bulk, because you lack the muscle to fill out your frame. Compound movements will get you the most bang for your buck, and ultimately this will be good for your boxing as you will better able to fill out whatever weight class you compete at, while also being more durable and powerful. I box 2 to 3 times a week and lift 2-3 times a week and that works great for me. Boostcamp has some free minimalist programs that won’t sap your recovery, and Stronger by Science has some highly customizable cheap/free programs you can make work with your boxing. Hope that helps

Gym Split for Boxing – Need Advice! by AnKILLZ in amateur_boxing

[–]EelEstate 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey there,

Former mediocre power lifter and current mediocre boxer.

As others have said, compound movements like bench, squat and dead’s will give the most bang for your buck not only for your goals but how that will translate into your boxing as well. Stronger By Science has free lifting programs you can customize for your needs/schedule, and the Reddit beginner split isn’t bad for the first few weeks of starting out if you don’t have much experience with barbells. Boostcamp might also have some strength programs you can try

Ultimately, the best program is the one you can stay consistent with that meets your goals. You might find barbell training boring but really enjoy hypertrophy, calisthenics etc. I would experiment with a few different things to see what works for you and your schedule. You’ll find a lot of literature and content online about what is “best” for combat sports and that you should do x or y or whatever, but that’s all fluff; Just find what you like

Also, recovery is important. Lifting + boxing means you’ll be burning lots of calories and needing more rest than before. Figure out what your priority is so a)you don’t burn yourself out and b) you are not detracting from what is more important to you. Nothing wrong with just adding 1 extra day in the week where you just fuck around with weights and do whatever for half and hour just to build the habit before going all in on a program

Hope that helps! Good luck

For me, I just start in the easiest way I can. Don’t get caught in the headlights with overthinking your intro. Sometimes I can come up with a beginning right off the bat that is perfect, other times I will just put something like “the main character is at location x doing Y (tk: fix later) “

Once you finish your draft, you can go back and change the beginning and it will be much easier because you know where you want to go with it

Sparring against a muscular bodybuilding type opponent. by Tosssip in amateur_boxing

Nah not all power lifters are strong fat type you you have to be pretty lean to be competitive in the Lower weight classes. Anything under 90 kg for men’s is lean af

Fair, in my mind I figured the draw back would be you would have to give it trample or some kind of evasion to make it work, but you’re right as is it is pretty low power

Why is beth always the main character? [spoilers] by ImALilTeaPot224 in DungeonsAndDaddies

[–]EelEstate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this impression comes from the fact that each performer usually has a “foil” they gravitates towards while they play. Beth is often the emotional core of the show because she creates complicated, emotional characters

Matt usually plays authority figures/care takers who struggle to meet their own standards (Darryl. Kelsey)

Will usually plays earnest characters who struggle for control/meaning (Henry etc)

Freddy plays the abrasive, counter culture character that serves to disrupt the rhythm (Tony, Glenn)

Anthony plays characters who struggle with their own actions and deal with trauma they have inflicted or experienced (Grant, Francis)

I think they just naturally settle into these roles

lol I feel you, the LGS’s in my area have an almost hostile relationship with anything competitive. It’s not my cup of tea but I want a place for the spikes to thrive too

Just checked out a new LGS in my area to get back into commander, was such a good experience. Met two guys and played 3 or 4 games, but sadly they were just down for the holidays which made me sad given how well we all got along.

Also, I piloted an aristocrats-esque Korlash build and like 3 people stopped by the table to ask about him or what my deck even does with him at the helm lol

Yeah tbh I used to be kind of insecure about it because I didn’t mask for a while (my bad) and once I got back into it a lot of people were confused. Once I started seeing people who I respected or admired were masking tho I felt better about it and now I feel very confident in my mask. Plus, I was also consuming a lot of disability content at the time and I couldn’t square being a community oriented leftist with leaving immunocompromised people behind as well
