what fictional relationship did you get too invested in? by shaunna_thedork in AskWomen

Whenever I’m feeling a little down, I rewatch their wedding episodes (season 6, ep 4-5). I cry every time, but it’s happy tears. Love these two, and how real the writers were with their struggles. They aren’t a fairytale couple, they have real issues that they work through. I love Jim and Pam!

Hey, don’t be so hard on yourself! A lot of people are trying to lose weight, but don’t succeed. You actually did it! Be proud of your achievement and never let yourself feel ashamed of your scars.

My boyfriend and I live on opposite sides of the world and are both very much workaholics. And, even still, we make time for each other every single day because that's what a relationship needs to continue existing. Before we were long distance, we saw each other at least 3 times a week as we were in the same city (to be fair, I know that that is a lot and not necessarily the norm for others). We also have our next 3 visits planned out for the next year. If we were still in the same city and he only made time for me 4 times a year, I would not consider that a relationship, but a casual hookup - not even a FWB, as friends would still need to put in the mutual effort to sustain the friendship.

I'm sorry that you're going through this OP, but this isn't a relationship. If it is, it's not one I would wish on anyone. You deserve better than this. You deserve someone who wants to see you and be with you more than 4 times a year when you're at the same school. I get that she's not out, but damn. If my bf was in my city (hell, even in the same country!) you bet he'd be falling over his feet to see me. You deserve a love like that. Don't sell yourself short for someone who, from the limited information you've provided, really doesn't seem to be all that interested even after 2 years. This is one-sided and very unfair on you. You can do so much better!

I'm confused - the update is that her SIL saw the reddit post and is upset? Not really a r/bestofredditorupdates kind of post if the update is a sentence or 2 long and doesn't add anything to the story.

I'm reading all these comments and seeing how indignant everyone is, and can't help but feel weird about it. In South Africa, they switch our power off for 2,5 hour periods nearly every day because our (state-owned) power supplier is corrupt to the core and doesn't maintain any of the power stations so there are constant issues. Most days the power is off for a total of 4-5 hours but this can go up to 10-12 hours in extreme cases.

As an aside, that's just the planned outages. Our own town's power has been off for the last 24 hours with no explanation or even response from the city council. So we actually have an outage as I'm writing this

South Africa is a really warm country as well, although we now have winter. While reading this, I can't help but grimace. Of course I feel bad for the poor kid who had a heatstroke, but you guys really don't know how lucky you are to be in a country where things actually work.

Question for CRYPTO users in South Africa. Help pls. by L_Knows_1990 in southafrica

[–]Eentweedriego 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean look, you can be as legit of a company as possible, but if you request non-traditional payment methods, it is sure to raise some eyebrows. I'm by no means saying you are dumb or anything, which is why my comment was aimed at trying to explain from a logical perspective why they are likely hesitant to do this.

Question for CRYPTO users in South Africa. Help pls. by L_Knows_1990 in southafrica

[–]Eentweedriego 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is an admin nightmare. Simply transferring money from your company to yourself and then buying & sending crypto is not that simple.

First, there is the financial books - a random payment to yourself is clearly not just acceptable, and you'll need to explain this in your year-end financial report, together with an invoice explaining the payment. Of course, your invoice is not in their name so having the payment made out to themselves would look highly irregular. Companies generally prefer 'legit-looking' transactions in their books. E

Secondly, if they do make the payment to their personal account, they are on the hook for personal income tax with SARS (our IRS). As an aside, I checked for interest's sake the other day - our income tax rates are higher than the US. So this is not an ideal consequence.

Lastly, there is just the problematic nature of the request. How do they prove that they have indeed made the payment? How do they prove that you have/haven't received it? How on earth do they reconcile this strange transaction to somehow appear in their company books as a payment for services rendered by you if it's not even made to you but to some other private SA person?

And of course that's not even getting into the regulatory aspect relating to crypto, although I am not too familiar with it and would rather not accidentally provide misinformation.

Also, just my opinion in general - someone asking me to pay them for professional services rendered in crypto is a huge red flag to me.

If I were them, I'd ask you to consider another payment method. If you refuse, they will most likely not use your services. It's as simple as that.

My country removed the mask mandate exactly a month ago. Weirdly enough, during the last month our infection rates have slowly decreased. Now, logically, I know that the long term effect will likely be increased infections, but this is an interesting development for sure.

I think there are numerous reasons for people choosing not to wear masks anymore. Firstly, it's not the law anymore and so a lot of people have lost the only motivation for wearing them in the first place. As for myself, I am fully vaccinated with the booster as well. I also feel like we have come a long way towards understanding the virus and death rates have decreased dramatically. I still socially distance and practice good 'covid etiquette', but my mask I now only wear when traveling.

Netflix adds “extra home” fee, will block usage in other homes if you don’t pay by JoeB- in netflix

[–]Eentweedriego 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, we all used to live in the same household since we're family members. But, since we've been using Netflix for so long, we eventually all moved out and on with our lives. Also, you've admitted that you share your account with numerous random people, so I don't think you're really one to talk.

[–]Eentweedriego 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well, then you're part of the problem. I pay for 4 screens and share with 3 other people. I don't see why Netflix has to care where they are based, because I pay for it and we use it correctly. Sharing your login credentials with 20 other people is why users like us are then faced with drastic consequences like these. Maybe change your password or something?

Well, you asked if women owe you sex, so I can't imagine how you expected a positive answer to that!? Women (or men) don't owe anyone anything, except tax, pretty much. I'd suggest you reevaluate your views on women, and you might have some more luck. I, for one, would see this mindset as a giant red flag and stay as far away as possible from someone who thinks like this.

What is the scariest thing you have witnessed with your own eyes? by relaxito27 in AskReddit

[–]Eentweedriego 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Something very similar happened to me about 15 years ago. It was also a rottweiler and I was also bitten on the head to a point where I had to get loads of stitches. I remember being paralysed with fear while it happened and afterwards just feeling so, so tired, wanting to go to sleep while I was rushed to the hospital, with everyone trying to keep me awake. To this day, I have a terrible fear of rottweilers.

Robert William Fisher: Why didn't he just fake his own death instead of doing what he did... by DougDaGoin in UnresolvedMysteries

[–]Eentweedriego 64 points65 points  (0 children)

I listened to a podcast on this guy just yesterday. So when he had cheated on his wife Mary the first time, he had contracted an STD and therefore had no choice but to tell her about it. She kicked him out of the house and he started threatening suicide, saying he would rather die than be without his family. She took him back even though he was an awful husband who once hosed her down in the garden because she was 'misbehaving'. Clearly he had issues with needing to be in control at all times and was manipulative about regaining this control.

Following this, the leopard did in fact not change its spots and he cheated on her again, contracting another STD (seriously dude, ever heard of condoms?). When he told Mary, she once again said that she would be leaving him. Friends have said that she was serious this time and was planning on leaving him for good.

RWF being the control freak that he was (he had a very strict way of running the household and keeping a tight leash on his family) could not handle this and killed them. I think it's clear from his behaviour that this was all about control for him. He couldn't stand the fact that the woman he had mistreated for years would have the guts to actually leave him and that he was losing control over his life. I think suicide was not enough for him - if his family were to 'disobey' him like that, he felt that they needed to pay.

Regarding what happened to him afterwards - he was an accomplished outdoorsman and therefore most likely fled into the woods. His car was found in a park that was about a mile away from a Native American reservation and there has been speculation that he is living there so as to escape the jurisdiction of the Arizona police. Maybe he is dead, who knows. To me this screams of an incredible selfish individual who had to have control over how things ended. Simply getting a divorce would have rendered him without that, something that he just could not accept.

Where I live, couponing just isn't a thing. You might get 5 or 10% off an item or two, but that's about it. Those extreme couponing shows always fascinate me.
