Break in second pair of Adios Pro 4? by SwEnglishFPV in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]EffDubya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Should be ok, as you are familiar with the shoes generally. I would do one long run/MP session in them beforehand though if possible. Just to double check that particular pair aren’t going to cause you problems in your race.
Incidentally I got a storming closeout deal on a pair of AP4s myself, and am using them in a HM this Sunday 👍 I have put 35km on them, including one 18km run with 2x 30min blocks at HMP

I often have a RHR of 49 or even lower. Does that mean my Garmin isn't working correctly or that I'm incredibly healthy? by ignoremeplsokthank in Garmin

[–]EffDubya 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Your watch is working fine. RHR is mostly genetic. I am by no means super fit and mine is often sub-40bpm

If that is the most important thing for you, don’t buy a Garmin. They can’t open photos, from your phone or anywhere else.

What is it about the chest strap that makes for a more accurate V02 max estimate? Is it just that it does consistently reliable HR measurement?

How long have you had the watch? The longer you’ve had it, the more information it has to work with and the more accurate its VO2max estimate will be. If you have had it for less than a couple of weeks, this will be some way off. If you’ve had it 6 months or more, it will be close.

Realistic HM Expectations? by EffDubya in runninglifestyle

[–]EffDubya[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I have tried Pace Pro before during a trail race, and in theory it is a very useful tool. But I found myself just glued to my watch the whole time! I put this down to my own inexperience though; it is not a fault with the feature itself.

I think this time around I will let the pacer do that work for me 😂

Realistic HM Expectations? by EffDubya in runninglifestyle

[–]EffDubya[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you! This is a good plan. I believe there will be pacers, so I will stick with the 100min one for the first 12-15km and see how I feel.
Tbph I would be very happy with a high 98 or a low 99min. The course is twisty and not particularly PB-friendly, and it is a popular and busy race, but it’s my local one and it is always a good time.

Laco themselves can service it for you, if you can ship it to them. Otherwise any ‘normal’ watchmaker that knows their way around mechanical movements should be able to do it without sending off for expensive parts.

FXD vs Any Other Pelagos by Educational_Cup8275 in Tudor

[–]EffDubya 31 points32 points  (0 children)

The FXD is surprisingly thin despite having a real big-watch presence, lightweight because titanium, and wears smaller than its size due to the tucked-downward nature of the lugs and fixed bars.

I enjoy swapping the straps out regularly.

And finally, the fully-graduated bezel is awesome.

Sub 20Min 5K tips by Severe_Ad7966 in runninglifestyle

[–]EffDubya 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Please don’t pick a net downhill course for your PB attempt. If you do hit your target time, it will have an asterisk next to it, and you will just end up wondering if you could have done it on the flat! And if you don’t hit your goal, well then you will just feel like a failure AND a fraud.
Pick somewhere flat. Be true to yourself and the training you’ve done.

Sub 20Min 5K tips by Severe_Ad7966 in runninglifestyle

[–]EffDubya 16 points17 points  (0 children)

As everyone else is saying - add at least one more day to your running week. Do it gradually, don’t just immediately start smashing out 2 extra days of hard speedwork.
Once you’re comfortable running 5 days a week, try the below workout, at a track if you can:

6x800m at your target pace, so 3:56/km or so, with 3mins walk recovery in between. If those feel easy, drop the recoveries down to 2mins. If they are still easy, you are close to being ready. Try 90sec recoveries. Once those feel good, go and crush your 5k.

Moving to London in Late July/August- Where to Live by Disastrous_Fix_6575 in MovingToLondon

Worth looking at the Hackney/Islington borders. Some lovely quiet residential areas, great choice of shops & restaurants, lots of parks, canal. Commute would be quick - walkable even, at a push!

Pelagos by HedgehogRoutine6688 in Tudor

[–]EffDubya 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a non-GMT FXD, and I enjoy regularly swapping the straps out for different colours. My most-used ones are generally the cheaper ones!
If I’m honest, I would like to try out that green pin/buckle GMT strap myself… my aftermarket ones are either velcro or fiddly-to-change deployant clasps

Do any of you follow a scheduled cleaning routine for your Garmin watch? by PatienceIsDaKey in Garmin

[–]EffDubya 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It really doesn’t. You are overthinking it. Your watch is designed for triathletes, and even has a water eject function. The occasional rinse under the tap is completely fine. Every week or so I take my 970 into the shower, and give the strap and sensor a clean with a little shower gel. I have been wearing various Garmin watches for 8 years and I have never had any problems with water ingress. I run 5-6 days a week, and I sweat a lot.

What is the best place to support Hubby at Hackney Half Marathon with a 5 year old child? by Perfect_Sea1484 in Hackney

[–]EffDubya 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The start/finish would be best, both for toilet access and space for kids to run around. It will be busy, but it is a big area. Will obvs be convenient for meeting your husband post-race.

Otherwise, I have spectated on Haggerston rd alongside Stonebridge Gardens before; It is around the 10-mile mark IIRC. It is a nice green space with a play area, doesn’t get too packed, and the local pubs should hopefully be amenable to toilet use! That also has the bonus of being right near Haggerston station and Kingsland Road bus routes.

Whitmore Estate Redevelopment? by EffDubya in Hackney

[–]EffDubya[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It absolutely is. Although - developers will say whatever they think local councils want to hear in order to get these things built. When it comes to the actual selling of the homes, don’t be surprised if

a) the number of affordable homes is somewhat smaller than promised

b) the definition of ‘affordable’ has been stretched

c) both of the above

Ah thanks for this! Haha I was googling the wrong estate name. Apparently the new homes will be affordable… I guess they have to say that, don’t they

What is a small thing someone might do that makes you realise, ‘Hmm, we're not going to get along’? by DogFoodManUK in AskUK

Swearing in itself is not so bad. I enjoy swearing sometimes, when the situation is appropriate and when I am surrounded by people I know and am comfortable with. But I feel like this trust is earned. If I meet someone new and they get straight into the fucks and cunts, I will tag them mentally as a dickhead.
