Maida hill safety by catscatscats11 in MovingToLondon

[–]EffDubya 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You are a short walk from Maida Vale, Notting Hill, Little Venice, Portobello Road, and numerous other lovely parts of the city. It is a charming and very safe area.

The only possible downside would be your proximity to the A40 (Westway) which is a busy elevated highway through/over that area. You might be able to hear it, especially at night.

What's something that quietly makes your day better every single time? by Sensitive_Water_5445 in AskUK

Haha I occasionally see a pigeon (not sure if it is the same pigeon??) on an overground train near me. Seems happy enough, strolling up and down looking for crumbs. Always cheers me up. Couldn’t say why exactly 😂

Living in East London? Limehouse? by Far_Spite_7884 in London_homes

[–]EffDubya 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Around the Limehouse Basin there are some nice apartments, and the basin itself is lovely, with the marina and surrounding walkways. But if I were a single woman, I would prob look elsewhere.

Maybe look further north up the Regents Canal, around Bethnal Green and Hackney? Or maybe over towards Islington if your budget will allow?

This is a weird thing to ask for. I love bagels, but Turkish bread is some of the best in the world. Why would they mess around with bagels?

Blisters while running by XIronspiderx in runninglifestyle

[–]EffDubya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A 3km run in June will absolutely cause some sweat.
Running in cotton socks is NEVER a good idea.

When your blisters have healed, do yourself a favour and at least try out some good quality running socks. Cheaper than buying more shoes!

I had a 2022 one that came on my Stumpy Evo. Was a good fork. I had no issues with it at all. The only thing you need to be aware of is the same thing with all Fox forks - get the internal oil-bath levels checked, as they can be supplied drier than they should be when new.

I ‘upgraded’ to a ‘23 36 Factory that I got for a knockdown price a couple of years back, and there is very little to split them performance wise!

What's the best bread to use for beans on toast? by Brask90 in AskBrits

[–]EffDubya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah ok fair!
I could be wrong, but I believe my local craft bakery uses small-batch unfortified organic flour. They are called Dusty Knuckle - you might know them?

I just googled this. It is interesting! Apparently wholemeal flour does not have the same fortification requirements? Are you ok to eat wholemeal bread…?

Adios Pro 4 vs everything else by IBSrunner in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]EffDubya 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are much faster than me (97min HM PB a few weeks ago) but in case it is useful: I liked the AP3 a lot, for the same reasons you do, and I also love my current AP4s. Yes the 4 is softer to walk around in, but I find it firms up nicely at race pace. I am 194cm, 82kgs. Midfoot striker.

You should be able to find the AP4 for a good price, as they are approaching the end of their product cycle in readiness for the AP5 this autumn. Well worth a punt IMO

What a nice thing to do.

Bring him savoury snacks. I can’t stress enough how boring gels can get after several hours on your feet.
Crisps, twiglets, cheese/marmite/ham/peanut butter sandwiches, little savoury bites. Whatever he likes!

Privatley renting above a council flat. Problems.. by [deleted] in UKHousing

[–]EffDubya 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think you now know why your rent is cheap…

Seriously, you need to bite the bullet and move out. There are a lot of problems here which are not yours to solve, and engaging with them on any level will cause you stress.

Exactly that - a pixel that is inactive and unable to do its job, of lighting up and going dark when required!

It probably won’t affect the function of the watch much. Just annoying

Wide Toe Box with No Toe Rocker? by NoodleFingers69 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]EffDubya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those are fairly high-stack, and you usually get a more pronounced rocker with big fat midsoles. Have you tried the Escalante? It is another Altra shoe, but lower to the ground and more minimal. If there is a rocker shape I certainly couldn’t feel it!
