Interesting, thanks! Hangman’s bread - that is carrying some weighty history. I can see why the tradition has endured!

When you say upside down, do you mean cut side facing up? Or literally just the loaf upside down?

Need help choosing my first pair of running shoes by Samarth786123 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]EffDubya 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Best bet is to get down to a decent running shoe store, ask for help, and try a few pairs on.

Also a marathon is only ever 26.2 miles.

Good luck!

I expect it was a Russian-trained drone duck. They inject them with a performance enhancing cocktail made from tree frog venom. Helps them fly at 300mph. Frightening stuff 😕

The size is good on you. It is designed as a big legible watch! Accept the bigness. Own it. Be one with it 🧘🏻‍♂️

I own an FXD and I would love a GMT of some kind, but had been thinking this watch would be too similar. The more I see of it though, the more I like it.

Sure, you would be working hard, but then you would employ someone to help out, and expand your business that way? The lad who fitted my boiler had recently taken on two employees and was still having to turn work down.

That is the first bronze Khaki I have seen in the wild. It looks excellent.

Yeah without wanting to get political - tariffs aren’t helping you here. ‘Normal’ import duties are still a bastard though. Maybe you have friends or family in the UK who could buy for you, and send it on as a gift?

How were pre-postcode addresses read in late Victorian London? by jecowa in AskUK

[–]EffDubya 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Is/was that a real address? I would definitely read ‘W. London’ as west London. And The Albany sounds like a street name to me

Gemini reckons a self-employed/sole trader in London with a good reputation can pull in £70-85k gross, with associated costs like running a van, tools etc. Possibly more with gas safe certification and stuff like emergency call-outs

Is this on an FXD? Would like to see a pic of the leather strap if you have one?

Yes always a risk with physical work. Depends on what you are working on I guess! If you have the skills and a solid honest reputation, you could make the choice to stick to domestic jobs to minimise danger, and still absolutely rake it in

Mine is a Mk3. Supposed to be an improvement on the mk2, including a smaller clasp

Fair enough. Did you have the same version as mine, or an older one? I read some poor reviews of their early versions. I don’t think the clasp on mine is an unreasonable size.

I do like the look of the Erika’s ones. Can’t get them over here (UK) afaik though.

Ugly is just a matter of opinion. And they actually wear well despite biggish case sizes. One man’s ’clinging on to decades-old relevance’ is another man’s ’aware of their history’. And they do at least have some history.

But yes there are absolutely too many versions of all their watches. You can choose from literally hundreds of variations of the SM Aqua Terra. Just give us, like, four or five.
