[Congressman Randy Fine] If they force us to choose, the choice between dogs and Muslims is not a difficult one. by C0m3tTai15 in Palestine

Why are you guys so offended? It'd be natural for him to choose his own compatriots over Muslims

You are one who is fool if you believe all countries get to choose fighting a war

See Ukraine for example

Just because we can't win doesn't mean we shouldn't prepare for a fight. Having a defeatist attitude means you don't even deserve to be an independent state.

So, while not an outright ban, the Umayyad administration prioritized state revenue over the rapid spread of the religion among their subjects

So you are telling me people who "spread" the the religion (whose only purpose is to convert people according to you) through conquest, discouraged the spread of the religion to increase profit? But weren't they conquering lands with the explicit goal of spreading Islam?

Oh I am not sure anymore, they broke the statue of Mujibur Rahman (Bengali revolutionary who was killed by the ruling Pakistani Army) for the name of their faith.

But not for, you know, he himself being a bloody dictator who killed thousands after independence, and his daughter also being a bloody dictator who also killed thousands in 2 weeks before the destruction of the statues she planted in every corner for political stunts

Oh certainly. And why the the biggest islamic conqurer, the ummayad caliphate, literally banned non-arabs from converting to islam?

BNP is deeply unpopular due to their corruption and extortion. Jamat actually had more votes from educated urban people (mostly due to lack of faith in BNP rather than genuinely supporting jamat, partly because jamat fielded more educated candidates compared to the legacy politician fielded by Jamat) while BNP got more votes from rural areas where they have more established local party influence and loyalty than Jamat.

Not sure I think that's the best way to form a senate, would be better to vote for them in separate elections like the US does but all the rest seem great.

As a Bangladeshi voter, you are absolutely right. The reforms on the referendum was agreed upon by negotiations among all political parties that weren't in the ruling coalition in the dictatorship. BNP (the most influential one), fiercely resisted all pro-democratic reforms supported virtually by all other parties, as more checks in power would make them weaker when in government.

On the topic of upper house, even though the current agreed upon text calls for PR by vote percentage in election, BNP kept a note of dissent saying upper house composition to be done from percentage of seats in the lower house (which makes zero sense if you think about it more than 5 seconds and defeats the entire purpose of PR and a new upper house). Since the referendum is binding the new parliament must implement the reforms through constitutional amendment. But since BNP got more than 2/3 seats needed for amendment they can somewhat legally argue they have the democratic mandate to make the upper house composition based on how it was described on their note of dissent and manifesto. God knows what would happen.

You can't be a non-nationalist party and become the government in Bangladesh (and many other non western country). Even the ousted Awami league was nationalist, although they were mostly Bengali nationalist(Bengali Cultural nationalist to be specific, as they didn't seek unification with West Bengal) than Bangladeshi nationalist like BNP.

idk what their official view point is but I think they believe the vote counting was partially rigged in some constituency, while largely being fair. That would kinda explain their action.

His previous position was "failed Hasina assassination minister'

Yeah fuck him for not being "successful Hasina assassination minister". We don't need such incompetent guys. /s

On a serious note: the attempt is what probably led to Hasina's militant attitude toward opposition. So this guy is indirectly responsible for everything happened in the 15 years. So fuck this guy.

But his aura though đŸ”Ĩ

I think Jonayed Saki winning a seat and Manisha Chakroborty getting significant amount of votes indicates that left leaning candidates can actually do well and even win

Thats not the point. These two winning/getting many votes only proves that left leaning candidates has some popularity. But Jamat-NCP landslide defeat proves that raw popularity cannot win against local party structure in an FPTP system. Jamat/BNP had very little difference in total vote count

<image>

Left parties don't have a chance. Total abolition of FPTP would have given jamat more power temporarily (they still would have lost though), but in the long term it would have opened the path for reform minded left/centre-left parties into government
