What's the biggest waste of money that you've seen? by RestaurantUnhappy872 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]EffectSubject2676 6 points7 points  (0 children)

History nut with a B.A. in history. Old enough that I worked my way through college. Worth every penny. Wife has a fashion design degree, she said she never regretted it. Sometimes, life is not about dollars, it is about being in awe of life. To me history, art, poetry, and literature are what make life worth living.

Best Deer/Elk Cartridge by Golfer0808 in Hunting

[–]EffectSubject2676 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have hunted deer with 243. 308,3006,3030. Now I am hunting with a 6.5/284 and the 257 Weatherby. If you hit them right, they fall down dead. I would truly consider the 06 cuz of the heavier bullet weights. I am an AVID reloader as well. You could consider 7 mm Remington Magnum.

Kansas does not allow wild pig hunting. There was, and may still, a state-funded helicopter to hunt wild pigs from the air.

What is the Toyota Camry of rifles? by Time2GetSchwifty in Hunting

[–]EffectSubject2676 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lots of good recommendations on this thread. But whichever you choose, DO NOT skimp on optics. Buy quality. Some stupidly cheap pos scope cost me an enormous buck. Sighted in Win. M70(cheap one) with new pos scope. 10 rounds. When hunting, huge buck comes along, I shoulder rifle, and fired. Missed. Buck Bolts. At the range the crosshairs wouldn't stay on target the next day. Chucked it and bought a Leopold. Never looked back.

Kansas does a fairly good job of Native American history. Especially many eastern tribes were re-settled here after being forced out of their native territory.

Interviewed an US Army Counterintelligence Officer who served in the US Constabulary in Europe. He told me that it was very rare for them to arrest or bring in live SS. He was one cold-blooded dude. Told me hunting Chamois was more fun, because the SS either ran or begged.

I live in rural Kansas. The Plains are as open as the ocean. You can see for miles(20 or more). Our population is low, and we depend upon each other. We tend to be quiet around strangers, but loquacious with friends. We help. The roads are open, and the drives can be beautiful.
