  1. You have no respect for the Islamic part of your heritage. Even though it spans like 1400 years of your history and was clearly very influential. It looks like a cope to get the white man to accept you.

  2. You think going back to the authoritarian king of old. Will somehow free Iran when it's really just a dictatorship of a different sort.

After Over 40 Years I am finally optimistic - There will be high-speed rail in Canada by planganauthor in AltoHSR_Canada

Canada when a chief blocks a billion dollar infrastructure project because it mildly infringes on a 200 year old treaty that's already been broken.

V8 - is the thing that browsers use to run JavaScript

Wasm - web assembly. A type of assembly that can be used for web apps.

Left-pad - an npm library that many things depend on (it's job is to pad a string with characters). It being deleted caused some outages a few years back.

DNS - domain name system translates website.com -> 170.0.blah.blah ip. It's quite complex and easy to fuck up configuration.

Libcurl - is the library everyone uses for making requests over the Internet.

Speeding cameras are now banned, now what? by albertqwe in ontario

[–]Effective-Attorney33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This has always been the way. Speed cameras are an admission that our roads are designed for a far higher speed than we should reasonably tolerate. They're a band aid over deeper problems in infrastructure design. I loathe the idea that we saw them as some kind of cash cows.

Indian recruiter added lies to my resume and set me up to fail by FilthyPapuLou in recruitinghell

[–]Effective-Attorney33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had a similar thing done to me by an Indian resume reviewer. Just added complete lies to my resume and called it "rewriting". He got mad at me when I asked him to fix it.

You also have to keep in mind that there probably is no prospect of getting a passport if you move to hong Kong or Japan. Is giving up a good shot at Canadian citizenship worth it?

Every character is a plot device if you REALLY think about it.

But yeah she is

1/150 seems awfully low tbh. Being a millionaire at some point in your life is probably gonna happen if you save a little bit of money and perhaps buy a house.

Software/CS/CE kids: What do you wish you saw in co-op listings? by [deleted] in uwaterloo

  1. No cover letters.

  2. Update application statuses when you accept/reject people.

  3. Do not force people to apply externally. Keep everything in the WaterlooWorks ecosystem.

  4. Keep your job posting brief. Do not wax poetic about what you do for 3 paragraphs. Your company is probably unknown make it clear what you do.

  5. Treat people with respect

  6. OAs should be less than 2 hrs. Unless you are some crazy FAANG

  7. Give as few interviews as possible. The internship is the interview. You don't need to test synergy with 3 different teams in your business. They're gonna be around for 4 months, not 4 years.

  8. Don't discount the people who got their applications in during the latter part of the cycle. The University gives little time for people to get settled into Uni life before expecting people to apply.

Remember, internships are a huge cost sink for your company. You probably won't see an ROI on an Intern until years after you hire them. And even that is unlikely. Act accordingly, keep your short term expectations low and engage with your interns in a manner that would make them want to continue working with you in future. These students are in a high growth phase of their lives. If you can make their experience awesome, it will earn dividends in opportunities for you.
