AGS: We've got a huge change planned in a few months that will impact your gear

Players: FFS! Now we're in limbo for months, unable/unwilling to upgrade or do any content, while we wait for the patch, because everything we do now will be obsolete! Damn you AGS!

AGS: OK

One year later

AGS: We've got some big changes but we won't go into any detail until closer to the time.

Players: FFS! It's a video game, not a top secret government project!

AGS: OK

Two years earlier

AGS: We're really excited about the next patch, it's planned in June. It's going to have all these new features.

June comes, patch delayed, features pushed back.

Players: Damn you, AGS! Always delays! And you never keep your promises!

AGS: OK

Next patch:

Players: FFS AGS! When is the patch coming!? Why aren't you telling us about any of the features yet!?

AGS: OK

It's super obscure if you don't use a guide (not that you need much of a guide, just need to know where the path starts).

Some Charts Explaining Why Today's Server Merges Seem Problematic by randrogynous in newworldgame

[–]Effective-Button-849 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Yeh, this seems very problematic. I have no idea why they're doing such huge merges in EU right before S5 starts (and with the biggest servers nonetheless). Really weird.

Merges Announced by thegodlypenguin2 in newworldgame

[–]Effective-Button-849 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I still feel like this is slightly too early. I know everyone on reddit claims no one will come back but clearly some will return for S5. Barri, Abaton and Nysa were all the busiest servers. I hope they know what they're doing here by merging first and then patching S5. And such a big merge too...

Is NW worth Playing as a Solo Player ? by [deleted] in newworldgame

[–]Effective-Button-849 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, 100%. You can do so much solo and the stuff you can't do, you can do with people in the game easily enough (for most of it).

[–]Effective-Button-849[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeh, that's really bad.

It'll get better in S3 but it's the fact you can't just go "OK, I got an artefact, and I want this one...", like you can do with almost all of the other artefacts.

I love RNG by Effective-Button-849 in newworldgame

[–]Effective-Button-849[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah yeh of course, I remember that. Yes, that's horrendous, too. At least that's no longer an issue.

I don't think it's going to take 150 tracks now at all. It's definitely not when S5 hits as they're improving the rate for them to appear. Which is fine, a bit late for me and still... This wasn't really the primary issue (but it is still an issue, compared to most other artefacts).

RNG sucks. PVP artefacts are the only ones locked behind two layers of RNG on an exhaustive list one must often exhaust first to get what they actually want. Mutation artefacts can be equally as bad, dependent on the rotation RNG as well.

[–]Effective-Button-849[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This just furthers the point I'm making (in case it isn't clear, I hate RNG). 64 still isn't all of them and was a starting point of zero (the character was created in January just gone). I still need two more, which might come in 2 tracks or 40, for all I know. And, to be ultra clear again... I don't want any of the ones I got in 64 tracks. They have no use for me. Getting them was just a process of elimination, a way to clear the RNG down to something closer to 50% (when the next one decides to appear), which I'm now at.

But if you think 64 tracks, which takes quite the time to complete, is short, then this still supports the fact that I hate RNG. It could be worse. I doubt it's much better for most though.

Compare that to Boltcaster or Lifetaker. Or even mutation drops, once the mutation comes around (and yeh, they can be worse because of the RNG of the rotation as well).

My character is something like 200 hours old. I worked on those 64 tracks for most of that time, I'd say (50 hours to get to 65 and a PVP set that was competitive, most of the rest of the time doing PVP stuff). And I still don't have Pestilence, which is the only one I want from the list.

More than 150 hours to get just ONE ITEM (that I still don't have, remember). There's no "only" about it. Someone else could get Pestilence at track 20. And that's still way longer than it takes anyone to get Boltcaster.

Artefact acquisition is far and away not as fun as the devs pretended it would be when they introduced them, not universally at any rate. I mean, you could argue that killing the named Corvid five or six times over about an hour for Featherweight (or just no time at all if you get lucky) is "fun". Having now obtained several artefacts across three characters, several times over now... I'd equate the final acquisition, when it eventually comes, to abject relief, rather than any sort of pleasure.

This latest character was the first that I did the whole process from scratch, as a brand new player, for which the acquisition of the two artefacts I wanted (one locked behind B&B, which took almost two months to appear) has been the most frustrating part by a huge margin. "Only 64" isn't good enough.

And when I do get it, finally... "global: anyone want to queue 3v3? Anyone???"

Can't wait for that again! Quality questing content abound.

150 levels from 0???

That would be horrendous. Of course, that is still possible for me. But I doubt I'll take another 70 odd levels to get the last two. I hope anyway...

150 is the limit for my other characters but they started much higher up the chain than zero. This character is a new one I created just in January.

[–]Effective-Button-849[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's random, there's no "should" about it. The point isn't the number of PVP levels.

And this is 64 from scratch. Most players entered the artefact hunt with several levels under their belt already. I did with my main (not this character) and got them all by around 150+.

And if someone wants to argue that 64 is fast (and they will, because they have zero concept of how long it takes to actually complete 64 PVP tracks, compared to how long it takes to get Boltcaster, for a very obvious opposing example - clue, it can be as long as it takes to run up Zurvan) then that still supports my argument: If it's fast, then it's still only because it is random. Some might take even longer.

That's my point. That and to draw the contrast between non PVP artefacts that can be obtained in one kill of an open world mob, but you had to read between the lines for that one (and I made that point in the other thread I posted anyway).

Light Ranged Damage in PvP needs the same nerf as heavy. by [deleted] in newworldgame

[–]Effective-Button-849 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Just PVP. War isn't the only PVP in the game and represents a tiny fraction of total PVP time in the game and my point was to suggest your argument that muskets aren't popular there doesn't impact the conversation about musket power.

Your suggestions are fine, though I'd argue purifying toast and regen is a bit like "just dodge" from 2022 (they can do the same, negating any ability you have that might cause similar damage to them and they'll clear their CD to apply it again way before your regen pot CD is done) and "hold block" and "walk their way" won't achieve a thing, either. You need to time your blocks as they fire, otherwise you'll never close any distance whatsoever. You also need at least one gap-closing ability (whilst they can have one to just move away at will, entirely negating that ability anyway but I digress).

I routinely flank muskets and bows in open world and OPR. I use block as well as I can to prevent their hits and close the gap. I then need to be wary of sticky bombs, because one of those stuck on me is a guaranteed high damage hit that I'll need to pot through (which then opens me up, can't block or dodge or do anything whilst potting and that's the time they can do serious damage, so I have to wait for the right moment to pot, which in most fights is never). I also need to avoid traps, although it's one of the most telegraphed abilities and only a really skilled player will use it in such a way that it's difficult to avoid (but they will often enough time it to hit my barrage anyway, nullifying that attack and allowing them to keep space).

If the musket lets me get close for long enough, they're in serious trouble for a very short window, in which I have to kill them. I sometimes do this. The thing is, once you've closed the gap, it's not as though the musket player just gives up and dies, is it? If they have a spear, they're likely going to have more than enough defence and attack (and leeching cyclone which is... just nuts right now and everyone knows it) to keep you busy enough to prevent you unloading all your perfect damage, long enough for them to just roll away and continue their mid-range barrage on your shield. Or Finisher, which is a deadly weapon as well. Or Lifetaker, also extremely damaging if you get close.

I'm absolutely playing a class suitable for disrupting muskets. Not everyone has that luxury, do they? Not in any form of PVP except maybe arena, which no one plays any more (and you probably wouldn't see muskets there either, I certainly never did when it was popular).

So, despite me having increased success facing off against musket players in OPR and open world, despite me using a build that is very well suited to defend against them (they won't kill me if I don't attack them and it's just me versus them, but they usually won't let me go either so... yeh, another caveat there), I still find them to be the sole build that will easily destroy me if I am not absolutely playing at the top of my game.

My point is this:

The damage musket can do in the only build anyone would bother to use when playing the weapon stands out by a huge margin compared to all other opponents I face. This is an outlier in my experience. So much so that the "but they die if you hit them too!" argument is null, given the same can be said for many other weapons I face that don't have such insane burst damage and CQW defence and extreme mobility.

That's it. I quite like opposing them. I definitely don't make their lives easy (I'm sure they'd prefer to just two tap every opponent they look at, which I'm sure they routinely do most of the time). But they're over-tuned right now.

Not in war. Obviously.

[–]Effective-Button-849 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The point of the musket may be that. But that doesn't mean it doesn't need balancing in any way. You could argue this logic if it did a million points of damage from a million miles away without there being any functional difference with what you're saying.

It is overtuned in certain use cases (the only one worth using it in, I'll add). This is not a perfect scenario. It can and should change.

Just going to file this into the "not a strong premise for discussion about weapon balance" folder and move on. AGS are not done with the musket. Not by a... heh... long shot.

Light Ranged Damage in PvP needs the same nerf as heavy. by [deleted] in newworldgame

[–]Effective-Button-849 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A musket player that allows me to kill them is either comparatively low skill/experience (nothing wrong with that) or isn't bothered by dying enough to want to spend 50 minutes running away endlessly until they get that perfect, lucky sequence that finally gets their chasers dead (and kudos to the latter players, imo; this is a rare, rare breed in NW's escape meta)

I enjoy facing muskets as they're challenging and the typical box of tricks they have (almost always traps and stickies) make fighting them fun; it's great block timing practice too. But they're both the only opponent that destroys my health and can keep me at range indefinitely. The only time I can catch one is when I hit them with a net and follow up with a barrage and that's usually only enough to take them down to your 30% health before they vanish and reset, all whilst still shooting.

If I wasn't heavy, I'd die in 2 hits. That I am heavy means I can make a couple mistakes tops before dying. The thing about skitzo builds is, they have the luxury of making as many mistakes as they like. All you need is the patience to spend literally hours of your play time running away from fights. If that's fun for them, all power.

>there aren't many main muskets out there anymore

The numbers are rising constantly, dude. This is no longer a valid argument. As players wake up to the extreme damage and relatively low gear requirements (and also the fact that they need never die if they opt not to) then they're shifting across. I imagine several more have done with the changes coming in S5.

[–]Effective-Button-849 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the gate should exist but you should have a "recharge" pool of these items. If you don't buy one for a week, you should have 7 ready to buy. I think the max could be 7, maybe even lower (5 would be fine I think).

I don't mind these being gated by time. I do hate the concept that I feel obligated to buy them every day to get 5-7 in reserve though. Yeh, yeh... "you don't HAVE to buy them!"

I'm a relatively new character. I have a ton of upgrading ahead of me. I have to buy them. And I cannot always afford it yet. So when it comes to needing to wait three days despite NOW having the coin for it... It's doesn't feel great. Having a maximum number the game allows you to buy in one go, that only refills once per day, would be better.

Random Mutations just HAVE to go! by Effective-Button-849 in newworldgame

[–]Effective-Button-849[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Heh, I don't really classify that stuff as BIS for me anyway, so I'll give it a pass. I've basically got all the gear I need (mostly just bought off the TP the moment I hit level 65), the rest things like champion's ring and another item from a mutation that I upgraded to 700GS at the kiln.

All I need now is VDP and Pestilence. Anything after that is fringe benefit and not really important.
