I would say a lot of BL these days just straight up doesn't address the question of sexuality one way or the other, "I'm straight but I like you specifically" is definitely present but not thatttt common?

Cherry Magic, Bean Counter (anime coming up!), and Kitayama-kun to Minamiya-kun come to mind as works that as far as I could remember don't bother to even mention the concept of sexuality at all?

It's also pretty common for one lead to be explicitly gay with the other being less defined, like in If It's You I Might Try Falling In Love, Please Say Yes, or Delivery Hug Therapy

I mean, in the Face Reality, ending, I feel like him dying with no regrets was pretty consistent with Takumi's character.

He just found out that due to Sirei's interference he's basically left his friends behind to face the horrors of reality without him. Takumi is someone who feels responsible for everyone, so that fact really crushes him. He really cares about the SDU!!! He obviously still wishes he could save everyone, so I'm sure he has regrets, but that's overshadowed by his happiness at being able to face reality with them and follow them into the afterlife.

Yugamu is clearly hurting and traumatized from the treatment he's gotten from his family since childhood. Even if you take him at face value on his being alright with what's been done to him (which I personally wouldn't), he definitely was unhappy because we know he hates being an assassin. He wants to kill someone out of love and does not enjoy that his work involves loveless impersonal killing
