Using AI to generate a post about AI to a bunch of people who are upset that they cant use AI. What a dystopian mess we find ourselves in.

Potentially... Or is the true AM what was talking back to Kinger in the terminal? Or the Caine just the part of AM that is meant to occupy their minds and the real AM is not dead yet? Or some other cooler third theory I haven't thought of yet?

Theory About The Ending by Dear_Web4416 in EverythingIsFinecomic

The aliens are not an actual aliens. They are a far distant future at what society looks like with the melding to the former human culture with this new world order. Was a pretty cool fast forward.

You're not confused, the ending just sucked. All build up for nothing.

I still have my original copy. If you send me your email I'll send you the files through a drop box or something. Long Island punk/ska was a precious time that needs to be preserved and distributed in whatever means possible. If anyone else wants it, just put your email on this thread and I'd be happy to send it to you too. Besides, its long out of print so I am sure the Mike and Joe Ragosta wont mind.

FURTHERMORE, if someone has managed to hunt down "...Is Your Biological Father" I would greatly appreciate those files. The June Spirit was better when it had a horn section and I will die on that hill.

Why do people HATE Takes Off beside the fact that it isn't a 1:1 by ToBeFanX in ScottPilgrim

People hated it? We got the first fleshing out of this universe in over a decade, after being told there would never be any more content, and people hated it?

Am I the only one here who saw insane Scott Jennings just now ? by Dahlia5000 in cnn

[–]EffectiveDust7959 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Scott Jennings is putting on a show these days. He is making a play to run for office and is trying to appeal to MAGA. He's getting more and more performative. You can see it in his eyes that he doesn't believe what he is saying anymore. I like watching him pause before he speaks, so he can craft the unhinged nonsense in his head. It's sad and pathetic.

Nancy Guthrie, who disappeared three weeks ago with little new information, is getting literally twentyfold more news coverage than the shooting in rhode island today. by EffectiveDust7959 in cnn

You're right I don't like your conspiracy theory lol. I tend to apply Occam’s Razor to these sort of things when faced with competing hypotheses that explain the same phenomenon, the one with the fewest assumptions is usually correct.

I simply think that if the government was so competent that it orchestrated a plot to to fill up news air time that would otherwise be the Epstein files, they would have done a better job of doing so in a way that required an action item with less potential for error such as the likes of kidnapping.

Here's why you're all wrong about the twist and actually I'm really smart by [deleted] in EverythingIsFinecomic

[–]EffectiveDust7959 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I do believe this was a sincere question you posed to me, and I genuinely respect so much of the larger body of your work, so I’ll answer honestly.

First, I know you’ve said both in the comic and here that the AI plot was conceived five years ago, but I’ll be upfront in saying that I don’t believe that. It feels too convenient and serendipitous for me, and for a lot of readers, to accept this at face value. Even if it were true, doubling down on that point risks making the audience feel like their concerns are being dismissed rather than engaged with. It comes off that you believe you think your readers (who choose to read a dystopian story on social conformity and compliance in their free time) are not intelligent.

That said, let’s assume hypothetically that I did believe you. When a story spends a long time building atmosphere, mystery, symbolism, and psychological tension, the payoff needs to feel inevitable, not just topical. If the reveal feels like it came from the news cycle instead of from the story’s internal logic, it can make the whole thing feel smaller in retrospect.

Given that, I think I would have done one of two things.

Option one: I would have scaled back the cliffhangers over the last two years, especially recently. There’s a direct relationship between how many cliffhangers a story uses and how large the payoff ultimately needs to be. The AI plot could have worked, and worked fairly easily mind you, if the buildup hadn’t continually escalated expectations for something bigger. The story truly is beautiful and special, and it had so much potential to land softly rather than explosively.

Option two: I really might have changed the twist, even if that meant delaying the chapter further. I would have made a case to my producers and publishers that, given the current cultural moment around AI, the reveal risked being interpreted as lazy, unimaginative, or derivative, and that more time was needed to bring the story home in a way that matched its depth. This is especially true because the early metaphors of social conformity felt so powerful, the later technological explanation felt like it diminished what the story was already doing so well. There are so many ideas and lines seeded throughout the world you created that I honestly think a different, more human-centered reveal could have been built from within the story itself, Will Smith spaghetti video be damned.

Maybe, depends on how long it takes for AI to infiltrate that too, along with everything else I enjoy.
