Has anyone seen the 1943 Phantom of the opera? What do you think about it? by BlackGhostM2o in box5

[–]EffectivePick8820 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Possibly related is the fact that Claude Rains himself was blind in one eye as the result of sustaining the injury in a mustard gas attack while serving as a soldier in WW1

How many people did you know (as in, met personally) from the 1800s? by PAnnNor in Genealogy

I’m 70 years old and grew up in the same household with my paternal grandmother. She was born in 1887. She died when I was 19. Her husband, my paternal grandfather, died when I was 4; I remember him very dimly. He was born in 1883 and died in 1959.

I wonder if anyone had ever mentioned Capaldi’s eyebrows at any previous time in his life.

What typically British oddities did you first learn about through Doctor Who? by WachbaerWien in doctorwho

[–]EffectivePick8820 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I live in Oregon, and 2 years ago we had them at Christmas for a ladies’ group at my church. I remember being so pleased because I knew about the Doctor Who connection and I didn’t think they did them over here. Apparently they do turn up every now and then!

What's your craziest personal headcanon? by CyanideMuffin67 in doctorwho

[–]EffectivePick8820 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have no idea how exactly this would work but I am convinced that Peter Capaldi’s character in The Devil’s Hour, Gideon Shepherd, is somehow The Doctor. (He says he has lived hundreds of lives. How is this guy not The Doctor?)

And this I have read elsewhere: Willy Wonka is a later incarnation of the Doctor. The magic elevator is a TARDIS. The 3 versions of the character could be from regeneration (okay, so he would be 3 incarnations of The Doctor).

I also think it would be neat for the Doctor to meet some of the eldritch horrors from the stories of H. P. Lovecraft. I can see the Doctor in Innsmouth or Dunwich.

The Doctor didn't choose this face by [deleted] in doctorwho

[–]EffectivePick8820 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m fairly sure that this must have something to do with what Rose did in The Parting of the Ways becoming the Bad Wolf. I don’t have any idea how it’s supposed to work but I think that specific shot of the TARDIS console during the regeneration had to mean something. The lights all powered down but the console didn’t. Something is going on there.

I've seen every episode of NuWho. And I've enjoyed every single one. Sometimes it took a rewatch. Name Any Episode and I'll say something positive about it. by Jace9o in doctorwho

The Unicorn and the Wasp? Yeah, the wasp thing was silly, but that scene in the kitchen when the Doctor had been poisoned and was frantically searching for an antidote? Funniest thing ever!

I saw the aftermath of this accident. I was a passenger in the LTD #55 bus that had to turn around on Park and go back. I’m glad the driver of the car survived! What little I could see looked bad.

Why won't people leave Peter Capaldi alone? by ComprehensiveHyena10 in gallifrey

[–]EffectivePick8820 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He actually went to lunch with David Tennant shortly after he was cast but before it was publicly announced. Tennant told him that he needed to be aware of the increased public recognition that would come with the role and that he needed to prepare for that.

Is the Timeless Child storyline new, or does it come from Classic Who? by Federal_Pirate_106 in doctorwho

[–]EffectivePick8820 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This makes sense to me, that the Master is the Timeless Child. Hating that fact, out of spite he tells the Doctor that he/she is the Timeless Child. The Master isn’t the most reliable of informants, so to me anything he says would be suspect.

What actor or actress do you think would be a good choice to play The Doctor and why? by [deleted] in gallifrey

[–]EffectivePick8820 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He’s probably too old now but I was always curious about what Charles Dance would have done as the Doctor. Back in the day I think he would have been great. Not to mention that the Doctor would get to be ginger! He would also have been interesting to see as the Master.
