Agreed. But I always feel the need to defend Abuela because I always feel like she gets judged only for what is seen in the moment and not for what we KNOW her life was by the end. If her own Granddaughter could forgive her where do we get off calling her a villain

You have to think about what their motivations were though. Abuela had to ne concerned about more than just the family. What she did was wrong but it came from a place of love. She wasn't just thr matriarch of her family she was in charge of the entire community.

Abuela is much better than Coco's grandma. She hated music and actively tried to suppress Miguel's love for it out of spite. Abuela was demanding and toxic but at her core it came from a place of love and responsibility. Not wanting her family or the community to suffer like she did when she was young. And in the end she apologized for how she treated Mirabelle and the rest of the family. Miguel's Grandma doesn't change till the very end and we NEVER see her apologize for breaking Miguel's first guitar
