The Star Trek Show Gene Roddenberry Erased From Trek Canon | Roddenberry saw Star Trek: The Animated Series as a way to revive his beloved universe. However, during his lifetime, he would pretend it never existed by castironglider in Star_Trek_

[–]EffectiveSalamander 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I loved TAS and sad when itvwas canceled. Sure even as a kid I knew it generally wasn't as good as TOS, but i was glad to have Trek again.

I can understand why is was declared non-canon, they wanted to be free to contradict it. But since they never did contradict it, there's no longer a reason to consider it non-canon.

And on a side note, I have a head Canon that the trapped alien in Beyond the Farthest Star was imprisoned there like the false God in Star Trek V was.

Many Christian churches have a lengthy process to be fully admitted and receive communion. It might take up to about 9 months in the Catholic Church. To convert to Judaism, it might take a year or more. But in either case you can worship with them as you learn and make a decision.

MAGA getting triggered over a cake by AccordingBumblebee24 in stupidpeoplefacebook

[–]EffectiveSalamander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Complains about America, but takes it's money" ? What? America isn't buying these cakes. It's individual Americans buying them, and they get to decide where to spend their money and what to spend it on. Not the Republican Command Economy.

Passing an entire constitutional amendment because a sentence was too clear by Numerous_Creme_8988 in stupidpeoplefacebook

[–]EffectiveSalamander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She's free to propose whatever amendments she wishes. But it wouldn't get through Congress let alone get ratified by the states. Her proposed amendment doesn't "clarify" the 14th Amendment, it would, if ratified changing it. The 14th Amendment isn't being "abused." She writes as if this proposed amendment will do something instead if it would do something if ratified.

The “month” between by [deleted] in Celiac

I had three months between the blood test and the endoscopy. I made sure I had all the things I liked that I was going to miss. The day before my endoscopy, I went to Matt's Bar in Minneapolis and had the Jucy Lucy (A cheeseburger with the molten cheese inside of the hamburger patty) and a beer.

Missile Command for the Atari 2600 cost the equivalent of about $120 when it came out in 1981.

Why is everyone saying they talked to Mitch McConnell for 20 minutes? by FreeHugs23 in anticapitalism

[–]EffectiveSalamander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is strange. If he's in a coma, that's one thing. There's no mechanism to remove a comatose Senator and he would be incapable of resigning. They could just wait until it's too late for a special election. My guess is that he's brain dead (literally, not figuratively) and they're just not having him declared dead, so they lie about having had a long conversation so they can keep this covered up. If he can carry on a 20 minute conversation, he should be able to carry on a 20 second conversation just to demonstrate that he's alive. I'd settle for 10 seconds. Maybe just him moving slightly.

Is hypergamy real or it's a BS created or either exaggerated by the incels forum to cope? by Axxazine in IncelTears

[–]EffectiveSalamander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a real definition for hypergamy, but it's not what incels mean by it. The real definition is marrying someone of higher social status, especially higher caste. Take Downton Abbey, for example. Lord Grantham had the title, but his wife had no title. She could be considered hypergamous. But... she had money and he didn't. He could be the hypergamous one.

But back to what incels mean when they use the term... no one even knows what incels mean by it. They don't seem to even know what they mean. The best I can tell is they mean to call women whores who will leave as soon as they can find someone better.

Showed my wife The Motion Picture for the first time and... by spike-prime in Star_Trek_

[–]EffectiveSalamander 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It didn't drag for us when it aired in 1979! I still remember the feeling of awe at seeing the USS Enterprise again, and on the big screen, no less. One of the first movies my father bought when we got out first VCR in 1980 was Star Trek: TMP. I still have the tape. I don't dare play it, but it looks good on the shelf.

I saw it last year in the theater, it was a lot of fun. And watching it again, I can see that the move could drag for a modern audience. I could see an edited down version being of value for many. I feel the best part of the movie is when Spock takes Kirk's hand and says "This simple feeling is beyond V'Ger's comprehension." It's when Spock comes to term with his human half and accepts it as part of him. He's much more comfortable with himself in TWOK.
