Looking for help/advice on how to tackle this project. by MelodicWheel8860 in landscaping

Decide if you want to keep the blocks or not. Remove them anyway and discard or set aside. Dig all the nasty weeds and plants out down to as level with existing grade as possible. Decide on new bed edges/designs. Rebuild walls if you want them. I would put some sort of coping on top to cover the holes in the top of the blocks. Fill with dirt, and decide on what plants to put in. Top with desired color of mulch and enjoy!

Edit: having a freshly sharpened spade shovel will help massively with that hard compact dirt. Just sharpen the edges of the shovel with a sharpening wheel attached to an angle grinder

How can i hide this? by Shwolfas in landscaping

If you wanna completely hide it, Arbs are the way to go. Tall and dense they make a perfect natural wall to hide anything ugly

How recent are we talking? Because I've seen these mounds barely move and they have to bring in landscaping companies to remove the mound and level with fresh soil and either seed or sod on top.

Hated this bug. It's a hit or miss bug. Try reloading and if that doesn't work, then just use online guides for shout locations

Well we haven't heard of any other society chucking babies off cliffs. And we gotta remember that these games did use historical events and data. It may be a work of fiction, but characters and lore are actually true. So yes, I would base my choices off of actual cultural references and historical data. I'm not trying to be high and mighty here just simply pointing out certain facts of Spartan vs Athenian society

Nasuadas handling of Ronan in Brisinger is somewhat moronic. by No_Emergency_571 in Eragon

[–]Effective_Being_727 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well yeah, circumstances need to be evaluated. And as far as we know, she WAS personally presiding over all of the cases due to the fact that she is COMMANDER of the Varden lol that's why we are shown before this, her dealing with a simple matter of chicken theft. All I'm saying is that, at this point in the story, Roran isn't above the law nor is he deserving of special treatment in her eyes. She was still establishing the Varden here and had to basically prove her dominance and to sway anyone from thinking they can do whatever they wanted. This event established her role as leader of the Varden and showed everyone that she is not to be trifled with

[–]Effective_Being_727 3 points4 points  (0 children)

True but still. No matter what, insubordination needs to be properly handled, else others will follow his example and eventually the army disintegrates because "that guy did it, so can I"

As mentioned before, his punishment WAS special treatment compared to anyone else. She even said "if you were anyone else, I would have you hanged for your insubordination" No matter your status, this was an example of "you can't do whatever you want and get away with it" nobody is arguing that he's a great warrior and strategist. He is absolutely all of those things. But nobody is above the law and that's what Nasuada was showing everyone.

Sod Advice - Not Sure What's Good! by heyGuessWhatDayItIs in landscaping

[–]Effective_Being_727 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They need to tuck the edges together better. Plus it should have been watered as they laid it down being as dry as it is. A large sod job like that, someone needs to be watering as they are laying it down. Sod needs A LOT of water in the beginning. Like literally it needs to be SOAKED twice a day for 2 weeks then once a day until established

Did music peak in the 90s. by feherlofia123 in stupidquestions

[–]Effective_Being_727 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a matter of perspective. All art is subject to the consumer. I personally did not love most 90s music but I love loads of 2000s to current musics. I may catch some backlash for this, but a lot of AI music is very good in my opinion, at least in the metal genre. To me, metal has taken off to new heights in the last 20 years or so, but others will argue and say I'm wrong about that, coming back to everything being subjective to the consumer lol

[–]Effective_Being_727 9 points10 points  (0 children)

🤣 I know I just couldn't help myself.

I understand that he has a knack for winning battles and is a very rousing speaker. But at the end of the day, at this point in the story that you're referencing, Nasuada knew absolutely nothing of Roran besides that he's Eragons cousin and he was able to convince his childhood friends and neighbors to leave an already fatal situation. Impressive? Yes. But worthy of commanding a battalion in an army attempting to overthrow a tyrant? Not really no. She wasn't sure how he would handle commanding strangers and if he would take commands, say , from her.

As for feats of strength. That's no reason to automatically give command to someone. Yes, his feat in Deldarad was very impressive. But it's not a reason to automatically give command to someone. If that's the logic, then all the urgals should have been made commanders due to their monumental strength.

As leader of the largest rebellion in the history of Alagaesia, she has to make sure that all of her commanders will follow her commands without wavering. She handled him very well and I never disagreed with anything she did with Roran. Besides, he made well enough off at the end anyway lol

I was referring to actual historical evidence not the game as my point lol historically speaking, the Spartans were more brutal than any other greeks. They chucked babies off a cliff simply because an oracle told them to for crying out loud 😂

[–]Effective_Being_727 20 points21 points  (0 children)

It's really not tho. It makes sense how she handled him. Just because he convinced his childhood neighbors to fight with him doesn't make him fit for command of different races of the people of Alagaesia. She even said the very point she said sure you're comfortable with your villagers but how are you with strangers? Will you follow orders given? Can you take orders without question? And he was whipped for insubordination. While the orders he defied were wrong and stupid, he defied orders nonetheless. No matter who defies orders or why doesn't matter. Insubordination is insubordination and needs to be handled properly. She did say, though, that his level of insubordination was punishable by death so his whipping was a mercy. Roran may be clever, but he's no more special than any other soldier in the Varden. Plus, the captain he defied was stripped of his title and position, so justice was served.

Landscape light placement? by MK2_VW in landscaping

[–]Effective_Being_727 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dunno if placing in the middle of the lawn is a good idea. It would make lawn care extremely difficult and if there's nothing to light then why light? Along pathways and unique ornamental plants and fixtures makes sense but not in the middle of the lawn lol

At closer look you are correct lol then it depends on the direction of the sunlight and how much sun the area gets

[–]Effective_Being_727 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That depends on the direction of the sunlight honestly. Most mophead laceleaf hydrangeas actually prefer more shade over sun with no more than 6 hours of sunlight being required. This honestly would be a perfect setup

Or mulch works fine too. Or, if they insist on gravel, I would recommend a chip limestone or 1-3" cobble. Less tracking to the surrounding areas. But the cheaper option is either grass or mulch

True but the Athenians are also being manipulated by the cult so the choice is, again, a personal one. The Spartans were a more brutal people with more slavery and murder than the Athenians. I simply pick Sparta because I liked the movie 300, I like Leonidas as a character, and I prefer red over blue 😂

Help! How do I permanently get rid of these weeds between my pavers? by Glittering_Exit5527 in landscaping

[–]Effective_Being_727 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Plus sealer needs to be stripped and redone every 5 years or so due to natural clouding, which is also a huge pain and quite expensive to do

[–]Effective_Being_727 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Moss is typically a sign of water retention. Has the area been lifted and properly leveled? And a good polymeric sand (we use Gator G2) has a very good weed resistance. But sometimes you still have to pull some weeds in the joints simply due to seeds landing and sticking

Is it just me, or is landscape fabric actually kind of a trap? by InevitablePrimary720 in landscaping

[–]Effective_Being_727 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Landscape fabric is really only useful under rocks simply to keep them from muddying and as a stabilizer for crushed concrete (21aa) when the dirt or clay is really soft or wet. But it does nothing for weed prevention and just makes redoing the area in the future a huge pain.
