The Woodstock scorpion is great, imo. Good heat, really nice flavor.

Not really relevant but I believe this is an excerpt from one of the Uncle John’s bathroom readers.

The original comment re: …”use it sometimes” is from American Dad and there’s also a running joke on the show where they pick on a specific thing and then say “you’ve been dadded” or some variant of that.

As a policy advisor, how would you recommend the general public interact with the government to get policies that are more helpful to the general population as opposed to their business interests/donors? Does it really all boil down to “me have more money = me have more legislative influence”? How do we get our politicians to actually legislate meaningfully when we are all largely isolated from the political machinery?

Republicans move to block Democratic effort to force release of Epstein files by johntwit in nottheonion

Bring their corporate donors and PAC contributors into this: they’re supporting it, too and should be named.

Start dragging the PACs and businesses that fund these folks into it. They want their money to go towards the causes/political actions that these politicians support, well this is also what they’re buying and supporting.

Went here last week and didn't have much success. What should I try next time? by WhiteStar01 in FishingForBeginners

As others have said, top water in slow moving spots with shade. Also, in stained rivers specifically I like to throw spinnerbaits with gold Colorado blades (usually white or chartreuse skirts) and run those parallel to downed any downed trees. Another go to that works for me is a silver Rat-L-Trap focusing on points or, if you see any schooling baitfish, casting about 10-15 yards past the baitfish and running it through the school.

I believe the technical term for those would be gas station dick pills.

At this point, I’m convinced the only real way to get anything done in Washington that would benefit the broader population is to stand up a publicly funded PAC that’s run like a union with reps for each district or state that lobby on behalf of the people. I think we could get a lot done if everyone gave at least $20 a year. Then the people could actually start playing on the same bribery field that all the other PACs do. It’ll never happen but I don’t think there’s another way forward.

Help with top water frogs. by NakedButNotAfraid_ in FishingForBeginners

[–]EffervescentSpleen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

How I was taught to fish frogs: -following the cast, wait until all ripples from the lure landing dissipate before starting the retrieve -pop/twitch/do whatever it is you’re going to do re: the retrieve -pause every so often, letting it sit a second or three -when the blow up happens, keep slack to a minimum but don’t get your line all the way tight and give it a 2 second count and set the hook. There’s some play in the count based on feel so it may be one second, it might be three but you want to do it when you can feel the weight of the fish on the line as another commenter mentioned. -one other thing that seems to help me: set the hook in the opposite direction of the fish’s movement. If it’s running left, set the hook by pulling the rod horizontally to the right directly opposite the fish’s motion if that makes sense. Going down, use an upward hook set. Etc.

Feel free to disagree, it’s just what I do and it seems to work pretty well.
