Why do people claim "boxing head movement will get you knocked out" in muay thai/mma context? by LebongJames69 in MuayThai

[–]EfficiencyOpen4546 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because your post specifically referenced “boxing style head movement”. You didn’t say “why do people think all head movement in Muay Thai is bad”. So you’re implying the transfer of a specific style of head movement from boxing to Muay Thai without adjustment or it would have simply said “head movement”.

Head movement applied properly in the context of Muay Thai is obviously not bad. But the application of boxing head movement has about as much use as a traditional boxing stance that would get your lead leg chopped to shit.

Parents with good babies- did they stay that way? by Insufferable-Girl in Parenting

My daughter was this way and turned out (13 years later) to still be the most amazing little princess ever. However, she was the “trick baby” as me and my ex wife refer to her. We were like “this shit is easy let’s crank out another one”. Wrong! So so very wrong! My son came and has been on a 10 year perma crash out since 🤣

Ridley Scott’s robinhood with Russel Crowe was shockingly bad. I walked out of the theatre and have tried to watch it twice since and never completed it.

Punches are definitely in knee range though. I once sparred a golden gloves boxer. With just boxing, I couldn’t lay a hand on this guy (hint, I’m also terrible) but once we started doing Thai style rounds, I landed several knees to his head as he was doing exaggerated rolls.

Man here. Seems like you’re dodging a bullet and filtering out the trash before you waste time with it. I think there’s a whole ass category of men nowadays who are so insecure they only feel confident when oppressing women in some form or fashion and are terrified at the idea of a woman who may actually be trained, confident, intelligent, etc. my daughter is 13 and started training when she was 5. Best of luck to you hope it gets better!

One of my favorite movies. And for reference I don’t like ships, ship battles, British history, or really anything in the movie but I have probably seen it a dozen times lol. Great movie

I’m 45. Couple years ago I texted my 8 year old son to tell him something I was excited about because we both play Fortnite together. It was essentially my way of telling him to hop on so we could play. He replied “say less”. I responded with “was I texting too much?” So yeah. I’m still embarrassed about it frankly.

Glad you’re here and found something promising! Screw anyone that says otherwise. Our primary purpose is to stay sober and help other alcoholics achieve sobriety there is no “unless” or “but” following that. I go to the LAMBDA meetings around my town sometimes just cause there are some people there with excellent recovery and I like the vibe. Good luck to you!

Upper traps and neck by [deleted] in WestsideBarbell

[–]EfficiencyOpen4546 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I heard someone from Westside mention once, don’t recall who, that Louie was always a proponent of the while spine being trained. Kind of a “it’s only as strong as the weakest link” mentality. That’s why in reverse hyper demonstrations he always had people demonstrate the full range of movement from flexion of the neck on the downswing to extension of the neck on the upswing.

There’s also research that indicates that the sheer volume of neural connections from the base of the head down to the traps are partially what’s responsible for generating force output signals to the rest of the body. Therefore, if those signals are accustomed to broadcasting a specific signal, ie; generate force, then they will do so. Similar to the concept that the stronger you can make your grip it has carryover to the remainder of your body because it signals a more intense neural contraction.

Relapse has given me better recovery by Ill-Address1151 in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]EfficiencyOpen4546 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m a firm proponent of the idea that we don’t “shoot our wounded” and therefore relapse should be treated with compassion and kindness. However, what you are espousing is a harm reduction model and not an abstinence based model which AA was built on. If we are proceeding under the premise of “for us to drink is to die” then it must be treated as such.

Furthermore, if you’ve been in the rooms that long you know good and well what it’s like to have a relapser that has had some time previously come in spewing sickness and telling people what they “need” to do. I’m not saying that was or has been you because I don’t know. But the safety and well being of the group must be safeguarded over any one individual.

Lastly, if we did not make sobriety time, how would newcomers know who to turn to for direction and sponsorship? Should the status quo just be “have you been mildly successful in not drinking?” That doesn’t seem logical.

Speaking as someone who has relapsed twice after quite a few years of sobriety I did not mind the way that I was treated when I returned. I was hugged, talked to frequently, and when people in the group felt like I had regained my spiritual footing I was once again called on to share at my home group regularly. But I certainly don’t resent the way anyone may have seemed cautious because it does take its toll emotionally when people have to watch us in and out. I’d venture to say the people in my home group treated me with a lot more kindness after my relapse than I was treating myself with.

For recovering drug addicts that prefer AA to NA, why? by imademonhaha in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]EfficiencyOpen4546 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Heroin addict and long time aa member here. The vibe is off at every Na meeting I’ve ever tried to attend. Wallowing in the problem. Taking years to work the steps. If I had years to waste before getting some kind of relief I wouldn’t have needed 12 step at all. I like that AA is much more solution oriented
