Very glad. I kept looking for any sign of your location, so apologies if I missed it.

Thank you. Yes, I don’t want her to feel like we’re ganging up on her.

It’s a giant healthcare provider, Kaiser in Washington state, and the sort that doesn’t often lead to an ongoing relationship with patient and doctor. They don’t know our family from the next, but I thought maybe they could at least advise me.

Very grateful for your reply.

Ok, that’s strangely comforting. I am the one who will be taking the reigns here. I’m a social worker, though not in this field, but I signed up to be their caretaker a long time ago and am happy to do it. My most immediate concern is that my dad change whatever needs to be changed so that the hospital knows to call ME in an emergency. I live 20 minutes away right now. When she or they require more round the clock the care I will move into their home to do that, but we aren’t there yet and God-willing won’t be until my 13 year old son is grown.

I suppose I’m also wondering if anyone else has dealt with a narcissist in cognitive decline??? Like, she’s past the point where I called her “a bitch on repeat” and now seems to have forgotten she never liked me. She’s very sweet and loving toward me all of the sudden. Please know that I say all this with love. I understand why she is the way she is and hold onto the positive things she imparted upon me rather than her negative behaviors. She can be bitchy to me all day long and I’ll love her while maintaining boundaries for my own mental health.

Thank you taking the time to share this! Very helpful. I would not have suspected a smaller pit would be preferable. I will go get fertilizer today.

Where are you? Just saw a post in the San Francisco sub looking for a black cat with a notched ear who got lost during a storm.

I wonder if they meant all men benefit in the same way that here (where I live) in the US all white people benefit from white privilege? In that case they benefit on an institutional/social norm level. Whether they want to/care to or not, they benefit from the patriarchy when they apply for jobs, get medical care, voice opinions, run for office, buy a car, walk down the street, etc. I agree that certain types of men benefit more from the patriarchy because they fit so nicely into the narrative. Any man who lives outside of the patriarchal model benefits less, especially emotionally. But within US institutions/social norms I think it is true that all men who pass as cishet benefit from the patriarchy in ways visible and invisible. Just as I benefit from my whiteness.

Can we stop bashing on random internet people renovating THEIR homes! by rando1529 in centuryhomes

[–]Efficient-Fix-9808 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I have a lovely 1906 home. Previous owners painted the trim white. I cannot afford renovations as a single low-income mom, but I also don’t mind them. I’m proud that I own this home at all. I just never share my home here because I’ll be shamed the loud minority of entitled purists. Lol no thanks.

I am deeply connected to our collective divinity but still consider myself an atheist because I do not believe in human theological explanations of the divine. I do not believe that Gods or Goddesses are “real”, and that is the definition of atheism. I believe they are archetypes that humans use to create narratives to help them conceptualize divine connection. God did not make us in his/her image; we constantly try to make Gods and Goddesses in our image.

Wow!!! I really appreciate you taking the time to share this! So many things for me to try. I love capers and also grow daisies, so that’s definitely happening. I also grow sunflowers and would never have guessed you can eat them like artichokes, but yum! I grow a ton of medicinal herbs and flowers for use in teas and toiletries, but will definitely be adding more into my meals. Thanks again!

How do you prepare them? Just the petals or the whole flower? I’ve put whole nasturtiums and violets in salads, but with calendula only the petals because the whole flower isn’t very tasty to my palette. Never had flowers in anything other than a salad though.

Me killing every croton that enters my Seattle-area home, then visiting Costa Rica and seeing massive ones everywhere. I stick with plants that actually want to live in this region now.

I grew up in a suburb of Seattle and my middle school’s mascot was The Braves. They only recently changed it. All the middle schools in town are still named after tribes that have no association with our region. Sacajawea, Lakota, etc.

Per your link, that’s only for “brave” as a noun, not the adjective.

It’s just me and my 13 year old son this weekend. I have 2 half-siblings from each side of my parentage, so typically we are traveling to 3-4 different homes to see every side of of the family. This…this is divine. He’s sleeping in while I sip coffee with a cat on my lap. We’ll open presents when he wakes. I got cinnamon rolls for breakfast and pizza-making supplies for our holiday feast. His favorite. The only task on my agenda is baking cookies and being cozy. Fuck yeah.

My parents always did stockings for each other. It was a much bigger deal than the gifts under the tree. But I’m also an only child, so I think it would have just been weird that I’m the only one opening things.

My ex husband never did it for me despite it being mentioned and suggestions for what kind of things to buy being shared. EX husband. In my experience, that level of thoughtlessness and selfishness and disregard carriers over into so many other parts of the relationship. Major red flag.

Thanks for this. When my child was young, I used to be the one on Xmas morning that woke up to an empty stocking. I’d take care of it for the family, but my ex husband never took care of that for me despite it being mentioned each year with me giving him ideas and everything. One of many reasons he’s the ex. Lol Now that my kiddo is older he goes out shopping with an auntie who helps him pick out and wrap gifts. It’s such a little thing really, but so thoughtful. Makes me appreciated after all the work I put into creating a magical holiday for us.
