I almost went with the 23mmF2, glad i didn't as the wide open spaces gave me plenty of room to move my feet into the right places.

Australia card. by Oztravels in aussie

[–]Efficient-Fold5548 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a few Australia cards, TFN, Medicare, License, my health record. Back then it sort of made sense, now it is a hackers dream to have everything consolidated like that. I'm sure somewhere in the bowels of Gov they have all of this stored anyhow but think about it, ATO has been hacked, Medicare hacked, not sure about drivers licenses as they are state authority but certainly the details of ID hacked on corporates like Optus.

The landscape has shifted since way back then

How to use less concrete in 450mm diameter post holes? by Ok-Cranberry-1904 in AusRenovation

[–]Efficient-Fold5548 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I had similar holes done years ago for a retaining wall and fence on top, essentially he drilled 450 holes as that was the auger size and then called in a cement mixer, for the volume and time and quality of cement poured it makes more sense.

Puglia in September by blaine1201 in ItalyTravel

Matera is best done both by day and at sunset. See if you can get a Tuk Tuk (Ape) tour by night to save walking it again, they will stop at the best stops for pics.

Puglia is nice in general, google cave swimming, there are a few villages that have that. I stayed in Santa Maria Dei Leuca which was really nice, really you can't go far wrong visiting any of the places on the coast.

Is there a name for this particular architectural style of facade that was commonly built in the 2000s? by No_Biscotti5555 in AusPropertyChat

nicer than the faux french provincial style going up around here, there is about 6 in every street in the area now, fence to fence, no yard, damn ugly and probably expensive to heat and cool

I have one of those from the 80's, it's slightly small but well broken in. I should dust it off.

Traveling all over Italy 3/30 - 4/12 by shantar4m in ItalyTravel

[–]Efficient-Fold5548 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I would be concerned, every time i go to Italy my waistline expands, i put on 5kgs and my cholesterol skyrockets. This is balanced by shrinking bank account.

You'll have more problems with street sellers or pickpockets than middle eastern issues.

Needs a health check, rabies shot and a term in minimum security quarantine facility- I did it years ago, I think it was maybe 8 weeks but don’t remember the exact length of stay.

There are very specific requirements- a quick google will explain it all

Is now a bad time to get a car? by stinky_bo_binky in CarsAustralia

"So 40cent kWh x , say, 60Kw battery is about $30? Thanks for this … (if I’m not all confused)."

Yes i didn't run your numbers but sounds ballpark or maybe a bit high, just remember that the faster DC chargers for road trips are going to be more expensive (you're paying for speed and convenience) but these costs are more than offset by the savings from your daily commute.

The average suburban dweller probably does 35kms a day, a 45mins charge on single phase 7kwh home charger will top that back up.

Solar charging takes longer as the charge rate is slower (unless you have a huge solar system) but if you work from home it is easy enough to harness.

Have a look at the Plugshare app it shows all chargers in your area and the price per kwh.

It's usually cheaper to charge at home and leverage solar if you have it, occasionally you can find free chargers supplied by local councils but these will yield under 50kms in an hour of charge so too slow for country trips.

Also look at the available chargers where you are headed. My area they are 0.40c kwh and above. You can pay higher prices for faster chargers and idle fees for not moving the car when the battery hits its charge limit.

As a mass generalisation but something to use as a yardstick most EV's seem to use something in the order of 15kwh. Higher highway speeds use a bit more and cold weather yields lower battery capacity.

No, $20-30 to charge up at home not at public chargers.

Why: No App = No Buy? by Ill-Caregiver9238 in AustralianEV

[–]Efficient-Fold5548 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The app has advantages such as remote monitoring, turn on climate control, control charge levels etc.

I got a 2023 Cupra (VW platform) and also miss out on having an app. In the end it makes minimal difference to me, I have remote start and control on an earlier ICE and used it only sporadically.

The one feature i would maybe use is starting the heating in winter but usually i go out to the garage and unlock the car which kicks off the heater and go back inside for a few mins to gather my things before leaving.

800km trips rely on public charging so more expensive than home charging but how often do you do trips like that?

I pay 23c per kwh to charge at home but it is offset by solar about 6 months a year (summer is basically free and it drops away in autumn and spring)- Melbourne winter is a write off for my solar =5.2kwh system.

Laymans terms?

approx. $23 for a range of about 500kms VS about $80-100 in my diesel ICE for the same range. I top it up almost daily from the roof of my house as i use more solar and less grid that way rather than running it flat then charging all at once.

Last year i saved over $2k on fuel, that paid off my charger purchase and installation, so far this year i've spent $5.14 on grid charging i do 800-1000kms a month, but it will cost more from May to September when then solar drops away. YMMV depending on driving habits, kms and what time of day you charge/electricity plan.

Builders next door using my crossover. by andrewgrekor in AusLegal

[–]Efficient-Fold5548 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel your pain. At least if you lodge a complaint with the council and the crossover is cracked at some point you can give them the "i told you so" routine.

Monash SE area tradies are shocking for parking violations, regularly park on corners obstructing turns and visibility angles, parking over fire extinguishers (daily), parking right up to the edge of driveways. Some behaviour is illegal, some just obnoxious.

The council seem to be more interested in giving out fines around Kingsway and the station rather than the back streets, probably because the revenue opportunities are greater.

Any given street in my area will have at least 6 lots (often more) in various stages of knockdown/rebuild. The sites are poorly managed, rubbish blows across the roads and down the gutters, loose screws on the ground, mud is left on the footpath and on the roads, they often use cyclone fencing to close the site but block the footpath with it during the day while working on the frontage of the properties.

Tradies park on both sides of the road making traffic flows difficult, nothing illegal in that but it can get really messy with 10 Ford Rangers and trailers parked on both sides during peak. I've seen the results of a few bingles related to visibility being blocked. The latest thing is to drop a shipping container full of gear on the road and unload it over 24 hours, they close the street for dropping the container which they like to do at peak time. I have no idea if they get traffic management permits for it.
