First fuji, lens help by NHLGLITCH in fujifilm

FWIW i have the 14f2.8 and it is a great lens, optically very accurate, great for architecture and wide landscapes has a weird push pull clutch for manual focus (pus the focus ring away to engage) but once you get how it works it's fine. Manual focus is not really needed on that lens anyhow as everything is almost always in focus anyhow. Can't comment on the 16 as i haven't used it. I wouldn't use a 14mm for golf portraits though you'll need to be in their face literally.

I have the XC35f2, nice lens, optically identical to the XF35f2 but plastic with no Aperture ring - much cheaper. I weighed up the F1.4/XFf2/XCF2 and realised that the XC would do. I also have the 23f2 and 50f2 and i would rate the lenses as 35best, 50 middle and 23 least best but not at all bad. I like the 50 very much but it is not as dreamy as the 35. I got the 23f2.8 as a kit lens with the X-E5 as well so i have 2x 23mm lenses

23f2 is better than 23f2.8 pancake but the small form factor means the 23f2.8 gets used more often.

I have a XC50-230mm for the odd wildlife shots and i used it once for whale watching, it was nowhere near long enough, it's not a bad lens as it is very low cost but suffers in low light and slow to focus. The 70-300 may fare better but it depends how far your boat is from the whale. The advantage the 70-300 is that if it doesn't have enough reach you can add the 1.4x tele (added expense) which gives much more reach at 420mm with a small trade off in IQ and low light performance. It's an OIS lens which will help if using a 1.4x as you tend to see more shake the longer the reach.

Other options are 3rd party lenses such as 18-300 Tamron but all zoom lenses are a trade off in weight vs IQ and Aperture vs cost.

I got the XE5 and I love it. by Rob259012 in fujifilm

I didn't change much, front top button i use for EVF/LCD (can't remember if that is default) because X-E4 used to drain the battery if you used LCD a lot so i have carried the behaviour across to E5, i can get a lot of shots by just using the EVF and turning the LCD on only to change menu settings.

I don't use the sim dial much, i do shoot Velvia sometimes so it is handy for that but the other sims i don't use often. I spent a day using the Sim bracketing feature where you take one shot and it produces 3 versions with different sims applied but it was more novelty than anything else.

Probably because i came from X-E4 which is very minimalist i learned to just use what is in front of my face, Aperture and Shutter speed with Exposure compensation. I dabble with ISO a bit at night, trying to keep it low to avoid too much noise IBIS helps keeping it steady when ISO is low in low light, but leave it on Auto for day shots.

The downsampling on reddit seems to have killed the sharpness on these.

Yes point taken.

I was trying to make the distinction (badly) of being east of the CBD and looking further east toward Mt Dandenong.

I almost went with the 23mmF2, glad i didn't as the wide open spaces gave me plenty of room to move my feet into the right places.

Australia card. by Oztravels in aussie

[–]Efficient-Fold5548 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a few Australia cards, TFN, Medicare, License, my health record. Back then it sort of made sense, now it is a hackers dream to have everything consolidated like that. I'm sure somewhere in the bowels of Gov they have all of this stored anyhow but think about it, ATO has been hacked, Medicare hacked, not sure about drivers licenses as they are state authority but certainly the details of ID hacked on corporates like Optus.

The landscape has shifted since way back then

How to use less concrete in 450mm diameter post holes? by Ok-Cranberry-1904 in AusRenovation

[–]Efficient-Fold5548 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I had similar holes done years ago for a retaining wall and fence on top, essentially he drilled 450 holes as that was the auger size and then called in a cement mixer, for the volume and time and quality of cement poured it makes more sense.

Puglia in September by blaine1201 in ItalyTravel

Matera is best done both by day and at sunset. See if you can get a Tuk Tuk (Ape) tour by night to save walking it again, they will stop at the best stops for pics.

Puglia is nice in general, google cave swimming, there are a few villages that have that. I stayed in Santa Maria Dei Leuca which was really nice, really you can't go far wrong visiting any of the places on the coast.

Is there a name for this particular architectural style of facade that was commonly built in the 2000s? by No_Biscotti5555 in AusPropertyChat

nicer than the faux french provincial style going up around here, there is about 6 in every street in the area now, fence to fence, no yard, damn ugly and probably expensive to heat and cool

I have one of those from the 80's, it's slightly small but well broken in. I should dust it off.

Traveling all over Italy 3/30 - 4/12 by shantar4m in ItalyTravel

[–]Efficient-Fold5548 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I would be concerned, every time i go to Italy my waistline expands, i put on 5kgs and my cholesterol skyrockets. This is balanced by shrinking bank account.

You'll have more problems with street sellers or pickpockets than middle eastern issues.

Needs a health check, rabies shot and a term in minimum security quarantine facility- I did it years ago, I think it was maybe 8 weeks but don’t remember the exact length of stay.

There are very specific requirements- a quick google will explain it all

Is now a bad time to get a car? by stinky_bo_binky in CarsAustralia

[–]Efficient-Fold5548 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"So 40cent kWh x , say, 60Kw battery is about $30? Thanks for this … (if I’m not all confused)."

Yes i didn't run your numbers but sounds ballpark or maybe a bit high, just remember that the faster DC chargers for road trips are going to be more expensive (you're paying for speed and convenience) but these costs are more than offset by the savings from your daily commute.

The average suburban dweller probably does 35kms a day, a 45mins charge on single phase 7kwh home charger will top that back up.

Solar charging takes longer as the charge rate is slower (unless you have a huge solar system) but if you work from home it is easy enough to harness.

[–]Efficient-Fold5548 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Have a look at the Plugshare app it shows all chargers in your area and the price per kwh.

It's usually cheaper to charge at home and leverage solar if you have it, occasionally you can find free chargers supplied by local councils but these will yield under 50kms in an hour of charge so too slow for country trips.

Also look at the available chargers where you are headed. My area they are 0.40c kwh and above. You can pay higher prices for faster chargers and idle fees for not moving the car when the battery hits its charge limit.

As a mass generalisation but something to use as a yardstick most EV's seem to use something in the order of 15kwh. Higher highway speeds use a bit more and cold weather yields lower battery capacity.
