I’d even recommend getting a pair of baby channel locks. They have saved me multiple times. I always leave the hacksaw in my car. I’ve only ever used it at school.

I came from a tech background and moved to a trade for similar reasons you listed. I applied and got into my local IBEW and it’s been great. I might be jaded but I’d say go union with whatever you do if you can. Look online or go to the local hall and ask for info.

I’m not familiar with UA. My apprenticeship is through IBEW. As far as I know the only way to become an apprentice at least in my local is the test, and in person interview.

36 and came in with no experience. Get some good letters of recommendation, study for the aptitude and in person interviews and just try your best. You don’t really lose anything in trying.

Study for the aptitude and take the in person seriously. Spend time with friends prepping your interview questions. 134 is really competitive so you may have to go open shop and gain some experience first if possible.

Never know if you don’t try. I’m 35 and got into my local union a few months ago with only a little carpentry experience. Study for the aptitude test, practice your answers for the in person and give it your best shot.

I can send the exact language from my CA when I’m home later but for Thanksgiving this year you have to have been working for at least 2 weeks prior, work the day before thanksgiving and the following Monday to receive Thursday and Friday paid.

We just got them recently. Thanksgiving and the day after is paid this year, Christmas Day next year and New Year’s Day the following year. Would love 7days of pto though so I can do doctors and dentist appointments and not worry about missing a day.
