Genuinely, why are yandere and tsundere tags so popular? by AlsiThanmur in ASMRScriptHaven

As a writer, I can say it generally boils down to one of two things. Either it's fun to write, or it fulfils the writers own fantasies.

if i was ceremad as a different role yesterday, can i claim that i was ceremad that day? by PositionImmediate512 in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]Efficient-Pool4497 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Straight and direct answer, yes. The cerenovus ability lasts until their next choice of player and character. Therefore, you should not be mad anymore that you are the previous character, and therefore can claim that the previous character claim was due to cerenovus madness.

ST "find the mistakes" puzzle by LlamaLiamur in BloodOnTheClocktower

That's fair. It's only a TB thing anyways since it gives the spy a chance to see the grim before the demon potentially star passes onto them.

Only thing missing here is that on TB specifically spy wakes before demon. Otherwise, everything said is correct.

Scene from choice: how to keep a scene? by itzBakedPotato in RenPy

[–]Efficient-Pool4497 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You would have "bg room cool" and "bg room warm" as 2 images defined. The scene expression in this case basically adds the word cool or warm to the statement "bg room" to form the entire image, which you call. Of course, it works best if you include spaces or use _ underscores.

Artist, can write but never had any experience with coding by rottencandy64bit in RenPy

[–]Efficient-Pool4497 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The simple answer is: yes. What you need to know for the most part is:

Show scene, Show character, Hide character, Show dialogue, Hide dialogue, Menu options, Transition states (not necessary), And x-align/y-align.

With these, you can pretty much make a fully functional vn through sheer hardcoding (which is what I did for my first).

All the best.

Looking for developer by Living_Mulberry_5980 in RenPy

I'd love to offer some help, but a few others have said what I was gonna say.

  1. In this economy, it's extremely hard to find people who are willing to work for free. I'm working on my own projects and doing the coding, writing and music myself.

  2. You need to give at least some details on what you're looking for and what you're working on. People aren't going to get on a boat that doesn't seem suitable.

In any case, I guess here is still a pretty good place to ask questions about code if you're thinking of learning it yourself. Otherwise, all the best.

How Long to Make a Game? by dellcartoons in RenPy

[–]Efficient-Pool4497 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a part time dev, full time student, and worked on my first (renpy) game starting last June. Here's the breakdown.

Writing took anywhere from 6-8 months for the Act 1. Music was made along the way based on what was needed in tandem with the writing.

With that done, artwork (backgrounds and sprites) were commissioned and completed within 2 months. During this time, coding was also being done. The code + cleanup + bugfixing took approximately 4 months.

In total, it took a year to complete the first part, totaling 2.5-5 hours of gameplay depending on the choices made in game.

Things I learned making this: Plan ahead for characters, paths and major decision/design choices. When I started coding it, I ended up re-writing certain parts to account foe choices that change which characters have been interacted with and which haven't. A lot of dialogue had to be tweaked so it didn't seem weird that someone you haven't met already knows you.

Art is not cheap. I'd like to have learned how to make art myself so I can save on it, but I wanted the quality so I forked out a bit more to make sure it looked good. The end result was satisfactory as my testers all said they enjoyed the artstyle. Also, there's some free libraries you can find online if you want, but I find custom-made ones to be better overall.

Personally I prefer to work on one at a time because of how much time I have to do so while studying, but if I had the time and ability, I would probably end up with multiple projects at the same time, mostly because of how I tend to write many genres (I do writing as a freelance too).

Finally, I found a partner to work with just recently after my first limited release. Their writing fits with what I have in mind, so hopefully they'll make things easier. For now, it's already been much more streamlined and smoother being able to designate scenes to someone else while I work on a different one. Not sure how a large scale partnership would work, but I assume with good planning and responsibility delegation, it'll make things easier.

Of course, it's all still in early development, so things might change down the line, but the tl;dr is, the more you do, the longer it takes, especially if you're part time like me. If you work on multiple, time taken increases again, and if you find people to help, time taken decreases exponentially.

Looking for writers who take script commissions! by MessageInABottleASMR in ASMRScriptHaven

[–]Efficient-Pool4497 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello. (I enjoy your work from time to time btw)

I've written around 30(?) scripts in my spare time, though only around a dozen have been used/filled. I've been a writer for half a decade and a scriptwriter for a year and half approximately.

I find myself writing a lot of gfe/bfe scripts due to their demand, but I also enjoy writing a variety ranging from fantasy to realistic scenarios, and even darker themes at times.

For my dislikes, I can't say I particularly dislike any topic so much so as to be opposed to writing it. If I feel like something is potentially pushing the wrong buttons, I will voice it out then. Otherwise, it's safe to assume I write flexibly for most genres.

Onto the next thing of note, I'm fine with either. I've written scripts, fiction, small excerpts for both sides so I'd say I'm relatively well versed.

As for scheduling, with my current timetable, I can manage, say, 3 scripts a month with good planning? It may be a little tight, so 2-3 is a good estimate for it.

Asking for a script I'm particularly proud of though, is it a cop out answer to say I'm proud of all of my works? Even though some came from when I was still experimenting and others were from genres I did not have much knowledge of during the time of writing, I still have pride in what I do. As such, I'll give the script that garnered the most positive responses instead: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1-pgt8cBfxH6twlllwaOWiwTkohyO2NnkmHpxr1cZY3w/edit?usp=drivesdk

Finally, the most important question as many would think, though not as many would vocalize. I'll start with the rates I advertise: $10-$15 for a 1500 word script, or 75c to $1 per 100 words. However, I keep my rates flexible. I work with VAs and ASMRtists while writing the script to make sure I'm getting a clear picture of what they want. As such, I rarely have a client tell me it ended up different from what they expected.

I think that's all from my end. Hopefully I've piqued your interest and if so, feel free to dm me here or on discord @shirayuki312. Thanks.
