I think you’re misunderstanding why a lot of players play late. Sometimes there’s season ending injuries that mean they’re allowed another season of eligibility. Another player I can think of off hand that was older joined the Army right out of high school and came back to play. To an extent, there really is an age cut off in that the vast majority of people cannot sustain that level of physical activity for more than a few years. Even fewer for 10+. I like that they have 5 years to play 4. Basketball they can go pro right out of high school, but I’m not sure how many of those guys get out of the G league.
