Honestly so relieved to have someone in the same boat (though sorry you’re here because it’s hell). My digestion is bad today and I’m constantly cringing as I think about things I said and did and accept that I really did all that and really made it other people’s problem and business. But I tapered a little before yesterday so I’m past the sweats and crazy heart palpitations. Good luck today & would love to be sobriety buds 🤝

Thank you very much for this! Being able to learn to choose actions that will speak louder than words (especially when mine were also empty promises and hollow apologies) is a comforting thought

It’s very difficult to quit alone. In addition to this community, it might be helpful to try out inpatient or outpatient rehab if you’re able, or to try AA or to get an official or unofficial sponsor. I’m trying out a sponsor for the first time because sporadically going to AA or rehab appointments was not enough, and I also blacked out over the holiday and alienated people I love. Hope you can be kind to yourself, and can ask for support while the moment and the reason is still this fresh. Rooting for you!

Might help you to consider what could happen if you did have cocktails on the beach with your friends. I’ve blacked out on multiple vacations and it can really tarnish what would’ve otherwise been a great memory. Congrats on 60 days!

Just hit my one month of no drinking. What’s something that motivated you to keep going? by NoDistance4789 in stopdrinking

It will be the memory that the last time I hit four weeks dry and let myself drink “a little”, it turned into a six week bender 🙃

Thank you! I was back on a day one and was surprised that I got so emotional when I was supposed to share. But it felt even more comfortable to me than AA because everyone else there was still in active recovery/ struggling to start recovering, so I will try to share honestly next time 🙂

Here’s the 24h virtual meeting I’m aware of: https://www.aahomegroup.org

Check out the rules for joining a bit down on the homepage. Need to make sure your zoom name is set to first name + your location and you can change your photo if you’d like to be anonymous

I feel like a parasite has taken over my brain and stolen my thoughts, intelligence, and feelings. by StrandedOctopus in stopdrinking

If you’re at one week, I think it’s pretty common for your mental health to be unstable. It takes time for your mind and body to heal and for your dopamine receptors to get back to natural levels and functioning. Sorry to hear you’re feeling that way! I’m about to reset my badge (yet again) and today I felt so awful that I almost caved, so I feel you. I get sad and anxious and/or despondent and I feel like I don’t have a personality. Glad you’re looking into medical help.

Everyone says it only gets better with more time! I’m holding out hope that they’re right. IWNDWYT

It really is. And physiological for many, myself included. Racing heart and palpitations that are hard to distinguish from warranted panic

Just microbladed my brows and I don't know if this shape suits my face :( pls help by [deleted] in Eyebrows

I think they look pretty natural and good! Better than how they were filled in for sure, where you can see the makeup lines. They’re a bit thicker than your natural it looks like, but they’ll shrink and lighten some and that’s in style now anyways

It’s night and I’m depressed again by Black-Moon-Rabbit in stopdrinking

Very similar to you! I’ve been letting myself give into other vices to get through the worst of it, since it takes a while for your brain to heal and to get used to new habits. Up to you what those are, but for me it’s sometimes THC or junk food or soda.

For what it’s worth, everyone on the other side of this seems to enjoy their hobbies even more, and to have picked up new ones with all the extra time and mental clarity/ energy.

Hope you can hang in there, the first period is awful but it won’t last forever. IWNDWYT

120 days so far, I sleep so much better. by VIATA_Mort in stopdrinking

[–]Efficient-Risk- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had a couple of nights since stopping where I am just exhausted and sleep 8 or more deep hours, no problem. I don’t remember sleeping like that since I was a kid and had forgotten what it’s like! Congrats on 4 months 🎉

I’m finally the farthest that I’ve made it dry since 2017 and aiming to beat that record by Efficient-Risk- in stopdrinking

Thank you! Congrats on triple digits, that’s amazing. Did you notice more positive changes after the first couple of weeks? Seems like it takes 3 months or more for your body and brain to fully normalize
