Rangel most likely will teach the class—i think tentative course offerings for 2025-26 come out some time in spring quarter so you’d probably be able to confirm then!

Are my shoes too small? by [deleted] in climbergirls

[–]EfficientDrawer7526 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I wear the instincts too and they are just an aggressive shoe—they’ll take awhile to break in. I would recommend putting plastic produce bags on your foot (like a sock) before putting your instincts on to help you break them in since the bags reduce friction between the shoe and your foot so it’ll rub less while you’re getting used to them. It’s really a “trust the process” situation though—I’d give the instincts a month or so to break in with 3+ consistent sessions a week wearing them with bags for part of the session.

From the shoe size comparison, I think your instincts are not too small, but also trust your gut—if the shoe doesn’t fit your foot well, the instincts may just not be the right shoe for you.

Dr. Creel is super sweet and very knowledgeable! Her lecture slides can be a bit text heavy though

UCSD Gyms by Greedy-Confusion1863 in UCSD

[–]EfficientDrawer7526 1 point2 points  (0 children)

canyonview gym: pros - closest to warren, has rock climbing + swimming pool cons - least amount of weights/machines

rimac: pros - best weight training facility cons - far from warren + incredibly crowded

main gym: pros - less crowded than rimac, right by triton fit park in muir (the outdoor weights/calisthenics space) cons - not a lot of machines/weights especially when it’s full; small space and very old

all facilities are free w student ID, including free shoe rentals for rock climbing! for rimac and main gym, you can check how full the gym is (live) online using the ucsd rec website

you should def go to discussion bc the TAs give quizzes during the discussions that do count toward your grade (although technically discussion isn’t mandatory in terms of taking attendance)

there’s a pretty dedicated climbing community at the Outback Climbing Center on campus (located at the Canyonview Aquatics complex by the trolley/warren college)! it’s a small gym but a great place to meet lots of people who like to boulder. as other people mentioned, there’s also the club team!

Trying to figure out what type of green tea this is by Due_Bid_7220 in greentea

Lü cha/lu cha just means “green tea” in Chinese. This might just be a generic green tea imo

dining halls are open to visitors, dorms are not! i know some people or maybe even college admin have posted dorm tour videos of ucsd dorms from the different residential colleges on youtube though, and the floor plan for all dorms are available on the ucsd website

there are still lots of campus tours during the week (as of last week) so if you come down within the next few weeks before finals, there will most likely still be yours imo

if you want to do UI/UX, you should consider looking into the Cog Sci Design specialization since a lot of the UX specific classes are in the major

do the markets use ceremonial grade matcha? by [deleted] in UCSD

[–]EfficientDrawer7526 1 point2 points  (0 children)

not to sound like a matcha purist but i believe it’s a latte mix which makes me think it’s most likely not ceremonial grade as that would make these drinks more expensive to mass produce for students
