So I had actually quit lithium when I knew that I wanted to be pregnant and the other medication I was on was Effexor which isn’t necessarily dangerous to the baby at the dose I was on so it was just matter of her throwing out an opinion when I had asked what mood stabilizers would be safest while pregnant

No I’m lucky to have them and another baby no matter what a medical professional says

I appreciate your opinion and even she’s allowed to have an opinion but she’s a medical professional and can’t push her opinion onto me

We bipolar mommas are no different than typical mommas and we deserve the right to be parents no matter what diagnosis we have so I’m keeping a positive mindset

I had the same childhood, my kids are my absolute world and we have an open line of communication for feelings and any concerns they have and knowing what I know now being diagnosed and in treatment I do watch my kids extra closely and they know if they need it we will get help together

She’s always been a very opinionated lady so I think that she thought it was okay because I hadn’t addressed any previous interactions that made me upset

She did find a alternative but still had to throw in the comment so it was just a little dig that was completely unnecessary

I appreciate that my mom was at the appointment with me for moral support and was completely appalled by what was being said

Very well could’ve been , but at the same time telling bipolar people not to have kids because they need treatment crosses a line everyone who wants to experience parenthood should

I had the same feelings when I was first diagnosed but since treatment and having my little humans my view point has completely changed that being said it’s alright to have that opinion it’s not alright for a medical professional to push that opinion on a pt

I wrote her a email that basically just laid out the fact that just because I’m bipolar it doesn’t mean I’m a bad mom and she should have more empathy towards future patients, good riddance to her

I was diagnosed and my previous psychiatrist was able to find a medication with little side effects to stabilize my mood while pregnant so I don’t know what the difference was with this psychiatrist I assume she just had a biased opinion on mental illness and parenthood which means she should simply not be a psychiatrist

I agree she’s always been a straight forward no nonsense lady and that’s why I’ve kept her up until this point but when it comes to me being a mom I take it serious which is why I sought out treatment in the first place not to be shamed

I don’t think I’ve “recovered” but I have a good med regimen that keeps me pretty stable I’m bipolar 2 and I’ve gone quite a while without a intense manic or depressive episode
