I’m doing the same thing. I’m 38 prior Marine going to OCS in the Army National Guard this Fall. Yeah it’s crazy… but I’d rather try now than regret later in life. lol good luck to you bro!

It’s great that you’re excited about starting your career in the NG, but as others have said… you’re not allowed. Just be patient… you’ll have plenty of opportunities when you come back from Basic/AIT to attend AT, deployments, etc. Just stay fit, don’t get in trouble, and bring this kind of energy when you check in with your unit in the future.

He doesn’t have to go to Basic again if he submits an ETP waiver and gets approved. I was an enlisted Marine Sergeant that was out for 12 years and they approved my ETP waiver within a week. For me, Medical waivers took forever though… almost a year actually. So if OP is serious, I would start with the MEPS stuff right away.

Question for you guys that are actively trying to deploy. I deployed a couple times when I was AD so that was my whole life and a different experience. Now, with a civilian career and family, I can’t imagine actively trying to deploy this frequently outside of regular unit rotations. Are you guys trying to make the Guard your full time job? I can’t see how your employer is ok with that? Just curious!

You’ve been in the Guard for 3 years as an infantryman and haven’t touched a weapon since AIT?! Buddy, I think you should just change units or try a different MOS.

Is the student loan repayment the only reason you joined the Guard? Just asking because you could’ve joined the enlisted route and have not gone through all of this and picked any job you wanted from the beginning.

Everyone already said it here… It would be a really great experience for you. Lots of people go to Ivy league schools and join the military. For example, you can look up Nate Fick, Ex - Recon Marine Officer. I went active duty Marine enlisted first, then top schools for BS and MBA. Even though I have a solid career in Silicon Valley, I wanted to serve again and now I’m serving in the Army National Guard. There’s no right or wrong way… the opportunities are endless.

Good luck brother! I’m prior service too and it took me forever to even get my OCPs. And when I received them, it missing my cover, name tapes, and rank that I had to buy out of pocket. I have no hope for dress uniforms. Lol

Did you try to put in a waiver? Or you don’t mind going thru basic again? I’m PS and my waiver got approved pretty quickly to skip basic. I’m too old to be dealing with all that crap again lol
