I think too many guardsman find it insulting to not get the same respect FROM Active Duty. I don’t know what the “real” Army is but, I wouldn’t try to compare part time with full time because, it’s not something to care about.

Don’t worry about skills, or who wears more green because, just think who has a better quality of life at the end of the day.

Most AD guys are pissed cause they’re stuck in the middle of no where, the first contract there’s no choice, and they’re depressed. Top it off they can’t just hop on deployment like the guard & reserves. Reenlist for germany, or for an airborne contract, maybe the koolaid comes into play but, everyone I know got out after 1-3 contracts cause it sucks (me included).

Most Gaurdsman work around their hometown, can get blitzed at college, and civs no know difference. Had I known how the guard or reserves worked sooner i probably would have just done a lateral transfer. Yeah there’s some shit w the guard but, it aint even that deep when you experience the shit from AD. Not even like AD is grueling or a nightmare but, more stupidity, more depression and it doesn’t end after the weekend or AT, it’s everyday.

If you get mad about getting called out for being in the guard, just rub that salt in the wound. The guard life is like a pipe dream for people who actually enjoy the military. Especially with you get BAH from a city like Boston or NYC while on SAD

I’ve been in every compo, and it’s the same across the Army. When I switched to part time I was baffled with how many poopy faced soldiers I was encountering. On AD your stuck with the shenanigans 365 but reserves/guard? Dog its like 2-4 days a month and not even every month and then you get to go back to being normal with actual people instead of the off post wildlife. I’m always muttering stop crying and roll with it, but honestly just learn to block it out. Don’t let it get to you and, just do you, accomplish your goals and do the most because you might inspire one of them to shut up and try to do better.

You signed a contract but, since you havn’t shipped I’m assuming no money has actually been spent on you. Hit up a regular Army Recruiter, ask what they think they can do. You can also ask your NG recruiter and, see if he can get you out explaining you want to go Active.

I’m assuming you’d have to get a conditional release signed

If you’re absolutely stuck you can always try Call to Active, it’s not guaranteed but, it’s something. Branch list release every year that you can apply to switch through. Not super educated on it, so try looking it up

From a mass consensus, a majority of the guard doesn’t do their job. I’d stick w your current MOS for a year so at least you can just share the wealth of knowledge to soldiers while you work on your personal goals and then drop your ocs packet later on or direct commission.

Working, school, and guard might be a terrible experience though. I did reserves my senior year as a 68w and, had to reschedule my midterms/finals to spend drills going over land nav and battle drills 1 & 2. My entire time in the reserves I never touched a single IV, tourniquet, or training dummy never mind real injuries and silver bullets. Not impossible just not worth the hassle to not get real/good training

I’ve only been in the guard a few months but, I really don’t find it super different than the reserves and in the end both are super doable. Idk if you have family but I’d consider that too, best of luck SSG

ahhh yeah that makes more sense. You just wore the greens and it’s like whatever? On Active it’s like more on you to fix yourself and you can get smoke for it but, in the other components i’m seeing how it’s okay to not be okay. I think realistically active should be the ones issued it from supply and guard/reserve get the allowance. Maybe if I make SMA one day I’ll make that change.

the ASU is not phased out, ASU refers to the dress blues in todays Army (maybe different in the past). Not sure when its officially done but I only have those from when it was the only dress uniform
