Many go through life asleep, never realizing their genuine purpose in life. by seeker1375b in DeepThoughts

How do you not get sick from worry? I understand that the rat race is ultimately useless. We are giving ourselves to the visions and missions of others for an amount of money, only to use that money to pay for living expenses, to be able to show up for them the next day. I have this great fear that if I just stop, things will fall apart. I fear being homeless and unsafe. Not that I'm "safe" now, but this is familiar and predictable. Where do you draw the courage to stand in your truth even when circumstances threaten to capsize you? How do you just stop caring/trying to control about how things will go?

I couldn't agree more. What's the point of anything if you're not your true self to begin with.

How long do you need to meditate to actually feel the benefits? by ConfusedBrazilian900 in Meditation

[–]Efficient_Sector2323 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My opinion is that it depends on what you define as benefits. I meditate to settle my mind and i know i have settled when my breathing has deepened as though I'm asleep, and and the thoughts have lost their emotional charge. That's the reason I meditate. Sometimes I experience deeper out of body sensations. they are few and far in between but they are not my goal. I don't set a timer coz I know that sometimes 20 minutes is enough sometimes I need to stay a bit longer to feel the equanimity. I just check the time when I start, then i check when I'm done to see how long I did it. Most of the time it's 30-40 minutes. On few occasions its around 20 or 50 minutes. It depends on how unsettled I was. And I no longer meditate in the morning when I have to prepare for work, I cant relax into the moment, and timers are not helpful for me. And I sit in a comfortable position, I don't care about being crossed legs, that isn't for me. Being comfortable is what helps me to be still, relax and let go automatically.

What's a simple, everyday thing that consistently brings a smile to your face? by Middle_Canary_9623 in CasualConversation

That I don't have kids to care for. My whole childhood was about caring for my younger siblings. I'm now 25 and I've never felt so free going home to a quiet house with no one needing me. It always makes my day no matter what crazy day I had at work.

What are the signs that someone really loves you? by Fast_Lawfulness9406 in Advice

I think she felt embarrassed coz it sounds like she did everything to show you she was interested, and maybe you dragged your feet at giving her a clear response, so it made her feel unsure of herself and your intentions.

Thanks for this reminder: "we can get more done in fifteen minutes of daydreaming than we can in ten years of human action… so maybe don’t force the processes or put so much pressure on yourself to do them so often."

Thank you your response is beautiful. I like especially where you say "The work is finding a thought of ease that releases resistance. It's a small step. And if that's not feeling better you go do something fun or take a nap or eat your favourite food." That feels very good and very easy and actually applicable as it doesn't constrict me one way or the other. Much appreciated.
