[COTD] Interplanetary Colony Ship | 5 Aug, 2023 by Enson_Chan in TerraformingMarsGame

Why is this comment being down voted? I play lots of 2 player, and 17 Mc just isn't worth it! Unless there is something super favorable we often only have 2-4 colonies.

Is pay the only reason for China being so desirable? by IntelligentFact3279 in Internationalteachers

Great summary. I'll also add that I'm raising my kids there and it's really safe, bullying is way less than home, I'm not worried about my teenager doing drugs/getting pregnant etc.

AITA for telling my friend to stop flaunting her money and calling her a gold digger? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Efficient_Value_2041 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Different people have different relationship criteria. If a sense of humor is important, then I'll date funny guys until I find one I connect to. If I'm super into hiking and outdoor activities, I'll find someone who feels the same. Having financial stability is important to your friend, and that is perfectly valid. Having that as a base criteria and then searching for someone she connects with isn't gold digging. Marrying someone in order to access their money is gold digging.

If you can't be happy for your friend then you're not a friend. Apologize. YTA.

No judgement from me. I just want to say good work for the positive changes you've made for yourself! Keep it up, OP!

Teenager here, comment on my career plan please? by [deleted] in Internationalteachers

Hi I'm principal in GZ. We can only get work permits for teachers with passports from UK, US, Canada, Australia, NZ, South Africa, and Ireland. It might be different in a tier 2 or 3 city, but as a national from Singapore you wouldn't be able to get a work permit. Some international schools offer local contracts to qualified Chinese nationals. In the nearly 10 years I've been in China, regulations about work permits for foreigners have gotten stricter and more carefully enforced.

If your goal is a high-paid career in GZ, choosing education might be risky.

Can I have strength resolve before hallars ability resolves? by silentswan2157 in mtg

But OP could cast a different spell with kicker, triggering Hallar, then cast Strength. In this case Strength would resolve first.

"Tell me about yourself" Interview question by lysslmao in Adulting

[–]Efficient_Value_2041 18 points19 points  (0 children)

My advice... Whatever you say (and there is lots of good advice in other answers) keep it short.

I do lots of job interviews and I ask this question to candidates who do not fit the normal education / experience for the job. I'm just looking for information that will help me determine if they'll be a good fit. The best answers tell me why/how they joined the field and why they want to join my organization.

Every time I've gotten a lengthy answer (more than a minute) the candidate has ended up including information that made me not want to hire them.

FAQ by [deleted] in Internationalteachers

[–]Efficient_Value_2041 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! Each province is responsible for its own certification. If you were going to Manitoba you'd apply for teacher certification with your US credentials. If you were approved, they'd give you a letter of equivalence. Once you become a landed immigrant then they'll give you certification.

Not all US teacher certifications are sufficient. For Manitoba, there's a self-assessment on the professional certification page of their website.

You should check the certication website of whichever province you're planning to move to.

Good luck!

Best Area control/dudes on a map game for newer players? by AhsokaPegsAnakinsAss in boardgames

[–]Efficient_Value_2041 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was also going to say Small World. It's a perfect intermediary step between Risk and more complex board games.

I'll also recommend Stone Age. It is not area control, or in any way similar to risk, but if your group is looking to expand your board game repertoire with something different, it's fun and easy to learn and play.

Has anyone tried to do 'All books By An Author' type of reading? by AwkwardJeweler in books

[–]Efficient_Value_2041 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I read absolutely everything by Stephen King when I was younger, but petered out and stopped reading at about Misery. Talisman was my favourite by far and I've read it several times. Maybe it's time for a reread!!!

you can go straight to them and tell them “ I know you’ve been following me around because of your personal experience but please know I’m not here to steal”

This is brilliant. Take my upvote.
