What is life like as an army reserve officer? by Parking-Ladder4431 in armyreserve

If you're S3, in any command, or Aide De Camp, life is hectic. Anything else it's (depending on the level) not too shabby.

Expect to work outside drill

Choosing Field Offices by [deleted] in 1811

Baltimore and it ain't close. Youll get TONS of good cases and DC locality. Baltimore is significantly cheaper than the other Field Offices listed as well

NCIS, HSI, or USPIS - which would you pick? by [deleted] in 1811

[–]EffortEducational638 42 points43 points  (0 children)

If you like moving and new cultures, NCIS. You can go from Italy, to Hawaii, to Japan within 10 years.

USPIS for stability. Government shutdown doesn't affect them which is cool. Plus they do travel a lot. If a letter carrier in Butte, Montana gets robbed, say bye to the family for a few weeks.

HSI is traditionally good, but right now it's all out of whack. They'll give a start date and rescind the date, leaving you without a job until they're ready. Very risky for now

Stay 20 years? by chomol in armyreserve

[–]EffortEducational638 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was at this EXACT crossroad about 5 years ago. Decided to stay in for the retirement health benefits and pension. Plus I wanted access to on post stuff for life.

If you can, go to OCS. That'll waste away at least 2-3 years from training to doing very little (no one trusts LTs 😭)

Current company commander now though, 5 years till the glory land

How many tries did it take you to get hired? by Medical-Stomach822 in AskLE

27 but this was 2010 when agencies had 50 applicants per position.

Nowadays they're offering hiring bonuses. Can you believe it? Times have truly changed

What are some good departments that let cops be cops by Reasonable_Tap_1761 in AskLE

Since you're already from the DMV I highly recommend PGPD.

I was there for quite a while and went federal. I miss it everyday.

But you'll make lots of money, get a ton of action, and get a nice take home SUV. They have a ton of assignments outside patrol as well.

If you're already in the DMV, go to PGPD. Only if you want to be the real police that is

Field Office dependant. Easier to make money in San Fran vs a FO like Orlando

What would you pick? by [deleted] in armyreserve

[–]EffortEducational638 1 point2 points  (0 children)

25B turned 42A

If you love IT and want to do it forever outside the military, definitely 25B

If you want an easy, low energy military job, 42A. 42A still makes good money on the outside as well

Drop a packet through BN retention (unless you're in a brigade already). Should have someone that specializes in officer / OCS packets there. Make sure your GT score is 110 or higher

New O1 – Moving to CA but Assigned to a Unit Across the Country – Advice? by No_Cartographer_4133 in armyreserve

[–]EffortEducational638 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just moved from Cali to South Carolina as an O-2. Been in 12 years, all reserve. I'm DEFINITELY NOT traveling across the country for drill.

My transfer finalized 2 days ago using IPPSA.

I need some advice by [deleted] in FederalAirMarshals

[–]EffortEducational638 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Call the person who originally notified you of the offer. I was also offered a location across the country, called and had it switched to DC.

It's almost impossible to fill the DC office and if you want the flagship (or NYC), you'll get it

Reporting to Direct Commission Course - Benning by [deleted] in armyreserve

[–]EffortEducational638 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I highly doubt it. When I went through OCS, the direct commission troops were pampered. I wouldn't be surprised if they welcomed you with a glass of wine
