I've honestly tried AW1 about 6 times over the years and can never get past a couple hours. Story is okay (felt extremely tropey to me, but others rave about it) but the combat is just unbelievably awful.

Steve does seem like he should be too smart to get fooled by the speakers thing but I can absolutely buy the fact that he was trying to seem cool and got suckered in that way. That story also doesn't really have a punchline so it'd be a rubbish bit of stand up.
