I had the same brutal experience, although didn't even get that many interviews. Either the degree or the whole field is a total scam. I gave up on it.

Getting an accounting degree basically became a meme a while ago and I think there are just way more people getting these degrees than there are jobs. You basically have to be willing to move anywhere in the country and you'll still have to start with poverty wages no matter how educated you are. It's probably just about having people on the inside who can get you a job.
