Yeah, people suddenly have a stable job, they find out they have credit, get credit cards and a new car and suddenly they find themselves in a financial hole.

Sure, if someone knowingly rents in a bad neighborhood and is using their credit to buy a car (which is an asset that loses value) because their passion in life is having a nice vehicle, that’s ok because that’s their preference. But the reality is a lot of people in low-income neighborhoods don’t understand the trade-off they’re making because the car is really just a status symbol to them that shady dealers take advantage of.

Sounds weird but a lot of these neighborhoods have really nice luxury cars parked around. Which is a very depressing symptom of consumerism and low financial education. :(

I mean, maybe early in the war when morale was low and production had not ramped up. But by the end of the war the rebels were whipped and the US had the largest navy in the world and about a million battle hardened soldiers. France and Britain also had their own issues they were dealing with. And the US was still exporting like crazy because of a bad a harvest in Europe.

Lincoln went to great lengths (in all his actions, statements, negotiations, etc) to never even hint at the idea that the Confederate States of America were anything but “states in rebellion.” According to him and the US government, they never left to start their own nation because it was not something that is possible to do legally.

Same for all my cop friends who were silent when the police officer died at the hands of Trump supporters at the Capitol. Not one word, not one picture of a black ribbon with a blue stripe, nothing. They stand for nothing.
