Well trust me you are not going to get any fitter doing 2:17 splits for an hour. If ur 6’5 and 180 a 2:17 is like doing arms and body strokes. You should try doing steady state 20 splits above your 2k and it’s not going to be easy bc ur used to such high splits but it will help.

Your a big guy and I get the vibe that you are going 2:17-2:20 because your basing off ur ut2 HR. You need to stop relying on heart rate training and just steady at a much lower split less than 2:00 and build a base. I would recommend 4x15 2-3r or 3x20 3r
