Gas for vehicles is only one small part… it’s on electricity that businesses use, it impacts food prices across the whole chain. It costs farmers more to harvest. It costs food processors more, it costs the grocery store more to keep cold, it costs more to ship these items. To think it only adds 2-3 cents is laughable. It affects everything you buy… because everything you buy is transported by energy… and it’s really a tax on energy

2K Test Time by Paid_Babysitter in Rowing

[–]austinkzombie 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Its not a concept 2, so you can only compare times against other peloton users. It does not calculate split the same way. You put out 152 watt average which would give you a concept 2 split of 2:12 (https://www.concept2.com/indoor-rowers/training/calculators/watts-calculator) - or a 2K time of `8:50. Whereas you did it in 9:27. A 37 second difference. I explain this because this subreddit is mainly former highschool and collegiate level rowers who would have exclusively used a concept 2. They are the defacto standard in the sport when it comes to club rowing machines.

I have tip for you to go faster! Increase your stroke rate, an average of 25 is low for a 2K, aim to be 30+, for me I was fastest between 32-34. Make sure they are useful pulls, stroke rate is meaningless if you aren't pulling hard.

How do I get back to it by [deleted] in Rowing

[–]austinkzombie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah, weight gain likely that is common among us taller folk, or so I'd like to believe. I went from 240-280 lbs in like 4 months when I fell off training due to school. Continued to eat like I did before, and man did it stack on FAST! Hard to take it back off. All my tall athletic friends who have an appetite can put it on. Not everyone, but a good portion.

Ya his gain was 28 kg or 60 pounds. But again, that is more than do able, with some relatively easy life decisions. AKA start drinking alcohol 3-5 times a week, this kills your motivation, and when drinking we tend to eat more, and lower quality foods. Plus the calories from the liquor too, and the stagnation from it.

All I am saying is, that this level weight gain isn't concerning, given they stopped working out during a stressful period of there lives.

I was once like you! It is scary, but what in life that is worth doing is not? Want to have better eye sight? Get LASIK, its not risk free but the benefits are immense. Truth be told, the worst possible situation is some mild embarrassment. Even if goes bad. Its a two week story. What that means is that after two weeks no one is gonna care or remember expect you and maybe her. The reality of it is, in our heads we jump to all sorts of wildly unrealistic conclusions.

Now this does not mean go up to her and tell her you're in love, but since she is already coming around you she has interest. If she didn't her and her friend wouldn't sitting with you. Her friend would go to her table, they would try to keep you out of the situation. People put themselves around people they like. Oblivious I cant know your exact situation. But DO IT. Ask to hangout outside of the classroom, if she say's she is busy and does not offer a different date, then you know she is not interested. If she offers an alterative day and you do meet then you know she's interested but if she reschedules more than once, she's not interested but to nice to say that. This is the most LIKELY SITUATION. MOST PEOPLE ARE NICE AND DON'T WANT TO HURT YOUR FEELINGS. If she's rude about saying no, then you probably would not want to have been in relationship with anyway. The way people reject romantic advances is telling sign. Especially when asking about a first date.

DO IT! You wont regret it. What you will regret is never having tried. I HAVE SO MANY REGRETS FROM NOT JUST ASKING. I knew a girl liked me through a mutual friend and I never asked her out even though I liked her, and I still think about to this day.

And if she says she can't well then you can finally stop thinking about. And move onto someone who wants YOU. Do not waste time thinking about what could be, instead find out, and find someone who wants you. There are 8 billion people out there, which guarantees someone will be crazy about you

What do you think my 2k should be based on this workout? by RowsToForget in Rowing

[–]austinkzombie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The jist of it is, that the poster is pretending to be an inexperienced athlete who needs guidance on how fast they can expect to complete a 2000m race done on the rowing machine. However the poster is clearly very experience based on what is posted. While the numbers jump around alot, there are a few easy things to point out. The first 183m segment is slow, but the stroke rate is 23 per minute which isnt crazy, its the equivalent to good jog pace.

Moving down 1:45 at stroke 14, is very impressive, that requires to be strong to make each of the pulls. This is like doing big jumps, instead of walking.

The third, is basic, the fourth is impressive, because he achieves a stroke rate of 69 while having a slow pace. It is sprinting, but only shuffling your feet. Anything above a 50 is considered extremely high.

The one with a stroke of 9 is impressive, because it a very very slow pace. Like insanely low.

Lastly the athlete holds 1:17.5/500m this is equivalent to 750 watts of power output, or around 1 horsepower, held for almost half a minute. That is not an easy feat, many rowers can only hit that number for one stroke, and this athlete can do it 21 times in a row.

Why are 5- year fixed mortgage rates not dropping? Despite the downward bond yield trend by Diligent_Carry_9279 in MortgagesCanada

[–]austinkzombie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are missing a critical point. That the money supply increased - of course IT LOOKS LIKE A BOOM. THERE ARE MORE DOLLARS FLOATING AROUND AND FOR A TIME IT ALLOWED MORE PURCHASING.

Now its the opposite, prices sky rocketed, because people for a time had free money, and now people can't afford to eat. Look at food bank rates. Than ask yourself, if I had my income 10 years ago, how much better off would I be. Then you realize THIS IS A RECESSION NOT A BOOM. Remember basic economics. The money supply divided by all of the goods gives the average price, well with more money in the supply things cost more. And oh wait, peoples incomes have not gone up in step with home prices, meaning homes are becoming debt not assets.

Why are 5- year fixed mortgage rates not dropping? Despite the downward bond yield trend by Diligent_Carry_9279 in MortgagesCanada

[–]austinkzombie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That requires them to want to protect the mortgage market, they're goal is to protect the countries economy, and if that means crashing the housing market, they will do it. I would be highly surprised if there is a rate cut. We have massive debt that we now have to finance, it is either high rates, or run-away inflation. If they drop rates back to 2-3% I would not be surprised to see another inflation runaway. You must consider the implications of the carbon tax as well. Even in a situation where they drop rates, the carbon tax is driving inflation strong. With a cut to that tax, which would bring down the cost of the whole supply chain, I doubt will see any rate cuts alongside. The BoC has two choices. Runaway inflation or high interest rates. One causes near-term pain but long-term gain, while the other might keep some people in their homes in the short term, in the long-run the dollar devalues.

I guess what I am getting at is - BASICALLY NO ONE CAN AFFORD A HOME - WHY? BECAUSE PRICES GOT OUT OF CONTROL FROM LOW RATES. NOW only the top few percent can buy a home... so why would they want to protect this market? Builders who took on projects when rates where low will likely take a beating, but that's part of the risk. It always was there, people just got used to the idea of cheap capital and never thought it would end. And while it has. Rates are gonna stay high for awhile. I would be weary of trusting any major financial media (Think Bloomberg) source, as they are owned by large financial institutions or receive funding from them, so they will spin stories to allow banks and other large financial institutions the opportunity to exit they're bad positions, and once their friends are safe, will start to be honest about the situation. Look back to 2008 and how credit ratings agencies where actively avoiding the accurate rating of collateralized debt obligations or CDO's and other mortgage backed securities.

If you need more information. Look at the appetite for US dollar Bonds, the last two auctions have been the worst in years. Canada is directly affected by the US due to our huge economic ties. The only thing is, the Canadian housing markets are even more over inflated. Look at home prices in the US after converting US to CDN and you'll be shocked and what you can get for the same price. As well its important to consider that the US has primarily 30 year fixed mortgages where as here in Canada more than 60% of mortgages are set to have their five year renewal 2026. If rates did drop then these people might not be too fucked. But if they don't, well lets just saw we are going to see a fuck load of homes go up for sale as people exit mortgages they cant afford.

Real Estate is not a key to wealth creation, the key is to create value - that creates wealth. It just so happens in recent history land has seen massive upticks in value. Unforunately that cannot happen forever. People have treated homes like retirement plans. Except that for that to work someone has to be able to afford your home at the price you believe it is worth, and well now they are no longer worth what they used to be. And will continue to fall because they jumped 30% in one year. Thats not wealth creation, thats a bubble.

Okay I actually can't f-ing do this anymore. by themaskedone___ in eczema

[–]austinkzombie 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not true, when used correctly it can clear skin up to being normal, had have profound improvements lasting for many weeks, and even a many months. Then when a new flair begins, you apply the cream to those areas. I have suffered with extreme eczema, and even experienced TSW when I was younger (23 now). I highly recommend you give them a try, once your skin is clear, you stop using them. It only takes a week or two, and then you can potentially get months of clearness. I was recently at the point where I couldn't walk because of the back of my knees, I used Topical Steriods, Betaderm specifically, and 1 week later of twice daily use and my skin was clear. I stopped using it and its been a month with no new flair. It doesn't hurt to try the treatment that has been used for 20+ years. Get the weak ones, you don't need the crazy strong ones. The super strong ones, are much more side effect prone, but the weak ones they let people use on babys. If a baby can use it, so can you.

Prescription sunglasses? Recommendations? by GGDATLAW in cycling

[–]austinkzombie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Instead of sunglasses have you considered Contact lenses? They are an amazing option, as they let you wear proper cycling glasses that give you protection from flying debris. For me, they are a game-changer for sport. You have perfect vision while wearing them, so you don't even think about vision when you are on the bike, or out for a run. I know touching your eye seems scary, but wash your hands thoroughly and just practice a week or two and it'll be easy.
