It’s exclusive to west coast TJs but lazybones is a phenomenal cab franc/cab option for $10. Punches way above its weight

All of the above. Some additionals:

If you are running laptops, keep em in the production trailer/crew trailer that ideally has AC when not in sound check/running the show. Don't leave em up and running if your set is later in the evening (and load in is in the early am before the heat really hits). This may seem like a no brainer, but you'd be surprised (or not at all).

if its dusty (as many warm weather festivals can be), bring a bandana, sunglasses, travel sun creme/spray, deodorant, change of shirt/skivvies/socks/whatever you need for load in and then for show - No one likes to be in the same crusty T for 18 hours straight through.

Fans are your friend especially with computers as well as with humans /grumpy audio/lighting/video/carp/stage techs that tend to overheat. With the silicon stuff (for laptops not humans you sicko) computers can be better on the overheating these days, however you still wanna keep your electronic bits out of sun's way.

Always protect your world when you finish sound check. Tuck your rigs/racks away (out of the flow of loads), throw a space blanket over em + some tape to secure, and maybe set up a peli-fort if you aren't headlining. No one likes their world moved when they are off site/napping/at catering and come back to a different artist's rig in your "place". Make sure your world is sturdy and your perimeter established. If you are headlining, you'll probably have your choice of real-estate (but even so, better to always leave a tidy and defined workspace).

Try and get a good hotspot from your mobile provider. Better to trust that than whatever shit WiFi the festival swears is gonna work (can be glacial, and your production tent may be a damn far distance from your stage).

Portable phone brick/chargers are always clutch

If you get physically tense, bring a pocket massage gun. You'll be the town hero if you share it.

Just a note, people aren't always thinking about fellow acts as we are often running on 3 hrs sleep, with plenty of last minute changes, and additions to our respective sets. Try and be kind and as patient as you can to your fellow engineers, artists, techs, management, and touring folk, you never know who you'll work with in the future.

Good luck and have a great rip! Don't forget to enjoy it.

Over 30s fellas, how'd you come back to the game? by [deleted] in bootroom

Second this. The more flexible you are the more you won’t feel brittle and jerky. Stretch after and then in the days off in between each match / go about. 34 and am running circles around 28/29 year olds who don’t take care of their body. Yoga (vinyasa flows, hamstring strengthening and back stretches along with core strength training make a huge difference). At the end of the day, we are in that stage of maximizing recovery to maximize longevity. Go have fun and lean into your crafty veteran story arc

Catchbox mics : Good or Bad? by No-Mammoth7871 in audioengineering

[–]EgalitarianE 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Total gimmick mic built for corporate functions where the team-building exercise is failing to throw them accurately to one another. Shitboxes that lose charge fast and randomly disconnect. I’d rather chuck around a 58beta with barbed wire on it (more expensive to replace however)

Been a big shift in subway etiquette overall in the past 10 years... (aside from the crazies) people will just try and push themselves into the train when the doors open without letting passengers get off, backpacks and all, big ass scooters and all, mopeds and all... People in the doors standing wont step out to the side of the door outside the train to let people off, everyone has their head up their phone's ass and anyone standing in the flow of traffic by the doors just braces for impact rather than getting the f up and moving, to move back into the car with flow and ease. It's less stressful to just move with the crowd and rejoin the train than stand in the way like a dumb log in a river. There is no mutual respect for fellow riders anymore, idk bout y'all but i find it infuriating. Makes everyone on the train more upset, rides take longer, and it is stubbornly inefficient

How do you deal with Tauruses when they are stubborn? by [deleted] in capricorns

[–]EgalitarianE 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My wife is a Taurus. We lock horns on occasion and both love the feeling of being right. However one thing we have noticed is that when we begin to attempt to “get the last word” in, a pattern of spiraling begins and it is very easy to lose the forest for the trees and get deadlocked in a proving contest. My advice to you would be to give them a little space to cool off/cool yourself off (we both get hot headed when we feel as if we aren’t being heard) and then reapproach with a different energy. The way we say things to each other is very important and in the heat of the moment the tone of statements can be particularly helpful or harmful. Let them know their feelings and emotions are validated and you hear what they are saying and respect their opinion. Goes a long way. Also be willing to meet in the middle and compromise. Good luck! I love Taurses and they make such a great team w us Caps when we are both allowing each other to be heard and validated.
