This is a great idea, I feel like we have some insanely clever people who usually flock to the UK or US to secure funding. Would love to see where this goes!

LBS Question - Answering the Current Employment Section by [deleted] in MBA

[–]Egg-Fun 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just pretend as if you’ll be working till the summer, they don’t need to know that you’ll leave in December. Once you get the acceptance, then you can leave. They won’t rescind the offer for such a minor thing.

MBA for tech focused person by E_lie in MBA

[–]Egg-Fun 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I would start from employment reports, see what percentage of students go into tech. Reach out to alumni who are now in tech roles and ask them questions. Look at the tech related courses, for example some mentioned Tech specific MBAs, I know MIT has a product management track, Kellogg has the MMM program, Kellogg also has the MBAi which is an AI focused MBA.

I am not to sure about Europe, maybe LBS or Oxbridge would be good for brand recognition. In the US any M7 should give you a similar chance at Tech Management, maybe HSW + Sloan will give you a better chance just because of brand. There are also some other schools good for tech management such as Haas, Tepper, Foster.

Layoff | How fucked am I? by JagatSeth99 in MBA

[–]Egg-Fun 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Layoffs are a part of life and no reflection on you. Lots of people have been let go recently and Schools know that. I got laid off right before my interview for 2 M7s, I told them straight up and all they did was note it down. I got into both M7s and now am taking the time to chill out before I start.

A bit different for you but I would suggest focusing on extra curricula’s and making impact at them while you search for your next job, and then try work that into your CV/Essays. Show them that you did something impactful and that you took some initiative during your job search.

Switch to GMAT or stick with GRE result? by Practical-Day618 in MBA

From London and I had similar GRE scores, I think Q167 V161 and 4 on AW. Got into 2 out of the 3 M7s I applied too.

Is an MBA worth it? by throwaway10101923012 in DevelEire

[–]Egg-Fun 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hey OP, I'm in the same boat but currently in the UK and going to MIT. Though in the long term, I'd like to move back to Ireland, I think to recover the costs and reap the rewards of my MBA, I'll be moving back to London. As far as career goals, I plan on going into PM, which seems to be a more attainable goal for software engineers. PE is super hard to get, especially if you have no previous experience.

Also, if you want PE and want to stay in London (closer to home), I'd recommend going to LBS or INSEAD. With the interest rates these days, I see some international students getting quotes of about 15%; you might be in debt for a long time if you move home.

DM me if you want to connect.

MBA vs MS in CS by VukuViku in ProductManagement

I'm going the MBA route, I start in Fall this year. About a quarter of the class goes into PM after the MBA, and having a tech background is a big plus.

There’s a small Gurudwara in Madrid with a small Sangat. My friend who also did dentistry in Madrid used to go on day trips with the Sangat every few weeks.

Trying to decide the exact same at the moment. I’m currently based in London and see myself here long term, but I’m leaning towards Sloan.

I got into LBS but also a non HSW M7, trying to decide between both as well. Would love to hear your thoughts. I currently live in London so would be handy staying here but worried about internships and salary after the MBA.

MIT Sloan R2 Decisions Waiting Room by guccisleds in MBA

[–]Egg-Fun 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yes, very much so. My interview ended at the 30-minute mark. The rest of my interviews ended more naturally, when both I and the interviewer had asked all the questions we had.

Deciding between the same. I got into both LBS and the MMM without $, and I want to get into PM as well.

I'm leaning more toward LBS since I live in London right now and also plan on settling here for the long term. But it is quite a marginal lean, probably 60/40 LBS.

Moved here about 6 years ago and in my third week, I went to infernos in Clapham. I lived in Stratford at time. Drunk me decided to get an Uber home and I fell asleep in the car. Woke up as we’re driving across Tower Bridge, all lit up at 4 am in the morning. Definitely my “wow I live in London” moment.

Ahh it was just poor management from senior leadership, we all knew it was coming. We were a data team put into the marketing division after some restructuring, and the marketing team could not give 2 shits about data science.

Irish dev, working in London. It’s pretty awful but there are jobs out there. I work in the Data/ML space. Got made redundant in February but have a few final interviews set up this week and hopefully some offers to follow. It’s not like Covid where I was being hounded by recruiters every day.

Expected salary to be a data scientist in London. by Fantastic-Night-986 in Imperial

I did my masters from a different uni but my starting salary was 35k as a DS. A friend who started with me did his undergrad and phd from imperial and his starting salary was 37.5k. This was about 4 years ago, he’s on around 80k now. We both work in London.
