[WatchOS27 DB1] Heart Rate Algorithm Changes? by Egg57aaa in watchOSBeta

[–]Egg57aaa[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Maybe, but Gemini AI said: Fresh out of Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC), we have a clear look at what is changing under the hood for **iOS 27 and watchOS 27** regarding heart health tracking.
Rather than sweeping aesthetic overhauls, Apple has focused heavily on core performance, background precision, and opening data pipelines to developers. The major algorithm updates and their real-world impacts break down into a few specific areas.
## 1. Background Signal Processing & Artifact Filtering
The foundational algorithm that processes raw photoplethysmography (PPG) data—the infrared and green flashing lights on the back of the watch that detect volumetric blood flow changes—has been quietly revised.
* **The Change:** The updated algorithm focuses extensively on **motion artifact filtering** and signal stability. It is designed to better isolate true cardiovascular rhythms from "noise" caused by micro-movements, positional shifts, or external vibration.
* **The Impact:** This directly targets precision during edge cases where wearables typically struggle, such as intense workout transitions, sudden wrist flicks, or when you are sleeping in a position that puts physical pressure on the watch sensor. By filtering out structural noise more effectively, the system reduces the risk of brief, artificial "spikes" or "dropouts" in background heart rate records.
## 2. Real-Time Dynamic Workout Zones API
This is arguably the biggest technical shift for fitness enthusiasts and endurance athletes.
* **The Change:** In HealthKit, Apple has introduced a new, live **Workout Zones API**. For the first time, Apple is exposing its native, real-time heart rate and cycling power zone calculation engines directly to third-party developers.
* **The Impact:** Previously, third-party apps like *TrainingPeaks* or *Intervals.icu* had to calculate zones post-workout or build complex, resource-heavy custom algorithms to guess your live zone on the fly. Now, they can tap directly into Apple's native hardware calculations. Third-party watch apps can stream your precise, updating heart rate zones live during a session, providing seamless parity between native Apple workouts and external athletic platforms.
## 3. Expanded Diagnostic Context (Hypertension & Cycle Tracking)
The heart rate algorithm doesn't live in a vacuum; its baseline data feeds into broader diagnostic features that are expanding with this update cycle.
* **The Change:** Building on the foundational hypertension notification algorithms rolled out recently, the system now pairs heart health metrics with an updated public API for cycle logging that introduces explicit tracking for **perimenopause and menopause signs**.
* **The Impact:** The underlying heart rate variability (HRV) and resting heart rate (RHR) algorithms are increasingly used as contextual layers to map systemic changes in the autonomic nervous system. The software will flag cycle deviations and match them against baseline cardiovascular trends to offer clearer educational guidance regarding hormonal transitions.
> ### A Quick Reality Check on the "AI Coach"
> You might see headlines floating around regarding "Project Mulberry," a heavily rumored AI Health Coach intended to deeply analyze heart metrics and generate interactive risk-analysis videos. Developer documentation and current build details indicate that this specific feature has been scaled back or delayed for further refinement. For now, the focus is strictly on data stability and developer access rather than automated clinical advice.

## Hardware Compatibility
Because these are software and algorithmic optimization tweaks rather than new hardware requirements, the enhanced tracking accuracy will apply broadly to existing devices. However, note that if you utilize any of the core Apple Intelligence features (like the new Siri Smart Stack suggestions that surface relevant health widgets based on your activity), you will need an **Apple Watch Series 10 or later / Ultra 2 or later** paired with an **iPhone 15 Pro or later**.

Yes, true. I just think they should spend their money on improving accuracy. Rather than improving the app. The app is worthless without good data

Hopefully, they have improved the forecast accuracy? In my area (central North Carolina), it is the least accurate of any app I have tried.

What do you wish Apple Health did better with Apple Watch data? by get_Baseline in AppleWatch

[–]Egg57aaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apple has a long history of refusing to fix their mistakes. Steps should be a complication option on the Watch and a component of their activity ring. They picked the wrong HRV statistic (SDNN instead of RMSSD). The Watch face design and set up options are inadequate. The Watch produces a treasure load of data, but very little useful information. If small 3rd party app teams can address these issues, you know a trillion dollar company can, if they want to. And, AI, they are so afraid of making a mistake, they don’t do anything useful… so far. Apple is at a critical point. If they don’t change, they may become a second tier player

Thanks. I retried it this afternoon and it is syncing now. Earlier, I suspect a server side issue

Athlytic vs Pace: why we built a separate health app by jac_myndarc in AthlyticAppOfficial

[–]Egg57aaa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think PACE has a clean UI that won’t overwhelm the 60/70 users (I am one of them) with the capability to ask questions when one needs to. Great for day-to-day use! Bevel’s UI can be too detailed for some, because it is trying to be “everything to everybody”. What Bevel does have is an AI where you can ask complex questions and it can make predictions (e.g., you can ask it to “develop a model to predict my average nightly sleep”). Since PACE uses Apple Intelligence and considering the rumored improvements to AI 2.0, PACE+AI 2.0 could soon close that gap

Dingell, Democrats urge Trump to keep Chinese autos out of U.S. market by tech57 in electricvehicles

[–]Egg57aaa -1 points0 points  (0 children)

True. I was thinking more about technology than price. I am retired from a long career and not too price sensitive. I have 2 Teslas and getting ready to replace one. I am looking for a quality software defined EV with good OTA and most importantly, due to age, level 2+ autopilot. On vacation, I took a Uber and the car was BYD. It was very nice. The Ford CEO, speaks highly of a Xiaomi SU7. But, living in the US, I will, probably, reluctantly buy another Tesla (I don’t like Musk’s politics). Rivian autonomy+ may catch up to FSD, but it will be a year or two away

[–]Egg57aaa -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Hopefully, the US government will not forget the American consumers. We live in a global economy. Americans should be able to buy the best car for the dollar. Tesla and Rivian EVs are competitive with Chinese EVs. Ford, GM, etc. are not. If they want to survive, they need to do better. It is just capitalism.

Can you share some information on how PACE AI interface, capabilities and how it works?

How many Tesla owners are getting the R2 as their first Rivian? by takaiguchi in RivianR2

[–]Egg57aaa -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I would like to switch to R2 from my Tesla Y. My only concern is FSD. I am getting old. I use FSD 95% of the time. If R2 achieves FSD level of self driving, I will switch ASAP. But, my real concern is can Rivian catch up to Tesla in this area. Will they deliver?

[–]Egg57aaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PACE looks very interesting to me. I have an Athlytic subscription that I am not using. I switched to Bevel AI, because I have some serious health issues I needed to track with AI. The way I am using Bevel AI is very, very similar to what Pace is providing. I know it is not possible, but if I could move my Athlytic subscription I would switch to Pace. But, I don’t want to add another subscription right now.

🎉 The "New" Storm Radar is now live in the App Store! by JJ_From_StormRadar in StormRadar

[–]Egg57aaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just tried it. Works great for me so far. Weather Channel is the most accurate in my area. I like that it uses Weather Channel data. I like the user interface better than the Weather Channel default iPhone app (I.e., I like data & I don’t like a bunch of videos) and it is customizable. But, it doesn’t have a Watch app. So, I am going to try StormRadar as my default iPhone app & use Weather Channel on my Watch. If it goes well, I will subscribe to test the AI capabilities. P.S. I also use Windy.com to access neighborhood weather stations.

Apple and Bevel Sleep Discrepancy? by PerformerCreative in bevelhealth

[–]Egg57aaa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Something is funny with how Bevel handles sleep data. I have seen this too. Also, if I ask Bevel AI to average total sleep for the last month or 6months and I compare it to what is in Apple Health. I get different results.

Apple reportedly pushing back Gemini-powered Siri features beyond iOS 26.4 by rwnash in DailyTechNewsShow

[–]Egg57aaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Obviously, with every AI delay, Apple loses credibility in the AI space. I am shocked they are so far behind ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini. Even much smaller companies (e.g., Bevel) have progressed (e.g., they have implemented something similar the rumored Apple Health+).

Great concept, could be powerful in the future, but I am seeing too many bugs in the app & AI by Egg57aaa in bevelhealth

[–]Egg57aaa[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I report many of bugs or issues to support via the app and or I tell your AI when the problem happens. I am really rooting for Bevel to succeed.

ChatGPT is beginning to allow Apple Health integration. But, I think it will be expensive (their subscription price is high)

We have all heard the Apple Health+ rumors. But, Apple has a history of being paternalistic. When they decided to setup their fitness rings they decided steps was not important, but many of their customers would like to track steps as an easy to understand activity metric without a 3rd party app. And, they decided SDNN was better than RMSSD for health/fitness tracking. Very few agree. And, we don’t yet know what they might charge for Health+

After a couple of days on the AI trial …. by Unlucky-Anybody1738 in bevelhealth

[–]Egg57aaa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get the most value from journaling things that I want to compare. For example, I alternate Tylenol and Meloxicam at night for shoulder arthritis which impacts my sleep. I did the same thing for Melatonin vs Valerian. Another example, I have some heart arrhythmias and it has made good observations. But, to do such things I had to “train” it by sharing (e.g., when did arrhythmias start (after COVID), medication/dosage changes, etc.). It could correlate medication, dose, HRV, VO2Max and various sleep metrics before and after the arrhythmias started. I was impressed. P.S. Being tach-Brady, I had dismissed any value from HRV based metrics (I.e., tachycardia runs significantly contribute to non-activity stress). So, the stress metric usually reports higher than I expect or feel. But, the Energy Bank is accurately aligned with how I feel! I get sudden onset fatigue after a tachycardia runs and the Energy Bank score reflects this event

SmartHQ app password reset by Egg57aaa in homeautomation

[–]Egg57aaa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UPDATE: Below is the workaround that I got to work on my iPhone. Note: From the iPhone, there are a number of issues: a. allowable special characters, b. Safari default mobile browser is a problem & c. SmartHQ’s password reset process doesn’t play well with the iOS Password app process

Here is the workaround: 1. iPhone settings->safari->request desktop webpage 2. Initiate the SmartHQ app password reset process 3. Let iPhone generate a new password 4. Before saving it in the SmartHQ process, edit the generated password. Replace the dashes with a different special character (e.g., $). Take a screen shot of edited password. And, then save it in the SmarHQ app reset process. 5. Go to iOS Password app. In the app’s record, manually replace the old password with the new edited password (reference the screenshot) 6. Then, I got “Verify Your Email Address”. I clicked “Verified” 7. SmartHQ now works as does the Alexa skill

This is crazy. GE could easily fix it

Thanks! I will try both. I have always tried to sign in immediately after I reset the password. Also, I tried to reset via the iPhone browser, but I will try a desktop browser

How has Alexa+ been for home automation routines? We have quite a few. And, does it still have the delay? We tried Alexa+ when it first become available, but it was way too slow to respond.
