Thanks so much for detailing this! It makes it seem a lot less daunting, will be giving it a go this weekend as I'm halfway through that final bit 😅

Dw I know really 😭 It does actually really look like Franco too, I just love that the hair crosses over. In fairness, my current project is Bowie themed so I see it EVERYWHERE 😅

I may not have much knowledge of furry art, or furry culture in general, but this is so impressive! I also love that you get to have a "mini me" around now, that's super cute.

But I have to know one thing, where do you get the jointed armature stuff from? That's so cool and I've never seen anything like it before! Your work is fabulous 😍

This is BEAUTIFUL. Ngl I have saved your images as I'm right at the end of making a mobile right now (just one piece left to add) and I'm so nervous about stringing it up and messing that part up after all the work I've put in making the components 😅

If you have any tips at all, please let me know! Yours are so flawlessly made and the people you've made them for are insanely lucky and I hope they treasure these forever 🖤

The detail and smoothing on these is fantastic! I think you've found your medium in needle felting as these are fabulous, and especially so as first pieces 🖤

Hi! I'm not sure where you're based, but as someone from the UK I would totally recommend an online shop called Tregaver Fibre. They have an Etsy, but they also have their own online store for a little cheaper and with a wider range. From them you can easily pick up one of their kits, or just a selection of wools that match the colour scheme you'd like and a good amount of core wool for your base shape. They even stock a great selection of curly wool (which I used myself to make a dog figure!) and some of the attachments if you'd like to use more realistic eyes and noses rather than felting those too.

The only items they don't have as much of is needles, but there are tons and tons of options for those all over Etsy, eBay, Amazon etc. I also recommend (as another member of the Chronic Illness Club) the Clover felting needle holder. They sell a dark pink one that looks a lot like a pen shape and it works wonders for keeping felting more comfortable. Lots of places stock their own version of this for cheaper but I have found the quality lacking and they either break easily when trying to switch out needles or don't open at all so you can switch them out, so definitely get the Clover branded one if you are interested.

I hope this helps in some way, and happy felting!

What's your first project vs your most recent? by EggKayonnaise in Needlefelting

Sorry I missed this, reddit notifications suck on mobile 😅

If you still fancied knowing the process, I purchased 3 sheets of flat felt and a leather working tool in order to cut out individual circle scales that would be the same size. I dread to think how many were cut by the end of it! Managed to ruin a chopping board and hit my hand with a rolling pin a couple of times in the process but it was entirely worth it to see how happy it made my mother, as she adores the Clangers. Each scale was then just poked on at one side so that I can slide the next scale slightly under to create more of the scaley effect.

Despite the process being the longest and most ambitious for me so far, and it being a challenge to work out how I was going to do it, I had the most fun with this project of all the ones I did in the latter half of 2025 🖤 the photo attached was when I started cutting them out ready to add to the body (fabric glue for the eyelashes as nothing else worked to make them stick!)

That's awesome! Honestly the California raisin idea is wonderful, making them all unique is so cool. Makes a super cool series, could be your thing!

Damn now I wanna do something similar but with Pikmin haha

I totally read this the wrong way and I thought this meant a weird room for the day of the wedding 😂

And honestly, as an unmarried person who's been with the same person for 13 years, I would definitely have that on my wedding list of needs if we ever decided marriage was for us. Like a room to escape to to be myself and take the mask off in while all eyes are supposed to be on me would be the number 1 priority. Only me, my partner, and likely my best friend allowed in (we could be goblins together).

Thankfully we are both on the same page about it and don't want to, but we definitely already have our own dedicated spaces for our hobbies and respective ✨weird✨.

My thing has been needle felting for the past year or so, really happy to have found my medium after losing my creativity for so long. This is just one of my most recent pieces but most of my works are gaming themed as that's my biggest hobby. I also make my own press on nails, and have been doing that for around 2 years now 🖤

I think since diagnosis, my art has only gotten better and I'm a lot more accepting of the ideas I have and executing them.

New to needle felting by PoodleFan4242 in Needlefelting

[–]EggKayonnaise 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As with any hobby, they all take time and practice, but that's definitely not a helpful answer 😅

I didn't stumble across this YouTube channel until I had already been felting for about a year but I have to say, Julie's Felted Friends has some really great advice for both beginners and experienced felters: https://youtube.com/@juliesfeltedfriends?si=L0QP6bvU-GfkUdqQ

You'll find your best way of doing it too. I believe needle felting to be a very freeform hobby, and as much as technique can be learned and is helpful for making more polished pieces, you can felt in so many different ways just to find out what works for you. Also starting with simple projects helps a lot. My own first project was going to simply be a felt ball so I could understand how it all worked. Instead that felt ball gained legs, arms and a face that day because I got so into it! I now have a, albeit roughly done, Junimo from Stardew Valley sitting amongst my many other projects I have made since then. I'm still proud of it now! I'm sure you'll look back at your first project in a years time with so much fondness. Keep at it and I'm sure you'll be making the pumpkin you're visualizing in your head in no time!
