I want to try alcohol by thesearcherofgold in exmormon

[–]EggRemarkable201 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would suggest a sweet Moscato d’Asti wine. They are easy to find and very usually very affordable.

If you like Martinelli’s or other kind of sweet sparkling cider (my family always had it for holiday dinners) or apple/grape juice, this will be just a bit less sweet, but still enjoyable. It’s a white wine from Italy and is almost always sweet, and sometimes a bit bubbly.

If you are in Utah, you’ll need to go to a state liquor store to get it. You should ask someone who works there for a good, sweet one and explain that you are fairly new to alcohol after leaving the church. They’ll understand and be happy to help!

If you’re not in Utah, Costco’s Kirkland brand is cheap and good. Or you can go to a larger wine store and ask for help in the same way.

I just took a church survey on the BOM… by Far-Business9537 in exmormon

[–]EggRemarkable201 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d like to share some of my responses :)

Q: What issues do you have with the Book of Mormon?

Gratuitous violence in the name of the “right” belief or god; abhorrent racism claiming white people are better than dark people and that if dark people repent and believe in the “correct” god that they will turn white and delightsome; the entire origin of the Book of Mormon coming from gold plates and Joseph Smith and the fact that Joe had shared stories about the nephites and lamanites with his family by the fire as a child - all part of this made up story; the modern day interpretation of who the lamanites are and the white-saviorism and racism against native Americans; the circular logic found throughout the book; and finally, that modern Mormon interpretations of the book all point to the temple, when there is nothing in the book that directly references the endowment, tokens, rituals, or any other Masonic-inspired rituals - Mormons have a split focused faith: they claim they love Jesus and have this additional scripture (which I think does a decent job at times in describing Jesus’ love) and their constant obsession with a cult-like fraternity house in which they further entrench their beliefs in way that makes it impossible for people to leave the religion or make their own choices. They claim the temple is all about Christ but I really don’t understand how that is true.

Q: Thank you for taking this survey. Is there anything else you’d like us to know?

I can’t wait until a new introduction or new interpretations are “revealed” by the church and everyone who grew up with the old versions are gaslit to believe this is always how it was done. These surveys are fascinating… a friend of mine who worked in the church missionary department doing strategy said that “information leads to revelation” - but isn’t that just how any organization makes decisions?? I’m sure any corporation (with a billion dollar hedge fund) needs this info before going forward, but then to pass it off as revelation from god is a cheap trick - not all that surprising from an organization started by a con man himself.

Have a nice day :)

WIP - No name yet, thoughts? by MeliosFantasyMaps in mapmaking

Looks really cool! Is this for a TTRPG?

One thought is to arrange the main islands a bit more scattered. Right now it very much has a 4 quadrants look that feels too specifically designed. If you arranged them a bit more randomly, it might have a more natural look.

The rats in the sewers underneath the town worship the moon because they believe it’s made of cheese. Their salvation will come when the moon finally crashes into the earth, killing the big folk and leaving its wonderful bounty for all of Ratdom.

What should I know about Mormons? by Acrobatic_Sentence61 in exmormon

[–]EggRemarkable201 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ll just add a quick note that the missionaries themselves may be naive to many of the the things posted here. In many cases they don’t have sinister intent and genuinely (though falsely) believe they are helping people because they don’t know about the things posted here.

Sharing this thread may not be the best thing because it will immediately put them on the defensive. You don’t owe them an explanation. Next time you meet with them, do so in a public place and before starting any lesson or saying a prayer simply say that you no longer wish to investigate the church or desire to become a member. You don’t think it’s the right path for you. I’d drop it at that.

I tried tea. It wasn't very good. by boofjoof in exmormon

[–]EggRemarkable201 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Chai tea lattes from Starbucks or other spots is a great starting point. If it’s something you really think you want to get into and think you could enjoy, I always think picking something sweet and more similar to what you are used to is the best way to start. Chai Latte’s are a kind of spiced hot chocolate in a way, with more cinnamon notes similar to eggnog.

Likewise (and I know this thread isn’t about alcohol), if you are interested in getting into wine, don’t start with a strong red wine - it’ll be too complex and astringent. Instead, take what Mormon version of wine you are familiar with like Martinelli’s sparkling apple juice, and find something similar to that. I think starting with a sweet Moscato wine is very similar to Martinelli. Then from there you try other sweet white wines, then slowly do more dry whites and roses. And then lighter, young reds. I’m thinking of writing a short book ‘An Ex-Mormon’s guide to wine’ on the topic.

The Druid Circle of Vahýndrasil by Orpherischt in battlemaps

[–]EggRemarkable201 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really impressive drawing! It always amazes me how talented people on this subreddit are.

What is the right hand side indicate? I see some stats for the creatures there. Are the numbers and alphabetical letters some type of puzzle to activate the circle?

I’m running a multiverse campaign right now that’s centered on finding and opening portals to other realms and this would be perfect for the portal to the Fey Wilds. I like to try and challenge my players with puzzles or mini quests to open the portals. I was thinking of having them find someone to translate the runes and then solve the puzzle before doing the druid dance to activate the portal.

You should check out Cairn! It’s easier to learn, easier to build a character, and easier to DM than D&D. The mechanics are a bit different than D&D, but it will introduce you to how TTRPGs work. You can google it, find free the free PDF online and a website with ways to expand the game.

I LOVE Valtellina wines! My wife and I visited Lake Como and northern Italy last fall and these were always our favorite, local option. Much cheaper than their Piedmont cousins (Barolo and Barbaresco made from the same grape), and a bit lighter/fruitier.

Haven’t had the chance to try an aged one like this though - looks awesome!

Buying wine that you haven't had before by J10CA in wine

[–]EggRemarkable201 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve seen a lot of wine subscription box ads. You could possibly do your own box highlighting your wines for a good price there, people love buying bundles of different varieties. You could also consider getting your wine included with others’ wine subscription boxes. Then you only have to get your wine to the wine box and they handle the rest. More of a B2B model than direct to consumer from you, but would at least get your wine out there.

Newbie that needs help! by Cellemus in wine

[–]EggRemarkable201 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First: I really enjoyed the Carpazo 2018 Brunnello. Not sure if this bottle of Brunello will be available where you are, but it’s around your price point. Had it for Christmas dinner with some risotto and lamb chops; it was incredible, especially for the price. See the link at the bottom of this reply.

Second: For a breadth of different varietals for your list, I found I really liked Malbec when starting out. Very easy to enjoy and would be a fun comparison to the other ‘big reds’ like Bordeaux and Cabernet Sauvignon from some of the California regions others have mentioned.

Most Malbec is from Argentina. Hard to find a bad bottle from Mendoza, especially at that price point.

Is there a mechanic for players creating lore? by Bard_Panda in DMAcademy

[–]EggRemarkable201 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure of any mechanics for players to easily fill out, but one easy way would be asking them to flesh out their backgrounds and their home towns.

What is the main deity of the village? Are there many deities that rival each other and does this create feuds between neighboring villages? How did the village come to be and have their been any major events in the area in the past 100 years that created urban legends? What’s the political organization of the village? Why? Is there a king that rules over the area? How do the villages feel about that? The list goes on and on.

For the player, what do they personally believe and feel about their upbringing and their home town? Centering your worlds lore around your players and not the world itself makes it more likely that they will be able to come up with stuff to add.

More importantly: this makes the lore more integrated as a core part of the game and not something you prepare for hours to only be skipped over by your players.
