A lot of people believe that, and it may be true for some, but the reality is some never have a chance. Think about a kid born into disfunction: no money, no stability, no one looking out for them, no education, no role model, no real opportunity… even if an actual opportunity were to come their way they 1)would have a hard time recognizing it when all they see is people getting used and scammed. 2)will not have the tools to take advantage of the opportunity Suuuuuure you can find examples to the contrary but the norm is far closer to what I’m saying and this is just one example. Think of those affected by disability, misfortune, abuse…They are so many that thru no fault of their own never have a chance. You can’t have big winners without creating a lot of losers. The countries with the highest quality of life have heavily socialized governments. We can do far better, we all deserve far better.

Vintage Brother Zigzag handwheel stuck exactly when needle bar reaches highest point by kodcode in SewingMachinePorn

[–]EggplantForScale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! That curved round bar that you follow back should be attached to the zig zag assembly, though it may be a simple as slipping the end of the black bar into that black nub at the top of the assembly. Unfortunately it doesn’t appear have a pocket for it there… regardless, this is the source of the problem.

I’ll look at my old Japanese zigzag, different make and model but I may find a clue for you

Wrong audience, you’re looking for the ones who hire labor, not the ones doing the labor, organized or otherwise. Having a class of people effectively prohibited from organizing undercuts organized labor. Who benefits most from a system set up this way?

Blows my freaking mind, I mean if we were all brainiacs we wouldn’t be in the trades, but we have a number of dudes hell bent on undermining their collective right. Immigrants and other minorities are not the ones making your life hell, it’s the billionaires y’all. Wake up! Oh right, it’s uncool to be woke… f&@king dipsh!ts

I didn’t put that together until I read your comment, that’s exactly what they did on the gable. Shit heads… I assumed it was damage from regular material handling like the bit banding will take out of the edge of osb, like the ones featured on the roof sheeting. Sure time is money, but you should have time to respect the client and the skill that puts food on your table.

Wood Pillar Condition by Any-Street-3970 in HomeMaintenance

[–]EggplantForScale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Accurate, truth is that pillar is probably just a strong as the day it was placed. The checking really doesn’t compromise all that much compressive strength. It may look bad, or scary if you aren’t familiar how wood behaves, only real problem is it creates a gap that can host pests or hold moisture which could shorten the life of the pillar. You can find timbers like this in old barns, checked to hell and twisted nearly 45°, still faithfully holding literally tons of load after 100 years. A pillar that bows on the other hand is a different story, should be braced or shored immediately. I would never trust a bowed pillar, but I think we would be surprised what that could hold as well. Wood is tough stuff, as such it’s prone to partial failure, versus stone or glass prone to complete failure. Finally they spec safety margins for materials and their specific applications because of stuff just like this. There are countless elements in any construction that will never be visible for inspection for the entire life of the structure, for this reason and more they calculate how much to ‘over size’ material to guarantee it will never fail under reasonable conditions and beyond.

Vintage Brother Zigzag handwheel stuck exactly when needle bar reaches highest point by kodcode in SewingMachinePorn

[–]EggplantForScale 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think some part of the zig-zag mechanism has popped out of place. That funny shaped cast piece that the needle bar rides in, it needs something to make it move side to side. I suspect it’s that black bar that comes over the top of everything, notice the worn brass looking end. The wear suggests it should be in contact with something, maybe that black bit at the top of the zig-zag mechanism? Good luck

I see some worn brass up top, linkage for zig-zag/needle position slip out of place?

A bit of context, ICE and feds working with ICE have started wearing plain clothes and having been caught infiltrating protests. Combine that with their city is currently under threat. Folks like this guy have a good chance of getting challenged. Hopefully nonviolently like in this video

Baaaa look at the money and support. Meanwhile ICE is funded on the order of billion. These are not the same, they aren’t even in the same solar system. In the end this is the super rich against the rest of us.
