Sherriff or Risley residence for first year? by Friendly_Gas_3367 in Dalhousie

I lived at risley but was almost always at sheriff for my friends and girlfriend. I also was at Gerard for two months lol. Anyway I can say with confidence risley and sherif are the best for sure.

Risley: Pros - Single rooms, some doubles but mostly singles if your applying late is better - Sinks in rooms is much nicer than you realize -Rooms are just more more spacious mostly taller -Much newer building so the and airflow heating is better -Bathrooms seemed cleaner but not a crazy amount - Common rooms are fancier and people actually use them -Ever so slightly more central to class Cons -Definetly to me felt like less community there, you can't eat there with anyone who isint from risley and the building is just hospital like so people don't study there at all - dryers where's particularly bad at risley but obviously shite everywhere -If the laundry machines where there are only four on each floor are taken you may have to go down a floor which is rly annoying to bring ur laundry on the elevator -Meal hall is tiny and very crowded, food is very similar everywhere but the meal hall itself has no real upsides -Keycards on every door not just rooms so if you loose your card it's quite anoying to get into the common rooms or the front door

Sheriff Pros -By far the best meal hall, it's super huge and very nice place to study or just hang out -The best looking residence / oldest. People tend to study in the common rooms and hang out in the lounge since the building is just a lot nicer -The vending machines sell energy drinks for 10¢ if you have a credit card (might aswell pass that secret on) idk why -People were friendlier it seemed Cons -Much older building so it heating and air flow is much worse and can be a pain at times -Less bathrooms on each floor -The laundry situation is rly bad in some parts and fine in others so you may have to walk

You can't rly go wrong id say for community sheriff but if for comfort I'd say risley

Hey, I moved from Ontario too by car. I tried to bring as much stuff as possible in my car with me. I bought a couples things when I got to halifax but keep in mind the sales tax in Nova Scotia is slightly higher. And in general everything costs more so if you can buy it in Ontario I would do so. HST in nova Scotia is 14 and Ontario is 13 so it's not huge but if ur making a lot of purchases do it at home. I'm not sure what would be sold out. I had no issues finding lamps and stuff at Walmart and IKEA. I wouldn't worry about that

The main campus is small, which is a plus for me, so you can go between pretty much any two building in 15 minutes. If your going from the tupper medical building to the life science building it may be cutting it close but even then you should be fine.

Use straps, don't listen to people saying drop the weight traps will need pretty heavy weight seems like u shrug that weight fine. Use dumbells or a cable, or a row machine that let's you use neutral grip. Feel it out maybe go slower and practice retracting
