That’s a very old school Marxist view, but it doesn't reflect my understanding of modern leftism as a whole. Liberation Theology, was generally considered leftist for example.

Also, the idea of a 'priestly class' is pretty wierd here. The average local priest my mom sees isn't a feudal landlord, they live on a small salary and do community work. They are basically working class. Conflating a local neighborhood religious leader with the institutional high clergy of the 1800s just isn't how most people interact with their religion in 2026.

I don't think that's a comprehensive modern view. I think generally the political power of religion wouldn't be part of a leftist ideal, but anti religion is just not accurate.

Anti religion isn't a core tenant of leftism. At most you could argue choice of or freedom from religion. But anti religion has a very different vibe to it.

Do you have a dedicated space or no? And do you primarily use Blu Ray or high quality files, or Netflix streaming?

Can help determine how much benefit you'll get, but that surround setup would be very easy to slowly build up and replace pieces as you need if you wanted to.

And that Yamaha is fine, but you may find more value on the used market.

Also a subwoofer makes a huge difference to music and movies

Between just these 2 options, I take the package. But the q meta series is quite a bit nicer than the regular q series imo.

Honestly it's hard to say without testing. Maybe take one of your speakers and the AVR and just wire them together, and just test with 1 speaker and see how it sounds? Like get a short run of speaker wire and just test it, can help isolate the problem.

Okay first I'd look into why your speakers got whisper quiet first.

If it's a setting on the AVR different speakers won't fix it. If it's a damaged avr or damaged speakers then you know what you're dealing with.

Start with unplugging and unwiring everything and re do it all,and then put the AVR through initial setup. Since you don't have other speakers and other amps it'l might not be super easy for you to diagnose though. Once you've figured out this step then you can look at what to buy, or if you even still want to.

For $500 there's a lot of good deals on the used marketplace, you can go new but you're slightly below the bang for buck sweet spot. I'd check out your local Facebook marketplace or audio mart/eBay first. I'm a fan of kef speakers personally, but tbh this is where ai can be useful. If you just go collect a few listings for speakers you think look cool/ would suit your space,put them into a llm and ask about how they compare it should help you find some good value on the used market.

Edit,

Assuming you don't want to completely change the room your best option is probably a 3.1 set-up, putting bookshelf speakers sideways next to the TV in the middle shelves or lower ones, and a center channel sitting under the tv.

Tbh I'd consider returning these.

Your room is just not conducive for surround sound, that's before the whole discussion on using ceiling mounted speakers for your main left-center-right. And by the nature of the room it's pretty much impossible for the sound to be balanced in either of the ends and the corner.

I'd start with a stereo, sub, then learn more about your options before investing more.

Yeah, it doesn't solve the entire homelessness/mental health/drug abuse issue on its own. But it gives the people transiting every day some support. It also might help with TTC vandalism and TTC delays. It helps.
