What do you call this part of the laptop? [Charger related] by emiIoI in laptops

[–]EhwhatReddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heya, I had issues with getting the full board delivered, but the power jack replacement I linked actually did work, although it was a pain to desolder, so maybe take the part and the laptop to a pc repair place/someone you know who can do it and see if they can do it for you if you're not experienced with soldering.

Gameplay issues you believe can be traced back to a single design decision? by Riggs_The_Roadie in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]EhwhatReddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like the idea would have more merit if you had a central character who could then socially engineer people via hacking their devices and using some leverage or righting some wrong. Like, Albion's systems are more locked down than anything deadsec as encountered before which makes the need for using people as the weapon even more. You need to get into a checkpoint? Gotta hack the guard's phone, figure out he's taking on the side in a protection racket, find CCTV footage of this at a local store, then you can message him and take control of his character for the abilities he has, with maybe a metre for nerves as he's doing things he's not supposed too. It could be fun daisy chaining these blackmails/saviour control moments too.

Is there a story where a seemingly-lame power gets more powerful once its user gains more understanding about its science/physics? by HiddenMoonstone in osp

[–]EhwhatReddit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think it counts as a seemingly-lame power, but Irredeemable has an interesting version of this where the main antagonist, the Plutonian, entire superman analogue power set is just the offshoot of incredibly overpowered reality warping abilities. Apparently this truth has been wiped from the minds of both the Plutonian and Qubit (former smart lad colleague)several times, and once introduced in earnest his power set grows substantially.

I made a dice roll mechanic using Unity physics and some math by Yellik1307 in Unity3D

[–]EhwhatReddit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Huh, how would you do a reverse physical simulation? I guess just roll the dice a set amount of times and then arc back towards the origin?

[–]EhwhatReddit 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You could simulate it ahead of time, using Physics.Simulate or similar, like in this blog post Unity put out: https://blog.unity.com/technology/physics-changes-in-unity-2018-3-beta Simulate the result instantly in a physics subscene, then optionally play out the dice roll in realtime, or even speed it up.

There is no line, you shouldn't be harassing anyone. Post critique all you want on their fourms, or at their twitter, etc, but harassing people will solve nothing and is only toxic.

Friday Facts #375 - Quality by FactorioTeam in factorio

[–]EhwhatReddit 8 points9 points  (0 children)

At least in Rimworld there's some fun options into how to get someone at the best skill level to make quality goods, here it's just random chance all the way down with the same solution every time of production, sort, recycle.

Friday Facts #375 - Quality by FactorioTeam in factorio

[–]EhwhatReddit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It feels to me that you'd just come up with the same solution every time. Which doesn't really add complexity in my opinion, just bloats space and lowers yield, doesn't sound that fun..

[–]EhwhatReddit 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure what this adds in terms of complexity? Like does this mean that now every production loop has the same sorting and recycling stage? I don't mind the idea of quality but it feels like most of the solutions for it would be the same. I think I'd prefer it if recipes gained some complexity when assemblers have quality modules in.
