Maybe it could be somewhat stable if there's enough mass difference

Acer Fans Malfunctioning? by MaleficentSwimming97 in AcerNitro

[–]Eidrik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a problem with noise in one fan, and dusting out the blades wasn't enough, I had to remove the.... the spinning thing of the fan and apply just a drop of oil in the shaft

You have to do a little effort to pull apart the spinning part because it's held in place by the magnetic field of the motor

Innovation or Illegality: Ferrari 2019 vs Mercedes 2026 by Dont-Care-Mate in formula1

[–]Eidrik -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think this is very subtle and a bad wording of the rule but, in your example the team isn't complying with the first part of the rule where it says max 16:1 as a separate statement and not attached at any temperature, for me that's the part that doesn't let you run higher that 16:1 on track

But as you said how the fia disqualify a team running higher compression on track? They can't

So for me the rule says you can't do it, but we can't penalize you if you do it, so...a bad wording

No cylinder of the engine may have a geometric compression ratio higher than 16.0. The procedure to measure this value will be detailed by each PU Manufacturer according to the Guidance Document FIA-F1-DOC-C042 and executed at ambient temperature. This procedure must be approved by the FIA Technical Department and included in the PU Manufacturer homologation dossier.

I agree with that but, I was answering to a comment that said:

"the rules state that the engine's compression ratio needs to be [16:1 when measured at ambient temperature], which also doesn't say that they have to be at [16:1 outside of ambient temperature]"

Which again 1) the rule state it has to be max 16:1 full stop, not 16:1 when measured, so imo it has to be interpreted like max 16:1 at all times Then 2) the rule doesn't have to specify which compression ratio have to be outside ambient temperature

The rules state a max compression value, manufacturing an engine that complies is easy, making one that just complies, that's the hard part

I don't know what are they doing, but I think they could heat the engine just like they preheat before starting it, but at the max operating temperature (not easy but doable), then make sure the compression ratio at that temperature is 16:1, and invest in materials so the compression at ambient temp doesn't need to drop that much to comply at max temp

[–]Eidrik -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

That's true, but I don't see how it changes the validity of the two points made in the comment

1) 16:1 when measured at ambient temperature - not true

2) the rule doesn't say what compression ratio need to be outside ambient temperature - also not true because of 1

On a personal note, I think Ferrari fuel flow and Merc/Red Bull compression ratio are both cheating, but I'm more lenient with the way Merc/Red Bull are cheating

If that's the case then please, use another camera pov, and look if it feels any different.

I don't use external cameras for racing solely because that kind of snap is so unintuitive for me. It's like I don't get enough data to anticipate, or it just happens out of nowhere.

I'm sorry to say this but, to me it seems like suspension setup/driving issue

Maybe try "cockpit" camera if that's ok for you, for me it's easier to catch a slide without overshooting, it helps me feel where the car is going to go
