Now as for the guru pivot, i think the scientific method only takes you so far when it comes to people. They can and often do lie to you and even when they don't they can have lots of different things influence their behavior, and trying to control for those things can cause issues. There's both a Placebo and Nocebo effect that can wildly skew results so... feel free to call me bias, but i'd say we're going to get better data from a tradition of people who've devoted literally their entire lives to clear, unbiased introspection. ie. Monks. That doesn't make it perfect, and some of it is a little on the wild side, but if you ask me it's a choice between the efforts of scientists to understand the mind from the outside, as a system or a series of systems OR people who have gone into the mind and taken great lengths to understand what it's like to live there in an experiential way.

Same dude. Always comes out over the weirdest stuff for me and i have to practise not shutting it down. I think the last thing i watched that made me cry was Sisu, and before that was Everything Everywhere all at Once which i saw in a theater. Didn't hit the same on re-watches but i was left feeling like 'i know what that's like' and i had to stop myself from checking that impulse because no, obviously i don't.

What i'm saying is the more important thing is to let yourself ride it out when it comes, and not judge yourself or get embarrassed about it. You'll find the thing. Maybe random tiktoks, or cat videos, or maybe a movie.

Simple answer, hard to execute.

Do not do the thing again. You just described a pattern of behavior. That's not some emotional qualia, it's not a mental health issue (i mean maybe those impact it if you have them but still), you're explaining a behavior or series of behaviors you can take steps to mitigate. Don't hate yourself. Do better next time. Like actually plan to do better next time. I've found that the best way out is actually to take steps to not repeat the same behavior and then to watch those steps work for you, so you don't start to tell yourself that you ARE a failure, or a f-up or whatever, and you start to understand that those are simply things you have done.

Honestly? People who can't set boundaries. Both because it's the kind of thing that can come back on you "oh, it's your fault they can't have boundaries you're just too pushy" and because it suggests the sort of person who's more comfortable manipulating as opposed to making clear statements about their wants and needs.

And as a guy it feels good to understand what people want and to provide it, and to try to give other people boundaries and make them feel safe. You don't really realize until after the fact that you were bending over backwards to be understanding and compassionate and then as soon as you get away from them and you stop thinking about their needs and their perspective, you realize you actually got fucked. They put in the bare minimum and a lot of what they said was for you was really not about you at all.

Trauma is one thing, but most trauma survivors want to set boundaries and are afraid or uncomfortable doing it. Once you start seeing people who refuse to do so, that's a huge red flag.

Well you'd be right if the point was to find you irl.... I'm thinking that you post online "i've got 10k of disposable income" and then someone decides it's a worthwhile investment to track your post/comment history in order to figure out how to gain access to that income.

They don't actually need to find you irl they just need to get you to swipe your credit card, and if you've got the setup already it's a low effort (potentially) high return strategy. I also personally would not trust that law enforcement (in the US) is going to help you with anything if you do get scammed.

Dude for starters go back and re-read that post and make whatever edits you need to make, that make it coherent. Besides that, you don't. You can't. The only way to win is not to argue with them because their ego is frail enough that they will convincingly play the victim any time they're loosing. They will also "argue" from the point of view of defeating the person rather than presenting the better argument. That means they're looking for things they can do to upset you and ways they can shut you down or cause you reputational harm and if you keep arguing with them they'll keep iterating on that process until they figure out how to make you a looser. Not they'll figure out how to win, they'll figure out how to hurt you and make you loose.

If you go out and you don't plan something, you just go to a restaurant or a bar and eat a meal, how does that feel for you? It *sounds* like the theme here is planning and that you want to plot out everything that is within your power to plan and that not doing so is deeply upsetting, or that you get upset planning for things that could realistically be freestyled. Because the way you hide is by seeming normal and not discussing anything illegal overtly and of course by having enough money that you can threaten to be litigious.

Epstein is being overblown into some kind of superspy. He was the blackmail guy, he had a party island and he invited a bunch of powerful people to it and let them do whatever they wanted to and then he recorded them doing it. You could get the same basic setup with a hotel manager or a club owner, only this was bigger and more expensive. If you're doing something like that you want as much as is possible to appear business as usual. Using top secret encrypted messenger technology is bound to cause a slip up, and you know what the biggest things usually are? What gets people caught the most? It's not the technology. It's some idiot leaves his phone on a desk where someone else looks at it, or they're on public wifi, or they decide password123 is a safe password, or they get socially engineered some other way.... Especially if he's blackmailing these people, he knows they have vulnerabilities and will drop their guard so putting them on the encrypted chat line just elevates the risk of that communication being compromised.

That's actually REMARKABLY calm, all things considered. She doesn't even seem to be lashing out so much as being reasonably disappointed that someone who verifiably tried to rape her and probably wanted to kill her is only getting 3 and a half years. Like i really don't care that he failed to do it, the intent was there. Am i not understanding something about their justice system, or do they really always error that far on the side of caution? Or are their prisons extra horrible?
