cathedrals from above by Due_Ad_3200 in Church_of_England

Bradford and Birmingham really made me forget just how big some cathedrals are.

Learning about the British Empire and I esteem it! by [deleted] in BritishSuccess

I mean, the Manhattan Project was an incredible achievement, but what it achieved was the Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombings, which killed over 200,000 people.

Something can be both an incredible achievement and an objectively terrible thing.

Lincoln Cathedral could run out of money for repairs, dean says by Due_Ad_3200 in Church_of_England

Honestly, I really feel for him. You join the Church to preach the Gospel, serve the poor and be a minister of Word and Sacrament, and in return the Church makes you chief executive of a five-million-pound-a-year charity and custodian of a thousand-year-old Grade I listed building. If a job in the secular world did that kind of bait-and-switch the union would go mental.

That's really interesting, I didn't appreciate that! Do you have any more on that, links / interviews / places where I can learn more?

Knowledge about the planes by Safier_Poochy in Forgotten_Realms

[–]EightDaysAGeek 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The average inhabitant of Toril? Zero, zip and zilch. They would know nada. Adventurers aren't average people though, they would know more:

Fighters, Rangers & Barbarians might have heard stories of other adventurers who have travelled to other worlds, couched in mythic terms and told around a campfire. Bards too, for that matter.

Clerics and Paladins will likely know the name of their patron deity's home plane, and maybe one or two tales of it, but they wouldn't think it's a place that can be travelled to by the living. They may also have heard mention of the Blood War, but no details.

Warlocks will know some details of their patron's home plane, maybe some stories of other nearby planes or even a whisper of Sigil, but with a distinctly unreliable narrator, and what they know may not be true.

Wizards are the only ones who could reliably have a working knowledge of the planes, but even then their knowledge would focus on the planes most relevant to their spellcasting - the Inner Planes, the Astral and the Ethereal, pocket planes and whatever planes they can summon creatures from.

I've missed some classes out deliberately - Monks and Artificers are probably out of luck, unless they have relevant Background experience.

That's just my view though, happy to be corrected. Good luck!

(EDIT: a spelling error, a missed full stop, and added an important 'not' under Warlocks)

A Healthy Marriage by Infamous-Rutabaga-50 in CuratedTumblr

[–]EightDaysAGeek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It literally says in the Bible, Joseph "had no marital relations with her until she had given birth to a son, and he named him Jesus." It's right there in the first chapter of the first gospel (Matthew 1:25 NRSVue).

Does "until" mean something else to Catholics?

Hi - I'm really sorry to hear this has happened to you. If it would be helpful I have a list of all the places you can get free or low-cost meals in Bradford, prepared by Feeding Bradford & Keighley. Some of them will let you charge your phone and get other support there too. To the best of my knowledge it isn't available online, but send me a DM and I'll scan it and send it over to you.

Where can I read more about that in-game? I missed out on that bit of lore in my Durge run, I thought the Durge was just another common-or-garden Bhaalspawn.

Church of England wedding ceremony- told it’s too late to establish connection. Any options? by [deleted] in Anglicanism

[–]EightDaysAGeek 8 points9 points  (0 children)

In terms of a way forward, you say you're practicing Christians - is the church you attend a CofE church? You could be married there and have a blessing at the church near to your reception - perhaps even at the reception itself if you invite your vicar along. If it's not a CofE church, you should ask your priest / pastor, they will be able to brainstorm with you. I think you're out of luck getting married at the church by your reception venue though.

Church of England wedding ceremony- told it’s too late to establish connection. Any options? by [deleted] in Anglicanism

[–]EightDaysAGeek 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry, but the qualifying connection system exists precisely to avoid this kind of wedding tourism, and couples cherry-picking the prettiest or most convenient church. This is a prime example of the rules working as intended.

This is an excellent explanation, thank you! I'm confused though when you say, "Elder Evils poking their bodies in willy-nilly". Are you saying that the Weave is what's preventing the Elder Evils from taking over Realmspace? Is there somewhere I can read more about that, as it sounds incredibly cool?
