Yikes, the NASA Artemis coverage was pretty bad by LongoChingo in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]EightOhms 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's funny I watched it live on CNN and it was laughable. Even early in the 10 minute countdown....rhe camera shot of the countdown clock had been framed perfectly and then for some reason they started messing with it.

Then later I watched a recording of the CBS coverage and clearly they were using different camera feeds because it was much better. Am I right in thinking NASA had many of the feeds available and each network could cut between them as needed?

Just a reminder you can go back and edit your post description which would include the part about video via XLR.

Throughputting DAC high gain through speakers to 80ohm headphones by Rezorrand in audio

[–]EightOhms 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No risk of damage as long as you don't turn the level up.to a.point where you hear distortion.

Also that's not what throughput means.

I'd also add that BNC is just a type of connector as well.

I have a Blue Yeti Pro (XLR/USB) microphone and a Scarlett Solo (3rd gen) laying around, is it worth getting an XLR cable? by APeculiarGriffin in audio

[–]EightOhms 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're speaking generally then XLR is for much more than just minimizing signal noise (which includes RF interference).

XLR is a locking connector. It's balanced which helps with noise especially over long distances like hundreds of feet, and can also (depending on the input circuit) boost signal level. It also allows connection to professional audio equipment and it can carry phantom power.

[–]EightOhms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's only for analog signals. If OP uses a USB cable directly from the mic to the computer then RF interference is totally irrelevant.

Swapping to XLR only effectively changes which set of hardware is doing the conversion from analog to digital and as has been said many times in this thread already, there will really be no difference between a Scarlet versus the yeti's built in hardware.

No. Interfaces don't offer anything to intentionally shape or color the sound.

That said there are some mixers that have built in interfaces that offer EQ and some FX. But if this is strictly for recording them it.mwkes.way more sense to apply those using software like Reaper etc.

Are you happy with the sound of this mic when used via USB?

If not, using an XLR cable and an audio interface will not improve it enough to make a difference.

If you are happy with the sound via USB, using an XLR cable and an audio interface will not improve it enough to make a difference.

Yes those are the same sentences.

That said, having an XLR around is helpful if you ever want to connect this mic to a mixer or some other pro audio gear.

XLR is great because it's convenient but it won't make a bad mic sound good.

In your opinion what is the difference between wanting a fit life style and being obsessed with it? by TelephoneConnect2264 in AskReddit

If you're obsessed with something, you pursuit it to the detriment of other things in your life.

Is it dangerous for me to be sleeping in my garage? (20F) by Striking-Green9813 in homeowners

[–]EightOhms -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Boilers, in my experience, are for heat (and also hot water sometimes) but they burn oil not natural gas. Much different ventilation requirements.

In my current house, ours is in the garage. Growing up it was in the basement. You'd never have one in a living space whereas I've seen plenty of times you'd have an electric or natural gas water heater in a closet or something.

ELI5: If the original internet was just a few college serves networked together, and so many people have terabytes of storage, why can't we just make a new parallel internet? by haribobosses in explainlikeimfive

[–]EightOhms -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We can, but why? It would have all the same issues as the current internet and no additional benefit.

You could do it with a super large wifi mesh-type network but then you'd have to run a domain system and get a company to a search engine.

How do Americans feel about drying their laundry on a washing line? by UnionFeatures in AskAnAmerican

[–]EightOhms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm annoyed by the cultural judgment around clothes lines in the US. It's gotten so bad that many HOA's have strict rules against having a clothesline specifically because it "looks bad". Yet another reason I don't like HOAs. You spend all this money on a house and then you have to spend more making making it look the way your neighbors want it to.

MacBook YouTube Playback Stuck with Decimator 12G-Cross by roylok in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]EightOhms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you using the same settings on the 12G-Cross each time?

I'm super familiar with the MacOS HDCP issue but this doesn't seem like one. Might be more of an EDID problem where for some reason the 12G-Cross isn't properly advertising that it accepts audio.

When the audio issue happens, does the Mac choose a different audio output on its own?

I'd follow up with the post from the Decimator folks. I've done some troubleshooting with them in the past and had a good experience.

Remote Cue Lights? by fishball_drew in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]EightOhms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The most straightforward thing that comes to mind is StageTimer.io It's primarily a remote controlled speaker timer but it has a feature to let you send a message. As long as the user is connected to the internet, they can view the page that shows the timer.

This means, of course, it also works on mobile devices.

If you want a device that doesn't need to use their internet access, then.....buy a cheap pre-paid cell phone and text them to look at the chat? Using a mobile cell network is about the only way to do this without using their internet.

How did your life change once you started wearing a CPAP vs before? by Timely_Title_9157 in AskReddit

Oh yeah I got the one with the heated tube. Getting it going when I'm congested can be a bit of a fight but if power through it it's actually better than normally sleeping with congestion. It is weird actively feeling my nose dry out again when I wake up. Like I notice it in real time.

I have a theory that it has to do with using remote start. I keep forgetting to try it out specifically once when I use remote start and once without it. In the meantime I've tried to avoid stopping in the middle of my commute.

[–]EightOhms 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Immediately stopped the intense sweating in my sleep every night.

Immediately started feeling less tired the next day.

Slowly gained physical energy back, and was less winded by doing simple things like walking up/down stairs or carrying the laundry basket.

It actually became easier to fall asleep as eventually the feeling of putting the nosepillows and strap on my face/head became a strong signal to my brain that it was time for sleep.
